Pow Wow Lip Scrub

Lush have released many lip scrubs over the years, and it is only in the last year or so that I've managed to get my mitts on a handful of vegan ones. Pow Wow is one such lip scrub that I found wandering the empty listings on eBay, felt pity on it, and decided to give it a home amongst my vast Lush collection.

What first attracted me to this particular scrub was the inclusion of lime in the ingredients. I recognise that Lush create these products to remove dried skin and soften lips. However, my initial thoughts are always whether or not a particular scrub is in any way edible. After discovering edible Snow Fairy (Bubblegum Lip Scrub), I've since been on the look-out for other Lush products that I can digest. Strange I know, but I'm sure some of you cannot deny having licked a soap or two, just to see....

This scrub was first released as a festive product back in 2011, and is aimed at getting those lips smooth and noticeably softer for those 'mistletoe moments'. Featuring jojoba oil, rose hip oil and argan oil to moisturise and hydrate those lips, this scrub is a feast for those weathered-looking pouts. And as if this wasn't enough, Lush have also added in a combination of caffeine powder and ginseng root powder to stimulate the nerves in your lips and keep them feeling and looking fresh all night.

To give it that extra 'pop', the creator also included popping candy in the ingredients, which is supposed to snap, crackle and pop as soon as you begin to use this on your lips. Unfortunately, I didn't experience any these theatrics, although this could be to do with the fact that my pot of Pow Wow is not as fresh as it could be. 

What I did love about this scrub was it's scent and taste. The lime oil is definitely the dominating fragrance here, and mixed with the sugar, gives it a sweet and fruity smell that is both fresh and sexy; it's smell reminded me a lot of those old-fashioned chocolate lime sweets that I used to get as a child. Pow Wow's taste, although not really something that relevant to a cosmetic product, tastes lovely and reminds me of sherbet.

However, despite it's pleasant aroma, it didn't really work that well as a scrub. Firstly, what I noticed about this product, was that the pieces of sugar seemed a lot bigger than other Lush lip scrubs. This made it extremely difficult to apply to my lips, as the pieces tended to fall off and litter my floor. Secondly, the smaller, more manageable pieces, were rock solid, meaning that it was difficult to spread Pow Wow without making a mess and missing almost your entire mouth.

I understand that my tub may not be as fresh as it can be. However, having read other reviews, my concerns seem like problems that have happened to a lot of people, most of whom had these same issues with freshly made batches. 

Therefore, it's not a scrub I would buy again. On the positive side, if you do battle with the large chunks of sugar, you will find that it does leave your lips feeling soft, no doubt due to the many oils found in this product. However, it could do more to remove dried skin and seems like a lot of effort, for what is undoubtably, an unimpressive outcome.

Beautiful Pea Green Soap

Inspired by the journey of the Owl and the Pussy Cat, this soap - straight from the vault, is a marvel to look at. Sporting a kaffir lime leaf and a sprinkle of marigold flower petals on top, this translucent green chunk is supposed to mimic that of a pond, although thankfully it doesn't smell like this at all.

Released back in 1998, Beautiful Pea Green Soap is a product that you wouldn't necessarily make a bee-line for straight away, but one that wins over your heart's affections - a unique and very refreshing aroma unlike any other that I have tried from Lush before. 

From the ingredients list, the sandalwood and tangerine oil might convince you that this is a fruity soap - a statement that is not only incorrect, but one that doesn't do this soap justice at all, even if you were to focus on the fact that the product does have a few subtle citrusy elements to boast about. 

Sporting perhaps one of the mildest fragrances I have ever come across, I cannot imagine anyone taking a particular dislike to the smell. Even if you detest all of the ingredients featured here, they are so mild and inoffensive that it would be hard for you to truly pinpoint a reason for hating the soap because of its fragrance. 

To me, Beautiful Pea Green Soap has a very intense green aroma - one that replicates the scent of wet shrubbery on the side of a lake, or the smell of drying grass on a hot summer's day. It's a very refreshing, crisp smell with a sort of incensey element to it that comes from the inclusion of the Benzoin and the sandalwood. In the background there is a faint hint of tangerine, but it's very subtle and only heightens the deep green fragrance that makes up the main body of scent.

Unlike a lot of products, this soap doesn't tend to get any stronger when it comes into contact with the hot water, and I actually had to bring my nose right up close to the lather on my skin to get any sort of smell during my shower. As to be expected, this meant that the smell doesn't linger on your skin for very long, or if it does, it's too faint for you to detect it. 

Furthermore, this soap wasn't the easiest soap to lather up - producing quite a small amount of foam when massaged across the skin. I found it far more conducive to stimulate the lather between my hands and then apply this to my skin, although this did make my hands extremely dry after a while. 

While the lather was rather thick and deliciously creamy, and it did leave my skin feeling clean and clear after application, I wasn't overly impressed with the results I managed to yield from using this product. For this reason, Beautiful Pea Green Soap would not be a soap that I would buy again. Although it is not offensive in any way, it doesn't leave much of an impression either, and there are far more interesting shower products that I could be using instead.
