Bunny Bubble Bar

Inspired by the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland, this fresh-faced bubble bar is an 'almost new product', released to coincide with Lush's Easter 2014 range. By 'almost new', I am referring to the fact that, although we've never seen this design before, we have experienced it's scent in the form of Lush's popular Creamy Candy Bubble Bar. 

There have been mixed reactions to the fact that Lush have 'regurgitated' quite a number of their established scents to create this year's Easter/Mother's Day range. While I wish there were more unique fragrances to try, I do recognise that Lush cannot release brand new scents each and every season, especially if they want to ensure that the new smells that they do create, are interesting and long-lasting. Therefore, I'm not going to tarnish my opinions because of this fact.

Much like it's older brother, Bunny is packed full of rich oils and butters to soothe, soften and condition your skin, leaving it velvety soft and smelling wonderful. However, unlike it's predecessor, this bubble bar retains some of it's scent once it has been dissolved. This meant that I was able to enjoy the wonderful sweet smell throughout my entire bath. 

The scent itself is absolutely gorgeous. It's so sugary sweet and girly, reminding me of candy floss and the musky vanilla scent of freshly baked cupcakes. Although not as sickly sweet, this is definitely a product that would keep most fans of Snow Fairy very happy until Christmas. 

One aspect of Bunny that I was a little confused about, was that lush claimed that this bubble bar contained blue cornflowers, which are supposed to float through the water and surround you whilst your in the tub. All I got from mine, were little scraps of what looked like thin twigs, that only made themselves known once I was draining the water away. Despite this, I was impressed to find that this product turns the water a beautiful baby pink colour, strangely something that it's older brother doesn't do. 

Furthermore, the bath water felt lovely and silky without being greasy, and my skin stayed soft and smooth for many hours afterwards. Bunny is packed with Shea butter and coconut oil, both of which help to soften skin; they really do make you feel hydrated and royally pampered.The scent does linger on your skin, and I was pleasantly surprised when I could smell it on my pillow the next morning.

This is as wonderful bubble bar that actually outshines it's predecessor, and I'll definitely be buying a couple more of these to last me through the year. Whatever Lush have done to make this bubble bar successful, they should look into doing to Creamy Candy, as I'd be much more inclined to purchase more of them if they did.

Easter Range 2014

After Christmas, the Easter range is probably my second favourite season at Lush; the fragrances are usually brighter, sweeter scents and there's always a better range of different products to choose from. This year isn't any different. 

Immaculate Eggception

Like the Mother's Day range, there's some firm favourites making a reappearance, as well as some new faces. 

The biggest, and most expensive bath product on offer this year, is The Immaculate Eggception ballistic (£6.95), which comes in both a pink and yellow design. This bath bomb was first introduced last year and when you break open this egg, you’ll discover a mini bunny or chick bath bomb hidden in the centre. The Immaculate Eggception is fragranced with a beautiful blend of grapefruit, and lemon oils, and Fair Trade vanilla absolute. I picked up one of each to try last year but didn't get round to using them until recently, where I found they had lost there 'fizz' somewhat. 
 
Next up, is the popular Fluffy Egg, which is perfect for anyone who loves the 'Snow Fairy' scent. For £2.95, it's one of the cheaper ballistics available, and definitely worth a purchase. I'll be stocking up on this one!

Thirdly, and perhaps the one I'm most excited about, is The Brightside bubble bar, inspired by the cheerful Monty Python song. Containing an uplifting trio of Sicilian mandarin, tangerine and bergamot oils, this bubble bar is a luxurious sherbert-scented beauty. This bar made it's debut for last year's Easter range and made such an impression, that it's been brought back again. The bubble bar is huge, and possibly the best value out of the entire range; it could easily supply you with four tubs full of soft, citrusy bubbles. 


