Winter Berry Soap

As I have been so absent from the community these last few months, I quite literally have no clue what products have been released, and every new item I pull out of my box is a complete surprise. Therefore, when I first pulled out a slab of Winter Berry Soap, my immediate reaction was that it was just a brand new rendition of the Raspberry Milkshake Soap.

However, upon inspection of the ingredients list and the scent that greeted my nose, I realised that it was not as I originally assumed. In fact, upon further investigation, I discovered that this brand new member of the Christmas range supposedly shared it scent with the Angels' Delight Soap that was a regular feature of the season range a good many years ago.

For those who have not perhaps been travelling with me on my Lush journey, I can honestly say that the aforementioned smell, which also happens to feature in the Tennis Ball Bath Bomb and the Magic Wand Soap as well, is easily one of my favourite fruity smells that Lush have ever produced. However, I feel as if some of its magic has been lost very slightly in this latest soap offering.

To my nose, the smell of Winter Berry is a bright, fruity tangerine smell, with an extra playful burst of magic that can almost be associated with any other citrus smell you wish to imagine. Think you can smell a fruity strawberry smell here? You're probably right. Something a little more bright and citrusy overtaking your nose? Why not. There is something about this warming aroma that smells almost synthetic but equally as fresh and playful, and blimin' beautiful.

However, what spoilt this experience for me was the soap itself. On the surface, I loved the fact that Lush included an abundance of strawberry seeds to add a little exfoliation action when I lathered the soap across my skin. You can honestly feel the presence of the seeds under the surface of the soap, and it does make a difference to how smooth your skin feels afterwards, without being at all 'scratchy' in the process.

The design of the soap as well, with its bumpy surface, means that you almost feel as if you're giving yourself a massage whilst you're cleaning yourself. This only serves to calm and relax your body and mind a little more, which is perfect if your plan is to head to bed soon after you've had your shower.

However, a design flaw that I noticed was that the soap appeared rather thin from the very first use. Although easy to hold and manoeuvre across the body, within a couple of days it almost felt as if the soap was going to break in half when under the water: it felt flimsy and like there was very little product in the block to begin with.

While Winter Berry is sold in 100g blocks, I almost feel as if you're getting a lot less product that other soaps of the same weight. This is probably more to do with the shape of the design itself, but needless to say that I feel as I won't be able to utilise this soap as long as some of the other seasonal soaps, because of the fact that the way it shrinks leaves it harder to use across the skin.

Having said that, Winter Berry does produce quite a nice oily lather, which coats the skin with ease and leaves a wonderful fruity fragrance that lingers for a good hour after you've left the shower. However, by itself it hasn't proven to be particularly nourishing on my skin, and I did need to use a body lotion afterwards to put back some of that moisture into my skin again.

Overall, I really appreciated the scent of this soap and I did enjoy the strawberry seeds to add a little exfoliation. However, the design and shape of this doesn't allow for any sort of longevity once the soap begins to shrink, and therefore wouldn't be one that I would invest in a second time around.

Comfort Zone Shower Bomb

When Lush first introduced the term 'shower bomb', I was rather skeptical about whether or not this concept held any worth in the cosmetics industry. Was there any merits to using such a short-life product or would this be another temporary craze that disappeared into obscurity within a few months? As time have passed by and my experience with these little beauties has multiplied, it is safe to say that I am now completely on board with what Lush next have to offer.

Comfort Zone Shower Bomb is a cute little cylinder (that I believe is supposed to represent a blanket) with multiple meanings behind its name. Not only does the title reference how comforting the smell of the product is when in use, but both the ingredients and the name itself also hint at the more political issue of climate change. As Lush have stated on their website: Does the currant climate leave you feeling berry insecure?

Sharing its scent with The Comforter range, this pretty little shower bomb first started out as a Liverpool exclusive, before being released quite recently as a regular product in stores and online. Featuring blackcurrant absolute and fresh raspberries in the ingredients list, there's no wonder that consumers are finding this berrylicious creation so gorgeous: I certainly have.
A classic scent that has been around for years, The Comforter is a warm, sweet and very fruity aroma. While I would describe the fragrance of this shower bomb to be very berry-like overall, it is the blackcurrant that makes the biggest impression here: creating a deliciously sultry and yet very playful aroma, while the cypress oil adds a layer of soothing sweetness to calm you down and round the fragrance off perfectly.

