Butterball Liquid Perfume

I'll be honest and say that there was a small level of disappointment from myself when I discovered that this was going to be one of the perfumes this year. I don't think I'm alone in saying that Yummy Mummy Perfume is very much overdue from the company. While I cannot really complain, as I'm one of only a handful of people to have ever experienced Peeping Santa Liquid Perfume, there was still a tiny voice inside, telling me that Yummy Mummy would have been so much better. Grudges aside, a lot of fans of the 'classic' fragrance will no doubt appreciate that they can finally hold their favourite smell in the perfume format, and for this I am glad.

Butterball is easily one of the long-standing fragrances that Lush have ever had. The simple but popular bath bomb has held a place in shops and online for longer than most of the other bath products available to this day. Simple in design and scent, this is a fragrance for people who don't want something overpowering or too complex. Sometimes consumers and companies can get a little carried away with how much they put into their aromas, and the phrase 'less is more' can sometimes ring very true.

From the bottle, this limited edition smells exactly as I was expecting it to. With notes of both musk and ylang ylang, what I could detect with my nose was a powdery sweet smell with a little floral note thrown in for good measure. These two lace around each other like a dance between two swans, and offer something rather comforting and warming for your senses.

On the skin however, the smell begins to transform somewhat, and the sultry elements begin to take shape. While initially you get the same two components as you did before spraying, all of a sudden there is a rich, creamy layer that makes itself known. Although there is nothing in the ingredients list to suggest where this comes from, fans of the bath bomb will know that Butterball contains a very generous helping of cocoa butter. It is this slightly chocolately element that joins the force and grounds the ylang ylang and the musk just slightly.

Given the composition of these three notes, I would say that Butterball Liquid Perfume replicates the bath bomb far more than it does the recent body lotion, or indeed the body conditioner from a couple of years ago. This liquid perfume lacks a stronger, thicker layer of the cocoa butter to fall back on. If we're comparing it to the original fragrance of the bath bomb, this is spot on, and perhaps only differs by the mildly stronger note of vanilla that is present here. However, if you're after something far more chocolately and wholesome, you may be a little discouraged.

In all honesty, I wasn't blown away by this release. Butterball is not one of my favourite scents, and it's not the sort of aroma that I would necessarily choose to wear as a perfume. However, I cannot take away how well it does replicate the original smell, and I need to make that point very clear.

What I will say is that the longevity of Butterball Liquid Perfume is roughly about two hours, although it does last far longer on clothing. As it's rather subtle to begin with, the scent fades quicker than some of Lush's other liquid perfumes. However, I really enjoyed spraying this on my scarf in the mornings before work, and being able to detect subtle notes of the perfume when I was coming home in the evenings.

This is not a perfume I feel like raving about but fans of this aroma will appreciate it a lot. For £19, this is a bargain for sure, despite my personal experience and lack of enthusiasm for this particular scent. Had this been stronger and chocolately, I would have no doubt felt a little more fervently about it, but I love the fact that it has stayed true to the classic Butterball aroma.
