Hot Toddy Bubble Bar

Lush describe Hot Toddy as 'a winter-warmer with clove, paprika and cinnamon, but also containing generous helpings of fruity orange, lime and lemon peel.' To me this sounds like the perfect selection of scents to accompany oneself during those harsh winter nights - when you just want to curl up and sleep away the rain and snow.

When I first received a selection of these bars with my Lush order, I didn't even have to lift the lid before I could smell the delicious combination of cloves and cinnamon. This is bar that you could leave in the bathroom and know that within a few hours, the scent will have de-fragranced the entire room.

Pre 2015 edition.
The cloves, paprika and cinnamon, along with orange, lemon and lime peel, give the bar a delicious orangey and slightly cake-like scent that reminds me somewhat of Christmas cake batter. The muscovado sugar adds to the sweetness of the product and dampens the bitterness you might expect from the addition of all of those citrus ingredients. What you end up with is a wonderfully comforting and slightly spicy winter fragrance that is guaranteed to loosen the stiffest muscles and bring life to those cold limbs.

As you can see from my video, I chose to use half of the bar, which I simply crumbled under the running tap and left it to work it's magic. As you can see from the video, the bubble bar immediately gets to work and produces an impressive amount of soft, silky bubbles that float on the surface and give you something to cocoon yourself in. Half a bar is more than enough to give you a wonderful experience in the tub - producing a surplus amount of bubbles fit for royalty.

The bubble bar turns the water a lovely shade of orange and creates a delicious warming orange scent that lingers for the entire bathing experience. Much like the traditional Scottish Hot Toddy beverage, which is made up of whiskey, lemon juice, honey and hot water, and drunk to warm you up in cold, Hot Toddy Bubble Bar does wonders at revitalising your skin and bringing life back into those cold limbs.

After my bath, my skin felt lovely and soft and I found that the scent lingered on my skin for a number of hours after use. However, it wasn't anywhere near as moisturising as most other bubble bars I have tried, which meant that I still had to use body lotion afterwards. I loved using this bubble bar, which I think would work wonders when used alongside either  Cinders or Lil Lush Pud. It's one I'd definitely pick up again; ideal for use during those cold winter evenings when nothing but a long soak will suffice.

  1. Hi jen, is the hot toddy bubble bar totally different to the holly golightly? Ive noticed that they will be in the kitchen next week and wouldnt mind trying it. Also, have you tried the brandy butter ballistic before? Id love to hear your thoughts xx

    1. It's not that different - in fact, I actually prefer HollyGolightly. It's lasts longer, produces more bubbles and is slightly stronger in scent. If you like the scent, I would recommended that you try it out though as you might have a different experience to me :)

    2. As for the Brandy Butter, I've never tried the bath bomb before so I'm rather intrigued. However, I have tried the buttercream, which I believe has the same scent, and really disliked it. I'll refrain from pre-judging the ballistic but if it smells as strongly of Brandy as the cream, I won't find it very enjoyable.

  2. I wanted a bubble bar to go with the cinders bath bomb as Ive just used up the last of my sparkling pumpkin and the holly golightly will probably go a disgusting colour so I might go for the hot toddy. Do you have any suggestions what would go well with cinders? I love the sound of the brandy butter as I love boozy scents!! X

    1. Hot Toddy would definitely go better with cinders bubble bar if you're thinking about the colour of the water! Although it's not a bubble bar, Melting Snowman bath melt goes wonderfully with Cinders - leaving your skin soft and smelling really wintery :)
