I'll be honest when I say that I was rather disappointed when Flying Fox Shower Gel secured a top five position in the Kitchen vote for new products. While I am a big advocate of Floating Flower Bath Bomb, and I enjoy the occasion spray of my dwindling Lust Liquid Perfume, I cannot say that I am a huge fan of the scent family all that much. In fact, I find myself rather indifferent to it most of the time.
As the shower gel contains honey, I have never had the opportunity to try it out for myself. However, my experience with the Lust family is extensive enough that I had a good idea what this body lotion would be like before I'd even received it in the post. As far as estimations go, I was rather accurate.
Flying Fox Body Lotion is for those who don't just like their jasmine, but instead want to drown themselves in a tsunami of the popular floral component. While Lush claim that the product contains ylang ylang, cypress and palmarosa oils as well, it is the jasmine that is at the forefront of the fragrance. And it is this note that makes the biggest impression on the skin as well.
From the tub, you can immediately detect the strong, sultry floral elements that make up the popular Lust scent. The jasmine offers a very heady and slightly sickly-sweet note - one that is supported by the subtle grassy undertones of the ylang ylang. There is something rather saturated about this aroma that makes it so unique, and I think the addition of the cypress oil also helps to bring forth an almost resinous, floral aroma.
If you are somebody who is opposed to strong scents, I would avoid any products in this scent family: this is definitely more suited to somebody looking for a full-bodied, jasmine experience. And while I think it's a little less in your face' than the likes of Godiva and Lust Liquid Perfume, it is still strong enough to knock you for six.
Interestingly, I found this lotion to be a little thinner than the likes of Calacas and Grass. Given that I assumed they had all been made from the same base ingredients, I was surprised to find that the lotion was not only thinner in consistency, but that it was a little easier to absorb into the skin. Furthermore, I found that this lotion didn't leave any white residue on the surface of the body, and seemed easier to massage across an area than the aforementioned products.
Once on the skin, I will admit that I didn't like the smell that it left at all. In fact, for the first five minutes, I found that the aroma radiating from my body was far too sweet for my liking. However, once the body lotion had settled down, I was able to appreciate that the floral components were not as potent as they began, and I enjoyed the rounded floral fragrance on my skin.
What I liked about Flying Fox Body Lotion was that my skin felt really smooth after application, and I didn't get that heavy feeling that I found with the body lotions mentioned above. In addition, I found that the lotion absorbed into the skin within the first ten minutes, so I didn't have to wait too long before I could get dressed and go about my day.
For this reason, this would be a great lotion to use as a 'top up' throughout the day, where you could reapply it if you felt your skin needed replenishing during a summer day. This lotion is also suited to those hotter moments, as the heat stimulates the different notes and brings out the fragrance for you to try over and over again. I was impressed that the scent stayed with me far longer than a lot of other lotions would, and I was still able to detect a faint note of jasmine a couple of hours after the initial application.
Overall, this body lotion was by no means terrible, but it's definitely not a scent that I would want to wear all of the time. Fans of Lust will no doubt appreciate lathering themselves up with this lotion, and those who fancy a jasmine binge will no doubt do the same. However, this is one I shall only continue using in small doses.

For those who have read a lot of my reviews on solid perfumes, you'll know that I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with them. While the premise behind their design is one that I stand by, and I love how long a 12g tub lasts when compared to the liquid counterpart. However, I don't think many of the solid perfumes have ever successfully replicated a liquid version of the same scent, and as I love my Lush fragrances, this is rather disappointing.
However, as far as solid perfumes go, Brightside is up there as being one of the best. Not only does it represent the scent of the original bubble bar well, but it has a fragrance that withstands a lot more than most of the other solid perfumes that I have tried. In fact, this is the first solid perfume in a long while that I've actually found myself wearing day in, day out.
What first impressed me about Brightside Solid Perfume is the well-rounded and very robust fragrance that greets you from the tin. Usually, when I sniff most of Lush's solid perfumes, I find that I can detect somewhat of a waxy layer underneath, that ruins the experience for me. Whereas liquid perfumes don't have this issue because of the format they're in, solid perfumes are always going to have to battle with these base-level smells, which is part of the reason that I don't enjoy them as much as their liquid counterparts.
Despite this, Brightside is perhaps one of the most successful solid perfumes to date. Although I wouldn't say that it smells exactly like the bubble bar, there are enough traits here to make it recognisable. Having said that, out of this and the body lotion format, I actually believe that this has a closer connection to the bubble bar scent, and here's why.
Just like the bubble bar, this solid perfume contains mandarin, tangerine and bergamot oils. Upon opening the lid, you can detect all three of these from the start - each layer intertwined with the others to create a warm, fresh and very fruity aroma.
It is both the mandarin and the tangerine that gives off the strongest threads here - offering a refreshing, juicy burst of citrusy goodness that smells very natural and sweet. The bergamot oil adds a subtle layer of what I can only describe as smelling of 'green', which is the the component that I think is what gives this perfume its longevity on the skin.
As I mentioned above, this solid perfume doesn't smell identical to the bubble bar: I think the format difference doesn't allow it to be as sherbety or as strong. In fact, there is a small part of my senses that sees a resemblance between this and The Sun Solid Perfume, in some small way. However, I can definitely detect the magic of The Brightside shining through here, and fans of the bubble bar will no doubt appreciate what I mean by this.
What is impressive about this solid perfume is that normally smells of this calibre don't tend to last that long on the skin. Citrusy, fruity aromas tend to disperse fairly quickly, when exposed to the air. However, this one works with the warmth of your skin for a good couple of hours before it has fully faded and needs a top up.
For those unfamiliar with solid perfumes, there are many ways that you can utilise them, and Brightside is no exception. The primary use is as a perfume - massaging a little into your pulse points and allowing the warmth of your skin to stimulate the notes and leave you smelling wonderful. Although not as potent as a liquid perfume, solids are great to 'top up' a smell throughout the day, although they can be used by themselves.
Sometimes I even massage a little into the ends of my hair and use them as hair perfumes. I find that the hair tends to hold the smell longer than it does on the skin, and you'll stimulate a burst of fruity goodness every time your hair is caught by a breeze. My hair has even been known to benefit from this practice as the waxes and oils add a little moisture to my split ends and leaves them shiny.
Ultimately, The Brightside is as wonderful as fans of the fragrance would want it to be. While I know it'll be far more successful in liquid format, this is a good product to have until that dream is made a reality. Fruity, fresh and fun: this solid perfume is just in time to see the summer arrive, and Lush fans will be much better for it.