One of the new products this year is the Golden Egg bath bomb melt, a unique and exciting ballistic inspired by Cadbury's chocolate cream eggs. This bath bomb is coated in a bath melt, soft on the outside, with a hard inner core; making it the first of it's kind. It possesses a delicious honey-toffee fragrance which I'm so excited to test out. Like the Wonder Woohoo bubble bar featured in the Mother's Day range, I'm just a little worried about the addition of glitter here. However, I'll wait to try it before I judge. 
 
Next is the Carrot hand and body soap, a vegan soap that is shaped like a carrot and smells of tropical juice. Made with moisturising carrot seed oil and skin-softening Fair Trade cocoa butter, this luxurious blend of ingredients will supposedly soften your skin and leave it smelling like buchu and lemon.

Another new product is the Bunny Bubble Bar, a Creamy Candy scented bubble bar inspired by the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland, and rich in different oils and butters to leave your skin soft and conditioned moisturised. Furthermore, hidden in the centre are blue cornflower petals that make an appearance once the bubble bar has dissolved. The bubble bar isn't the most attractive one I've seen Lush bring out, but I'm more intrigued to see how it works in the water.

Finally, Lush have re-worked last year's Carrot Bubble Bar and created the Bunch of Carrots reusable bubble bars: a collection of bubble bars that create a tropical bathing experience. tropically scented water. Made up of buchu, lemon and grapefruit oils to create a blackcurranty and refreshing fragrance.

These limited edition products will be available online from Friday February 21st and in stores on the Saturday. 

Magic Wand Re-usable Bubble Bar

On paper, this product sounds like a dream; a Snow Fairy-fragranced 'wand' designed to fill your tub with an elixir of candy-scented bubbles. As the name suggests, this resembles that of a wand, with a pink star-shaped bubble bar attached to a wooden stick. Adorning the wand is a ribbon and a little bell, which is there for aesthetic purposes only.

To look at, this bubble bar is rather magical, and is a great piece to add to a gift set or as a stocking filler. It would appeal to young girls and those who like feminine looking products, as well as being a great value purchase for those who want to invest in something fun and affordable for their children. It's definitely one of Lush's more unique seasonal products, and I can imagine it being one of their biggest sellers as well. 

What's great about this bubble bar, is that it can be used multiple times, which makes it exceedingly good value for money. In fact, I managed to get six good quality baths out of a single bar, and as long as you keep it stored somewhere dry in-between uses, there's no reason why you can't stretch this to ten baths, if not more. 

How you use the wand is simple; just run a bath and then swirl the bubble bar around in the water, like you would a wand in the air. You'll find that the water begins to turn pink instantaneously and within a few seconds, large mounds of silky-soft bubbles begin to form. This part is probably the product's most appealing aspect; for one, it means you can choose how much to use each time, and secondly, the action of waving it like a wand, is a fun factor that kids will love. 

The scent is a sugary-sweet candy floss scented bubble bar, with hints of bubblegum and strawberry milkshake thrown in there for good measure. If anything, it's one of Lush's most synthetic-smelling products. 

Unfortunately, after the initial look and sniff, the Magic Wand wasn't all that exciting for me. For one, the product had a harsh underlying smell, which took away from the Snow Fairy scent that I know and love. At first, I thought that perhaps my wand was on the old side, and that it had started to deteriorate a little, causing the potent smell. However, I bought a newer one to compare and found that, that too had a strange, almost bleach-like undertone to it. 

Secondly, there's the small issue of having to store it in-between uses. Now obviously, this isn't a major concern, but it is something that you have to consider. Leaving it on or around the bath, just causes it to leak and shrink due to the moisture present; leaving it anywhere when it isn't dry will cause it to leak quite profusely and stain window ledges and cupboards if you're not careful.

Another issue I found was that the bar sometime deposits pieces of the bubble bar at the bottom of the tub, which isn't a nice experience when you find yourself resting on the gritty residue. Furthermore, for a bubble bar, it certainly didn't produce as many bubbles as other, regular products do. 

However, I will give it credit for it's moisturising properties; this product definitely does produce soft, velvety water that leaves your skin feeling really smooth and rejuvenated. Ultimately, I can see this being a popular product around the Christmas period, more so for the female species than the male. However, I much prefer my Snow Fairy in a bottle.

