Although my dad would have no interest in receiving bath bombs, soaps and facial scrubs as a present, I love the fact that Lush have branched out and created a Fathers' Day range this year. Despite the company's attempt to dismiss the idea of cosmetics being strictly a 'female thing', there are still those that probably wouldn't even consider a beauty product of this nature for their father, which is a shame as there is such a vast and wonderful range of products out there to be enjoyed.
Consisting of six brand new products - a solid shampoo bar, bubble bar, bath bomb, soap, facial scrub and body lotion, the Fathers' Day range is as diverse as it is impressive - a collection with some really interesting scents making their debut, as well as some familiar ones.
Thanks Dad is a soap that although new, shares its scent with the recently released Bouncy Bunny Shower Jelly, as well as the Modfather Bubble Bar, which is another fantastic feature in this seasonal selection. Containing a generous helping of Brazilian orange oil, this dainty soap has a warm, refreshing, fruity smell - one that reminds me of both the orange Starburst sweets and a fresh scoop of citrus sorbet.
While the comparisons may suggest that the fragrance is a synthetic-smelling one, I can assure you it's not - think of it as more like freshly peeled mandarins or satsumas, but with an almost 'polished' element to it that rounds the smell off and gives the soap an almost creamy note to it. In simplest terms, it is beautiful.
On the one hand, it's not a smell that'll initially knock you off of your feet - the very nature of citrus aromas mean that it isn't as potent or as long-lasting as other scents are. However, that's not to say that the fragrance is in any way weak.
Under the hot water, the uplifting chorus of orange oils fill the room - delivering warm bursts of fruity goodness that wakes up your senses and serves as perfect company during those early-morning work reservations. The fragrance elevates during the experience, and you can smell traces of this on your skin afterwards.
To lather, the size and shape of Thanks Dad means that it's a little difficult to generate much of a foam without putting some serious graft into it. Measuring roughly 6cm from edge to edge, this block of soap is on the small size, meaning that when you're massaging it between your palms, there is not necessarily enough surface area to create the friction needed to heed the lather.
However, a good trick to use with this soap is to place it in your palm, dribble a little water over the top, and then massage it across your hand while keeping it slightly cupped so that the trapped liquid creates more of a foam. When I did this, I generated enough lather to wash my body with and it was easy enough to then distribute it across the skin.
While Thanks Dad wasn't as drying as some of the other soaps I have tried from Lush, it did leave my hands feeling rather taut. However, this could be because of the fact that my skin doesn't always react well to these kind of products, and perhaps the glycerine removes much-needed moisture from my skin while it is in action.
Either way, the soap did leave my skin feeling clean, and after a week of using this religiously, it has hardly shrunk at all - making it great value for money. Overall, I left the shower feeling clean; my skin feeling crisp, and with a gentle orange aroma to see me through the next few hours.
While this only started out as a Spanish release, it is sure to be released across the globe, and I for one am happy that I invested a little extra to ensure that I got this soap earlier than expected. Now all they need to do is bring this out in a bath bomb format and I will be all over it like a rash.