To my nose, Comfort Zone is perhaps a little lighter and fruitier than the original bubble bar and definitely appears to have a stronger scent as well. When using this in the shower, my senses were completely flooded with the aroma; the smell remained on my skin for hours; and the fragrance lingered quite heavily in the bathroom for a very long time.

To use, you simply need to hold the shower bomb under the running water during your shower, where it will immediately begin to expand and create a fragrant foam in your hand within a matter of seconds. The heat of the water will then help to release the different essential oils that have gone into making the bomb, which is supposed to help alter your mood depending on the purpose of the shower bomb itself.
In this case, Comfort Zone is designed to help calm your mind and bring you some peace during times when you perhaps feel a little overwhelmed with everything. This shower bomb will offer you the biggest cuddle in the shower and its fragrance will hold you tight for hours afterwards as well, which is the perfect remedy at the end of a long day.

Once the shower bomb has began creating its foam, the idea is that you can lather and massage this across the skin much like you would a shower gel. The inclusion of both the potato starch and the sodium alginate allow the bomb to soften and moisture the skin, while the different oils clean out the pores and leave your skin looking and smelling rather delicious. Furthermore, the inclusion of the chia seeds in Comfort Zone, which you can spot when the shower bomb begins to dissolve under the water, gives this product a soft, gel-like consistency that only serves to make your skin feel even softer when in use.

If you're someone like me who was worried at first that the inclusion of the sodium bicarbonate and citric acid will irritate your skin, I can assure you that this is not the case at all. In fact, my only piece of advice when using this is to ensure that you haven't shaved after applying this to the skin, as some of Lush's shower bombs can sting a little because of the open pores. Having said that, I didn't experience this at all when using this shower bomb in particular, so it was another added bonus on top of everything else.

While the consistency of the foam is slightly scratchy and not at all like the silkiness of a regular Lush shower gel or jelly, my skin did feel really clean and soft after using the shower bomb. Furthermore, I was able to clean my entire body, from head to foot, and still have product left over afterwards. Because of this, it would be completely reasonable to cut one of these shower bombs in half and use them across two, perhaps even three showers.
As with all of Lush's recent shower bomb releases, Comfort Zone not only left my skin feeling really smooth and clean but the scent lingered for an impressive amount of time afterwards. Despite there not being much of a difference between the smell of this and other Comforter-scented products, I found myself appreciating the scent of this far more than I expected to. This is definitely a shower bomb I would purchase again and I am so glad it has made it into the regular line.

Megawatt Smile Toothpaste Jelly

I must have deprived my body of something sweet this weekend as, without realising it, I ended up gravitating towards the more foody tasting toothpaste jellies first. If the idea of Strawberries & Clean isn't particularly very appealing to your tastebuds, perhaps this dessert-like alternative will gage a better reaction.

One of ten brand new innovative toothpaste jellies that Lush have recently created, Megawatt Smile is only currently available in the Shinjuku store in Japan, and from tomorrow the Liverpool superstore as well. While an invention such as this won't be this exclusive for long, when these beauties will appear online and in other stores is a mystery at the moment.

Containing a lemon balm infusion as the main ingredient, there is no surprise that the key taste of this jelly is a sweet and fruity one. However, with the addition of olibanum oil, which adds a sultry layer alongside the lemon, the taste of this toothpaste jelly is far more rounded and creamier. To my tastebuds, Megawatt Smile is reminiscent of lemon meringue pie: that creamy combination of the fluffy meringue and the lemon sauce at the base level. At the same time, my nose detects a smell that may also remind some consumers of lemon sherbets, albeit a little less citrusy but still equally as tantalising.

What I really appreciated about this toothpaste jelly was that the lemon balm infusion still left my mouth feeling really clean and refreshed afterwards. Although it wasn't at all bright and zesty as lemon normally is, this gorgeous little product did wonders at removing all of the foody smells I was carrying around for lunch. Furthermore, my teeth felt so good that I couldn't help but run my tongue along them for ages afterwards.