Limited Edition Lush Scents

It was around this time last year when my love of Lush reached new extremes and began to be more of an obsession. I found myself checking the website most days and trawling through the hundreds of threads on the international forum, interested in reading about any up-and-coming products, or simply those from the past that I so desperately wanted to try. 

It was also around this time last year that Lush released their limited edition 'forum party' perfumes for the first time since I had become a full-blown Lushie. At the time, my knowledge and experience of the products were rather limited, so aside from the 'must have' Comforter and Creamy Candy perfumes, I opted out of buying any of the others. I would later regret this decision when I discovered how wonderful the other fragrances were; I would now consider Snowcake, Rose Jam and Twilight to be three of my all-time favourite Lush scents.  

Fast forward to 2013 and I get wind of an upcoming perfume release; five limited edition perfumes, four of which have been featured as forum specials in the past and one brand new addition that has never been released as a perfume before.

Straight away my mind utters two phrases - Day of the Dead and Ponche. The former (also known as Calacas) is easily my second favourite scent after The Comforter. Although I have an almost full bottle of the stuff already, I had been using it very scrupulously in fear that I'd run out, so being able to stock up would have been a godsend. 

Secondly, I hoped and prayed that Ponche would be the new perfume, even though it didn't seem to be a popular suggestion from other Lush fans. Ever since I had tried that boozy-citrusy shower gel last Christmas, I had fallen in love, and the thought of being able to spray myself and enjoy the scent throughout the entire day sounded heavenly. 

So when I was presented with these five little beauties, my heart was in my mouth and my bank balance was already groaning under the strain. 

I am ecstatically happy about Calacas and Ponche, and equally excited about Snow Fairy; it is a favourite scent of mine (number six, I believe) but often gets overshadowed by The Comforter, Karma and Calacas. It's one of Lush's biggest sellers during the Christmas period, and I'm sure, like me, is a product that draws customers into their shops and turns them into life-long addicts. This will be much appreciated by fans around the world although I think Lush are silly not to present these in shops as they would probably sell by the bucket load.

I appreciate that Lush have brought back both Rose Jam and Snowcake from last year; I know that both fragrances play an important role in the Christmas range this year, and I'm glad I can finally get my hands on a few bottles of each to keep me going for a while. However, I am a little disappointed that Lush didn't opt to release two perfumes that haven't been seen in a while: Cinders would have made a great option as it's a very popular scent and cinnamon is very heavily featured in this year's Christmas products (Glogg, Spice Mountain, Hot Toddy).

Although I am happy with the range and excited to get my greedy little mitts on these bottles of 'liquid gold', I wish that Lush had included more original scents in their range - I would love to have seen Angels Delight, Let The Good Times Roll or Gold FUN embodied as a perfume. 

Needless to say, I have gone a little overboard and brought eighteen bottles to keep me going. Some might say that that's a little extreme but that's what savings are for, right?

Creamy Candy Bubble Bar

Creamy Candy Bubble Bar was one of the first Lush products I ever tried, back when the only products I used were the ones given to me as presents. I remembered being bowled over by the delicious sugary scent back then and raved about it for days, saying it was the next best thing to Snow Fairy and vowing to buy a million more if I ever walked past a Lush store. 

Luckily for my bank balance, I lived nowhere a Lush store, which was good because, at the time, I was a broke student who'd have probably traded the last of my food money for bubble bars. Not really a healthy way to go about things really...

However, when I rediscovered Creamy Candy Bubble Bar last weekend, my experience was a somewhat sombre experience to say the least. In fact, I'll go as far as saying that I was slightly disappointed with what I discovered. 

Don't get me wrong, Creamy Candy still smells absolutely divine and it's certainly not a terrible bubble bar. It does exactly what it's supposed to do; fill your tub with mountains of silky bubbles and give you a wonderful smelling bath. However, perhaps now that I am more aware of what Lush have to offer, I recognise that there are far better bubble bars available. 

