Heavanilli Massage Bar

I had housed this massage bar for a good many months before I decided to use it for the first time - a decision I was soon to regret upon realising how delicious this massage bar actually is. It only took a single use for me to fall in love with this product and to question why on earth it was ever discontinued in the first place.

Heavanilli is a massage bar that has the whole package. Firstly, it's lovely to look at - a cream-coloured heart with a vivid pink sash spelling out the word 'LUSH' across the middle. Whether it was intentional or not, the product reminds me a little of a popular tattoo design - although unfortunately, it won't last as long.

With a name that references the beauty of vanilla-scented products, you won't be surprised to discover that this bar gives off a wonderfully rich vanilla fragrance. In fact, this bar shares it's scent with the popular Vanillary range, which includes a Perfume, Dusting Powder, Body Lotion and the now discontinued Vanilla Fountain Ballistic.

With generous helpings of tonka bean, jasmine and vanilla absolute, this massage bar is a deliciously sweet indulgence for the senses. The smell it emanates is a concoction of warm caramel, cinder-toffee and toasted marshmallows - a naturally beautiful musky aroma that trumps all other vanilla fragrances in the cosmetic world. This bar is extra special because the jasmine has a slightly stronger part to play in the overall fragrance - giving Heavanilli a gentle floral element to boot.

To use the massage bar, you can do one of two things. I tend to warm my hands up a little before carefully rubbing the bar all over my body. Once I've smeared enough on my skin, I then use my hands to massage it all over evenly. You can also use the warmth of your hands to melt the massage bar somewhat, before using this to smother it all over your skin like you would a normal lotion.

I found that Heavanilli is a slightly greasy massage bar and tends to leave a thick layer of oil on the skin. This residue does get absorbed into the skin but it takes a lot longer than most other massage bars I have used in the past. For this reason, it's best not to use this if you're in a hurry as it'll wipe onto your clothes before it has time to work with the skin. I like to use this after a relaxing bath and then lounge around in my towel for a while to let the oils do their job.

What is good about the consistency of this product is that it leaves a natural looking shine on your skin, which perks your skin up and gives it a nice glow. It also fulfils its job by leaving your skin super soft and smooth after use. I was really impressed by the condition of my skin after a single use of this bar - the results were instantly noticeable. Furthermore, it leaves a wonderful aroma on your body which remains for many hours after application and can be topped up by using Vanilla Dee-Lite

While it's not the easiest of massage bars to use, it does yield a good amount of oil if you persevere. I found that when my hands were rather warm after a bath, it was a lot easier to use than when my hands were their normal temperature. For this reason, I find it helps to rub your hands together and create a little heat before using Heavanilli.

The bar moisturises really well and I was rather impressed with how nourished my skin felt and looked the morning after I had used this. The results are long-lasting and instantly noticeable. The gorgeous vanilla scent was warming and very comforting, and I found myself using this as a solid hand cream at times to re-experience it's wonderful aroma throughout the day.

Priced at £7.75, it may initially seem a little expensive, given it's size. However, I managed to get 8-10 full body moisturises out of it which is like most other massage bars that Lush offer. This is a gorgeous solid treat that everyone needs to experience at least once and one that I'll be stocking up on to enjoy again and again. Get yours this week in the kitchen!

  1. We still had it when I first started working at Lush (Roosevelt Field location - Long Island NY). If I'd known at the time that it would be discontinued I would have purchased a lot more!
6 1/2 years later, I still miss Heavanilli!