The idea with all of these new tooth jellies is that you simply scoop your toothbrush across the top of the surface of the product and a small amount (or however much you wish to use) will rub off onto the bristles, and this is what you use to brush your teeth with. With all ten of these new jellies, I found that it was very easy to apply only the smallest of amount to my brush: I barely dented the surface at all to begin with, so these little 60g pots will last you a very long time. In fact, I would even say that they may outlast that of a regular-sized 200g tube of toothpaste.

Once I began brushing, I found that it 'lathered up' exactly like a regular toothpaste and at no point did I feel or experience any jelly pieces still in my mouth. The product dissolved very quickly and then worked exactly as you would hope a tooth paste would do so. Furthermore, I was able to spit the paste out multiple times and never once ran out of foam on my toothbrush. These jellies are super generous when it comes to how much foam they produce in your mouth, despite how little product you need to use. Whereas I would normally use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste, I was able to use a piece the size of a grain of rice and yet heed the same results.

What I would say is that as the product is self preserving, it's important to keep your toothbrush fairly dry when you run it across the product. Adding moisture of any kind to these naked cosmetics could reduce the shelf life of the jelly and may open up the possibility of bacteria multiplying over time. For this reason, it's also essential that the lid is left on so as not to attract any unwanted germs. Given that I can imagine one of these pots lasting me a good 3-4 months as a minimum, I certainly wouldn't want the paste exposed to any bacteria, if I can help it.

After using Megawatt Smile, I was really impressed how clean my whole mouth felt, without there being an intense taste lingering around for hours afterwards. Whereas Strawberries & Clean was perhaps a little too mild for my liking, this toothpaste jelly sat perfectly in the middle of offering a taste strong enough to leave your breath smelling great, without the worry of it tainting any food you may wish to eat afterwards.

As I will say in all of my toothpaste jelly reviews, it was nice not to have to worry about any annoying lumps that some of Lush's toothy tabs can leave in your mouth during brushing. This little gem simply dissolved as soon as I started brushing and there wasn't any wastage from bits getting stuck in my teeth or falling out when I spat into the sink.

As with most of Lush's new toothpaste jellies, this one contains many key ingredients to actually help this product to act like a toothpaste. Hydrated silica works well as a whitening and teeth cleaning agent: helping to remove the stains from the surface of your teeth without damaging the enamel. Then there is xylitol, which is a natural sweetener that doesn't contain any fructose, so will help to protect your teeth from damage, and will hopefully help to reduce your risk of cavities over time.

If you're looking for something a little different from the regular mint-tasting toothpastes, but perhaps something that doesn't offer a taste too different and strange for the palette, this might be a good variation to try. Especially if you're wanting to brush your teeth after a meal, without inflicting your tastebuds to a strong dosage of menthol, Megawatt Smile may be one you consider.

Whether I'm guided by the colour of the paste or simply the smell and taste, this toothpaste compliments the warmer weather in every way. Given how much I've enjoyed using this one, I'm currently considering taking this with me on my summer holiday trip abroad. Like a summery lemon cocktail, this toothpaste jelly is definitely one that will brighten your day, and indeed your smile.

Quantitative Ingredients: Lemon Balm Infusion (Melissa officinalis), Sorbitol, Glycerine, Silica, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Xylitol, Alcoholic Tincture of Electric Daisies (Spilanthes oleracea), Bergamot Oil (Citrus Aurantium bergamia), Litsea Cubeba Oil, Olibanum Oil (Boswellia carterii), Stevia (Stevia Rebaudiana), Agar Agar (Gelidium cartilagineum), Carrageenan Extract (Chondrus crispus), Titanium Dioxide, Water (Aqua), Coarse Sea Salt, Sodium Bicarbonate, Amyl Cinnamal, *Benzyl Cinnamate, *Cinnamal, *Cinnamyl Alcohol, *Citral, *Geraniol, *Limonene, *Linalool, Flavour, Colour 19140.

Quicksand FUN Bar

From an outside perspective, it's sometimes a little confusing when certain products get discontinued and others suddenly make an appearance, especially when you assume that these products are rather popular when they're obviously not selling very well. It confused me quite a lot when Lush took away both the Yuzu And Cocoa Bubbleroon and Shower Cream from their shelves, as I always thought that these were two of their biggest sellers.

