29 High Street Liquid Perfume

I feel rather privileged owning one of these bottles; it's almost as if I own a piece of Lush's Holy Grail. 29 High Street was the original name given to this perfume, back when Lush first revealed it to the world. Many years later, the company decided to change it's title to 'HQ' and re-released the perfume in one of their generic black 'forum special' bottles.

In recent years, Lush have chosen to bring back the old-style glass bottle and offer it to customers who are lucky enough to visit their original store in Poole. Thanks to my favourite site, eBay, I was able to pick up a brand new bottle of this liquid gold, and I've been hooked ever since.

29 High Street is named after the very store that now sells it, and has been designed to supposedly mimic the wonderful aroma of a Lush shop. Although this smell has diminished somewhat over the last few years, I'm sure that most Lush fans will admit that it was the enticing scent of a store that originally hooked them in and has kept them hanging many years later.

What I noticed immediately when looking at the ingredients list of this perfume, is that the main notes are all key elements that you'll find in hundreds of Lush's products. Firstly, there's ylang ylang - a sensual floral ingredient found in most of Lush's products - most notably their Sex Bomb Ballistic; Sandalwood oil gives off a rich woody note that can be found in the wonderful Aqua Mirabilis Body Butter; Jasmine absolute adds another floral element to the mix and is a key scent in Lush's Tender Is The Night Massage BarThen there's the inclusion of both lime and lemon oil - two uplifting ingredients that make Avobath Ballistic so wonderful whilst tonka absolute gives the perfume a sweetness displayed in all of Lush's Vanillary range. Altogether, these ingredients collaborate amazingly well and create a unique, vibrant and wholly special perfume.
In the bottle, it is the tonka and jasmine that first makes it's presence known - offering fans something far more complex than any of the perfumes that Lush currently offer online. Although, once the perfume has been sprayed onto the skin, all of the different ingredients make their presence known.

When applying this perfume, I can detect the slight woodiness of the sandalwood, but it sits comfortably behind the ylang ylang and interlaces itself with the citrus oils so it's not as dominating as it is in Breath of God

If you were worried that this perfume would be too overwhelming or too strange, don't be - it's superb. It's both mature and playful at the same time  - equally sensual and sweet -uplifting without being overzealous. Lush have crafted this product well so that each layer compliments the next and they all sit comfortably together.

29 High Street is a long lasting perfume and will remain on your skin for the whole day. Throughout it's wear, the different layers will make themselves known; constantly changing so that you'll never get bored of the scent. I absolutely love spraying this on myself but have to limit myself because of how precious a bottle of this stuff is. I would definitely buy a few more bottles if the opportunity arose as it's probably one of my all-time favourite fragrances from Lush.

    1. I thought one of the perks of the Poole store was that they always have it stocked. However, I would definitely check with them first. I'd hate to think that I'd send someone down there only for them to be out of stock :)

  2. I'm HOPING my friend who is over visiting the UK picked me up one of these beauties! I've never smelled it but I know I'll love it without a doubt! I wish they offered it through Lush a Kitchen occasionally but I understand that it's a special item just for the Poole store!

    1. Hey lovely - I'm not able to get to the Poole store - it would be a 4 hours journey for me! You could try on eBay or the Verified Lush Exchange and see if anyone has one they'd be willing to sell :)

  4. Hey Jen... Greetings from across the ocean! Love your blog and guiltily read it EVERYDAY :) I was wondering if you have ever bought a bad bottle on eBay and if there is any issues with Lush products being counterfeited?? I have two bottles coming which cost me almost two arms and legs but I don't think I have been this excited about a product before :)

    1. Hey lovely! Thank you so much for the support! Don't feel guilty - just think how guilty I feel having bought all of these products! I have honestly never had any issues with eBay purchases - certainly not when it comes to the shower gels. I really don't think there is much of an issue with counterfeit Lush items so you should be fine! Can I be nosey and find out what shower gels you're receiving?

    2. Hi Jen! I am sorry I never saw your reply! I did end up buying a few bottles of 29 when the kitchen released it about a month ago! I am so in love with the perfume. Shower gels that I have on the way right now are five bottles of ponche :) those are from the kitchen too. I bought four entire slabs of icing on the cake roulade today in the sale. I was lucky enough to have a manager hold them until I could get there. Ponche is for sure my favorite soap right now xo

    2. I was lucky enough to get a bottle of 29 High Street two years ago but my daughter loved it so I gave it to her[not realizing how impossible it would be to get another. I just registered for the trading forum like I saw you suggested to someone else. How does it work?

  7. This seems like a great product, but I don't think I can step away from Fahrenheit by Christian Dior. A long time favorite. I did find an inexpensive way to buy it recently at perfumora.com. Google has been my thrifty fragrance finder for years and now I know where to look. Thanks for this article! I look forward to your next review!