Old Design (Pre April 2015)

To look at, the Creamy Candy Bubble Bar is beautiful. In a soft, baby pink, the bar is decorated with a (now) vegan flower that you can get in a whole range of different colours. The strong fragrance it gives off is a sugary, sweet and very girly smell that fans of Think Pink, Snow Fairy and The Comforter, will no doubt love and cherish. 

The scent itself is absolutely gorgeous. It's so sugary sweet and girly, reminding me of candy floss and the musky vanilla scent of freshly baked cupcakes. Although not as sickly sweet, this is definitely a product that would tide most fans of Snow Fairy over until the all-magical Christmas period. 

Although not as big as The Brightside or The Comforter bubble bars, I had been planning to get two baths out of it. However, I found that the scent wasn't very strong once half the bar has been fully crumbled and I ended up using the entire thing. 

Despite the strong scent that Creamy Candy gave off whilst it was being crumbled, this all but disappeared once it has been dissolved. During my bathing experience, I could barely smell anything at all, unless I really tried, and even then it was a very faint scent. I was really disappointed as I'd been looking forward to re-living this gorgeous smelling bath for a while. 

Despite the bar being pink, it actually turned my bath water a faint, murky grey colour. This isn't a terrible problem as you could just as easily add a bath bomb, such as Think Pink, to the mix. However, if I compare this bubble bar to The Comforter, which turns the water a beautiful shade of pink as well as filling the bath tub with irresistible bubbles, it's easy to see why I was a little disappointed with Creamy Candy. 

On the positive side, the bath water felt lovely and silky without being greasy, and my skin stayed soft and smooth for many hours afterwards. Strangely, despite the bar losing it's smell almost instantaneously when being dissolved, the scent does linger on your skin, and I was pleasantly surprised when I could smell it on my pillow the next morning.

Overall, it is far from a terrible product, and I would probably use it again alongside other bath bombs/melts. However, when I compare Creamy Candy to other bubble bars, this one doesn't fair as well as them, which is why I would not use it again on it's own.

Bubblegum Lip Scrub

Over the past eight months, I have managed to amass some six different lip scrubs from Lush. And up until two months ago, I hadn't attempted to use any of them. They claim to clear dead skin and flakiness from lips, leaving them moisturised and smooth. However, I just assumed they were a bit of a novelty and told myself I'd 'get around' to using them at some point. Oh me of little faith! When will I ever learn?

Last month, after weeks of dried, cracked lips, I thought I'd dig out one of the famous lip scrubs and give it a go. And I've regretted any animosity I've shown towards these products ever since. 

All of Lush's lips scrubs are made mostly from castor sugar, which acts as the 'scrub' and jojoba oil, which helps to moisturise the skin. As you can see from the ingredients list, there is not a whole lot more that goes into this product, which is a good thing.

The scrub itself is a bright bubblegum pink colour (hence the name); you can clearly see the grains of the lip scrub which feel extremely gritty when you scoop it up onto your finger. However, the best aspect of this product is that the scent shares itself with that of Snow Fairy, one of Lush's best ever creations. 

The scrub smells delicious, a mixture of strawberry bubblegum and candy floss; a scent that certainly smells good enough to eat. And for the thousands of Lushies around the world who have dreamt of drinking Snow Fairy by the gallon, who have perhaps even dipped a finger in and hoped it would taste as good as it smells, Bubblegum is a product that could not have come soon enough. Yes my friends, this is edible Snow Fairy!

To use I simply scoop out a tiny amount with my finger and then rub the scrub all over my lips in a circular motion. Then the best part; I use my tongue to lick off the excess sugar from my lips before applying my favourite lip gloss or balm. 

It makes my lips feel beautifully soft and moisturised and removes dead and dried skin, instantly improving the look and feel of my lips. I tend to use this twice daily, and within 3-4 days, my lips are always smooth and kissable. 

This small pot, although priced at a hefty £5.50 is fantastic value for money because it can easily last for 6+ months, depending on how often your apply it. I recommend you try it out for yourself, just try not to eat too much of it.