When the company then brought out a Yuzu And Cocoa Liquid Perfume a few months later, and a Yuzu And Cocoa Body Lotion and Shower Jelly not long after, I couldn't for the life of me decide whether or not this product was actually just really popular as an exclusive, or whether Lush had underestimated how much negative feedback they would receive from removing the classic duo from their shops.

Either way, I was thrilled to learn that Quicksand FUN was scented with the same fragrance as the Yuzu And Cocoa range, and I couldn't wait to try it out for size. Not only did the format, design and fragrance intrigue me, but reading the description also had me interested in how a fun bar with actual sand in the ingredients list would work on my skin.

What I found with Quicksand was that first and foremost the Yuzu And Cocoa scent worked perfectly in this format. Both fruity and creamy, this Liverpool exclusive boasted all of the fruity properties that you would expect from any other product in this range.

A distinctive and rather difficult ingredient to describe, the yuzu is a Japanese fruit that has a scent not too far off of that of a grapefruit, albeit slightly more exotic and rounded smelling. Coupled with the grapefruit oil itself, these two add a wonderfully sweet fruity smell unlike anything else that Lush have made.

Alongside this, the cocoa absolute then gives that 'chocolate-orange' element that Lush describe: thickening the overall fragrance and adding a rich, creamy depth to the scent. Underneath this is a dash of tonka absolute that pads out the creamy bass note, while the bergamot oil adds a sweetness that compliments the other ingredients and rounds the FUN off beautifully.

Simply put: Quicksand FUN smells absolutely beautiful and very much like the warm, fruity dessert that we've come to recognise this smell as. Everything about the scent of this will have you salivating from the get-go and it's definitely on par with the likes of the bath bomb and the body lotion.
Not only does it smell divine, but it also happens to be super effective in the shower. This bar happens to be a little on the soft side so it definitely should be stored somewhere really cool between uses, and I'd definitely recommend that you only take a tiny piece with you into the shower each time as you really don't need a lot.

Alongside this, Quicksand boasts the addition of sand in the ingredients list, so this beautiful exclusive also offers a gentle exfoliation when it's being used. You can actually feel the little grains of sand getting to work at buffering and cleaning you skin, and you can feel the difference afterwards.

As soon as it comes into contact with the water, it lathers up and creates a thick, fragrant foam that coats your skin and leaves the scent lingering on your body. Much like a soap, the fragrance comes into full force when it reacts to the heat of the water and you really have to fight the urge not to munch on the bar whilst you're using it. I dare say at least one person has probably had a taste of this at some point and been sorely disappointed!
I will go as far as to say that this is even better than a shower cream as it lathers up a treat in the shower and produces a gorgeous, silky-soft mound of suds to clean yourself with. When you massage this across your skin, you can feel how instantly smooth it makes you feel and you can still detect the fragrance on your skin when you exit the bathroom, and for hours afterwards as well. It doesn't dry your skin out at all and the only thing that you may want to be careful with is applying too much at any one go. As it's quite a sticky product, you'll find that using too much at once will just create a messy paste in your hand, which is not a major problem, but does mean that the product is being wasted that this 'mess' will need to be used up instead of being stored for a later date.

Much like every other FUN bar, Quicksand can also be used instead of a bubble bar - held under a running tap to create a surplus amount of bubbles and a beautifully fragrant bath to enjoy. Again, this bar worked well in this way although it didn't produce as many bubbles as some of the other FUN bars have done so, perhaps because of its softer constancy. I cut a slice that probably equated to a sixth of the bar and this gave me more than enough bubbles, so this works out cheaper than a regular bubble bar.

While the product doesn't really create an exciting or colourful bath, the smell more than makes up for it and offers a relaxing and very comforting bath tub experience for all. Having said that, I would recommend that you use this in place of a shower gel as opposed to a bubble bar, as you get a much more rewarding experience this way and the product goes a lot further. Using it as a bubble bar will also leave a mild trace of the sand at the bottom of the tub, which may prove a little prickly to sensitive bottoms.

I'd probably go as far as to say that Quicksand FUN is one of my favourite inventions from Lush in a while, even if the bar itself is super sticky and almost like a sunken cake than a FUN bar. If you're a fan of the Yuzu And Cocoa scent, you will need to get your hands on one of these right away. This needs to be made a permanent for certain, otherwise I'll be trekking up to Liverpool myself, just to grab some of these in the future.

