Pirates Of The Carrageenan

Oh Lush, sometimes your puns offer me as much enjoyment as the products themselves, and this recent bath bomb is no exception. If you’ve been after something to bring your pirate dreams to life in the bath, this is definitely going to take that fantasy to new Depps.

Pirates Of The Carrageenan is definitely one of those bath bombs that offers up nearly everything you could ever ask for. Firstly, the design - a bright green chest etched with a pirate skull - is gorgeous to look at. I can definitely imagine consumers purchasing this bath bomb solely on this feature alone.

Next up is the wonderfully strong aroma that will quite literally engulf any room it is left to reside in. Sharing its scent with Supertramp Shower Gel, this bath bomb offers a earthy, mossy blend of oakmoss, petigrain and patchouli: a wonderful concoction that showcases the spiciness of the latter ingredient, with strong, damp notes of the former.

The patchouli and oakmoss dance together, while the ginger adds a little touch of herbal spiciness, and the sandalwood grounds every one of the components together, and adds a warmth underneath that makes this bath bomb so special. Pirates Of The Carrageenan has a natural smell that reminds me a little of a damp forest after the rain has been: it's simply beautiful.

This is a bath bomb that will grapple with your senses immediately, and wont let go until its final breath. If you dislike strong smells, you'll need to avoid this one like the plague: I found myself still smelling remnants of this bath bomb a full twenty four hours after I had drained the water away from my bath. This is not an experience for the faint-hearted.

Not only does the smell permeate the room, and indeed the tub once it’s fully dissolved in the water, but the smell lingers on your skin and hair for hours afterwards, and I could even smell it on my pillow the following day. Even if you decide to cut the bomb in half and use a smaller piece in the water, I can imagine you would still get the same results in terms of strength.

While Pirates Of The Carrageenan feels quite compact and heavy in your hands, the bath bomb floats with ease on the surface of the water. Firstly, it sends out waves of bright green colour into the tub, which colours the water within a matter of seconds. Then streams of golden yellow begin to merge with the green - creating a thick, frothy puddle of colour on the surface. Once fully dissolved, the inclusion of lustre creates a wonderful golden shimmer, that pulsates and glimmers with movement.

Referencing its name, Pirates contains a generous helping of carrageenan seaweed, which turns the water into a haven of softness. You can feel how velvety the water is from the very start, and this only serves to replenish and moisturise your skin wonderfully. I could really feel how different my skin felt before and after my bath: it was incredible. Despite the inclusion of the seaweed, you’re not left with the same slimy mess that you’d expect from a jelly bomb, yet your skin will feel equally as gorgeous afterwards.

Whether it’s the design, or just how wonderful Pirates Of The Carrageenan left my skin feeling, I found this popular fragrance to be well-suited to this bath bomb, and it made me appreciate it a little more than I have done in the past. This is definitely one I would buy again, and one I would recommend to anyone looking for a bomb offering the ‘full package.’
