Magma Bath Bomb

While I well and truly consider myself to be an established traveller, geography was never my strongest subject at school, which is why I tend to learn about the place I'm visiting once I've immersed myself in the local culture. It wasn't until I arrived on the Canary Islands recently that I realised how much of the natural landscape was made up of volcanic rock: coincidental considering that Magma was one of only a handful of bath bombs I had chosen to bring with me on the journey.

Unbeknownst to me, this bath bomb served as the perfect introduction to what was ultimately an amazing two weeks in the scorching sun. Modelled on a volcanic explosion, this bath bomb offers you everything you could ever ask for.

Firstly, the fiery shade of red that makes up most of the bath bomb mimics the heat of the natural phenomenon it has been named after. Sporting 'cracks' across the surface, which appear to be ebbing out a rivers of yellow only serves to emanate this even further. This bath bomb perfectly encompasses the heat and explosiveness of a volcanic eruption in every way.

As if this wasn't enough, the fragrance that accompanies the bomb is equally as fiery. With ginger and mustard powder as the two key components, not to mention the large helping of cinnamon oil underneath this, Magma offers a dry, spicy compilation of notes that give it a warmth perfect for the colder months of the year. There is something delicately sweet about the inclusion of the cinnamon, but the heat behind this component is equally out in full force.

Peppermint oil also works alongside these elements to give Magma a minty note that isn't particularly refreshing, but does elevate the other notes a little and give this bath bomb quite a strong and interesting aroma. Fans who enjoy the scent of Marathon Bubble Bar, and to an extent Fizzy 'O' Therapy Bath Bomb, will appreciate the smell of this. Ironically, the latter bath bomb happens to be my least favourite bath bomb ever, yet I enjoyed Magma a great deal. This is mostly due to what happens when this beauty is placed in the water.

Although you may expect it to fizzy away quickly, Magma happened to be quite a slow fizzer, and instead sent out frothy waves of yellow, red, and later on gold, across the surface of the water. As more and more colour spewed out into the water, the whole tub turned a shade of warming orange, which stayed with me throughout the forty minutes I resided in the tub.

Featuring popping candy as well, this bath bomb crackles and pops away for a good twenty minutes, even when fully dissolved, which only served to make the whole experience a little more magical and interactive. As far as a bath bomb can go, this definitely imitated the motion of a volcano erupting to the best of its ability.

As you can imagine with so many powerful ingredients, the scent of Magma remained prominent in the bath water throughout the whole experience, and I could smell it on my skin and hair for a good while after I had towelled myself down. Furthermore, the strength of the cinnamon and spearmint also helped to ease my respiratory system of the cold I was trying to right off at the time.

My only qualm with this bath bomb was that I didn't find the water particularly moisturising, especially when some of Lush's most recent releases have been super nourishing on my skin. However, everything else about Magma was incredible: from the scent; to how it performed in the bath. While not necessarily a bath bomb to match the hot whether I was experiencing at the time, I would definitely buy this again in the colder months of the year.