Quantitative Ingredients: Cornflour, Talc, Fine Sea Salt, Glycerine, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sand, Cocoa Absolute, Bergamot Oil, Grapefruit Oil, Tonka Absolute, Cocoa Powder, Aloe Vera Extract, Titanium Dioxide, Gardenia Extract, Coumarin, Limonene, Linalool, Perfume.

Glow Worm FUN Bar

Avobath Bath Bomb was one of the very first products I ever tried from Lush and many of my earliest memories feature that classic product. It's a scent that reminds me of my journey into the company: when everything was new and exciting and very overwhelming. Since then we have seen an impressive number of products make an appearance in this scent, most recently this limited edition FUN Bar.

Named Glow Worm because it also happens to glow in the dark, this luminescent bar of FUN is exclusive to the Lush Liverpool store. While fairly plain in demeanour, it's definitely worth an investment, and I can only hope that my review will tempt a few people to try it out for themselves.

Featuring a generous helping of lemongrass, bergamot and rosewood, this squid little bar of fun offers a bright, zesty, uplifting lemongrass scent, with a green-like undercurrent, and a little of the rosewood for grounding underneath. If you're for a fragrance that will compliment the warmer weather, I cannot think of anything better than this one.

Much like with each of the limited edition Liverpool FUN bars that have come out with this one, Glow Worm is really easy to use and very generous in the bath and shower. You only need to break off a piece the size of a small grape and this will produce enough suds to last you the entire shower. Simply massage the piece between your palms, allowing a little water to get involved, and the FUN bar produces a mass of silky-soft foam to clean yourself with.

Unlike a lot of FUN Bars, this one happens to be a little on the squishy side to begin with, so I'd highly recommend that you store it somewhere cool between uses, and ensure you only take a small amount into the water with you each time. Otherwise, you're likely to make a sticky mess on the side of the bath if you leave the product there exposed to heat and damp.

I have also tried this in the bath - using it in the same way I would a bubble bar by holding it under a running tap to create a surplus amount of bubbles and a beautifully fragrant bath to enjoy. Again, this bar worked really well in this way and I really enjoyed being able to bathe in the fragrance alongside of Avobath Bath Bomb for extra zest! I cut a slice that probably equated to about a sixth of the bar and this gave me more than enough bubbles, so this works out cheaper than a regular bubble bar for sure.

For those who love this smell, you can also use this in replacement of your regular shampoo, and coupled with the conditioner will leave your locks smelling wonderful. While I haven't tried this in my hair, I've heard from many people that FUN works well in this way and I cannot see why this one would be any different.

To conclude; I really loved this FUN bar and I think Lush would do well bringing it out for everybody to enjoy at some point in the future. It cleaned and moisturised my skin well and left a wonderful fragrance that lingered on my skin for a good hour after I had towelled myself down. Despite the hefty price tag, the fact that I needed to use a lot less than other FUN Bars made it seem better value for money, and I would certainly buy it again.

Groovy Kind Of Love Bath Bomb (2019 Edition)

If there is one thing that appeals to me more than anything else when it comes to my bath bombs, it's the promise of lots of vibrancy and lots of fragrance in the bath tub. Whether or not the bomb is at all moisturising is far less a priority than what the product actually looks like when 'in action.' For this reason, our next bath bomb was definitely high on my list of ones I wanted to try first.

Groovy Kind Of Love is actually not as new as some Lush fans may believe. First released during a showcase event in 2017, this bath bomb has already been made available to lucky fans able to attend the event. Having said that, the scent of the original is very different to the new updated version, and I'll be honest when I say that it took me a while to fully forgive Lush for dropping such an amazing aroma.
Having said that, this brand new edition is equally as scrumptious to look at as much as it is to watch in the water. With the summer fast approaching in the UK, this is definitely a product that I will be buying multiples of for when I'm wanting a refreshing and uplifting experience in the bath.

Firstly, there's no denying that Groovy Kind Of Love is one of the most stunning bath bombs to look at. Sporting an entire rainbow of different colours, this little beauty sends out every colour imaginable when it hits the waters. Puddles of pink and orange, yellow, green and blue foam decorates the surface of the water very quickly, all whilst the bath bomb spins violently under the surface of the water. I can honestly say that I've never seen a bath bomb move so quickly in my bath tub and it was a real joy to watch it go.

After a short time, Groovy Kind Of Love slows down quite a bit but the colours keep appearing from the core of the bath bomb. Once the product has fully dissolved, you're left with a very beautiful shade of orange to bathe in, which matches the beautiful fruity aroma that lingers alongside this.
As for its new fragrance, this bath bomb offers a collaboration of rosewood, bergamot and ylang ylang, which together create a warm, fruity and very citrusy aroma. The bergamot is definitely the strongest element here, which is why the bath bomb is very bright and almost has what I would say as being slightly juicy, sherbet-like notes to it. Alongside this, the rosewood offers a gentle layer of naturally sweet floral elements, which grounds the smell a little and adds a resinous note underneath.

This is a very refreshing yet equally robust and very warming fragrance, and one that suits the design more than I could have hoped for. What I really appreciated about Groovy Kind Of Love was that the fragrance lingered on throughout my whole experience in the tub, and then onto my skin as I towelled myself down. Although the fruity elements mellowed somewhat, and I found that the rosewood came through a little more during the process, I really enjoyed how settled yet equally refreshed I felt in the bath tub.
While the new fragrance is not as appealing to me as the original was, I still very much appreciate that Groovy Kind Of Love is a bath bomb that is openly available to me at all times. It epitomise the very essence of summer to me and I am so glad I ended up leaving this one to last when trying out all of the 54 new baths bombs.

Sunset FUN Bar

One of eleven exclusive FUN bars that are currently only available from the Liverpool store, Sunset was easily one of the products that I was most excited to get my hands on. While I'm still rather clueless as to what many of the exclusives smell like, this particular bar I had read about before, so I already knew that I was going to love it.

Sharing its scent with The Brightside Bubble Bar, this gorgeous vibrant orange beauty is as uplifting and as stunning as its name suggests. Packed full of mandarin and tangerine oils, this bar offers a juicy, fruity aroma with a sharp citrusy edge to finish. It's super bright and fresh and doesn't compromise the natural sweetness of any of the oils used.

As with all of the other FUN bars that Lush offer, this one is versatile in how you use it and does a great job in each role. Firstly, this is a great replacement for either your shower jelly, soap or gel. Simply take a small piece (about the size of a grape), wet it under the shower hose and massage it directly across your body. The bar foams up a treat and produces an impressive amount of light, fluffy lather that can be distributed across your skin with ease.
Just like Lush's shower gels, this bar leaves your skin really clean and with a super fruity fragrance to accompany you for a short while after you've towelled yourself down. While it's not as moisturising as the gels and jellies, I don't find FUN bars to be as drying on the skin as soap can be, even though they don't offer the complex scents you'd expect with Lush soaps.

Secondly, FUN can be used in much the same way as a bubble bar: crumbling a small piece under the running tap to produce some bubbles as part of a cocktail. What I will say is that you don't get much more than just a light shade of orange in the water when using this particular one, and it's definitely not as moisturising as an actual bubble bar. However, I did find that I could smell the Fun Bar alongside Groovy Kind Of Love Bath Bomb, which I added during one of my bath cocktails. Although it did produce some bubbles to go with the scent, these didn't seem to stick around for too long after I entered the bath. Having said all of this, Sunset definitely doesn't replicate the original bubble bar, and I would suggest using this in other ways and stick to The Brightside when you want those mounds of bubbles.

Finally, FUN can be used as a replacement for a shampoo. While I haven't tried this (due to the number of new shampoos that Lush have unleashed on us recently) I can imagine it would lather up well and leave your hair smelling super gorgeous afterwards.
Much like I've stated in all of my reviews, you will need to consider how to store this product between uses, as it has a tendency to leave a sticky mess on any side it is left, if wet. While I love the fact that it's not in pot so it saves on packaging, you will need to keep this FUN Bar cool and dry in between showers. I would suggest breaking off a few pieces and storing them in a pot, away from any possible running water, as this will prolong the life of the bar.

For £3.95, this little 100g bar isn't the most expensive of investments and I have thoroughly enjoyed using this in my morning showers as it is the perfect 'wake me up' before the gym. My only issue with Sunset is that it's now got me dreaming about a Brightside-scented shower gel, which at the moment isn't available to buy.