There's an age-old saga of waiting exceptionally long for a bus, only for three to come along at once. As someone who is not normally impressed by many of Lush's solid perfumes, I was both surprised and excited to discover that two of the voted-for editions were not only good - they were really good.
Grass Solid Perfume is perhaps the one that impressed me the most - not only because the scent really suits this format, more so than most of the solid perfumes I have experienced in my life - but because the smell is everything you would want and expect from the name. Fans of Grass Shower Gel are going to love this.
Aside from the lack of wheatgrass in the ingredients list, the solid perfume shares the same traits as the aforementioned gel. Sandalwood, bergamot and neroli oils have been blended together to create this limited edition, and you can detect all three of these really well from the tub.
From the start, the sandalwood makes a big impression on your senses. You can smell the dry, woody aroma as the top note, and I think it is the inclusion of this that makes the fragrance both very grounding, as well as helping to aid its impressive longevity on the skin. The neroli is what gives Grass its signature 'grassy' scent - offering a honeyed and somewhat metallic green note; while the bergamot adds a very sweet, sharp, citric aroma to boot.
Together, you get a fragrance that replicates the scent of grass perfectly. It smells like both wet and dried grass combined, with an element of folliage on top. What I love about this perfume is that not only does the scent last for a good two to three hours on the skin - which is a long time for a solid perfume - but the smell changes into more of a sweet, crisp grass aroma over time. It's a little bit more like the bubble bar, in that sense.
For those unfamiliar with solid perfumes, there are multiple ways that you can utilise them.
For someone who isn't a huge fan of the Grass scent, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this solid perfume. Both its longevity on the skin, and the actual fragrance it gives off is both true to the shower gel and impressive enough that it makes a lasting impression. Again, I would definitely have preferred this in a liquid format. However, I feel as if this would have been far heavier and perhaps not as sweet as this variation. This is definitely a solid perfume I recommend, and Grass fans will not be left disappointed.

Dare I say it: Sex Bomb Bath Bomb is one of my least favourite products from Lush. Despite the name and the novelty around Valentine's Day, I cannot understand why it is so popular, and how it has managed to secure itself a place in the regular line while others have been discontinued. It is by no means a bad-smelling ballistic, just one that doesn't evoke any sort of reaction from me.
For this reason, when the Kitchen announced that they would be bringing out a body lotion and solid perfume in this scent, I cannot say I was all that excited about it. Even when it arrived, it was pushed aside for the likes of Grass and The Brightside, and it wasn't until a couple of days later that I decided to venture into my parcel and pull out Sex Bomb Body Lotion to use for the first time.
What impressed me the most about this limited edition, was that I found the scent suited this format more than the bath bomb itself. There was something about the subtlety of this body lotion that really hit it off with me immediately, and I found myself turning to this product far more times than I would have expected.
Containing a combination of clary sage and ylang ylang oil, jasmine absolute and synthetic musk, Sex Bomb Body Lotion is a light, sensual floral smell, with elements of cloudy sweetness to boot. From the tub you get the gentle herbal properties of the clary sage, which almost gives this lotion a certain refreshing
appeal about it. This, along with the delicate notes from the ylang ylang, gives this lotion a natural floral smell that I would describe as being 'pretty'. Finally, there is a light layer of musk over the top of both of these - one that draws all of the elements together and adds a gentle sweetness to the lotion as well.
On the skin, I found that the lotion was of a medium consistency - not as thick as the likes of Calacas, but not as thin as the popular Karma Kream Body Lotion. This meant that the body lotion absorbed into the skin rather quickly, and it was really easy to massage it across the skin without leaving any residue behind. Furthermore, I found that I didn't need to use very much to coat my whole body, and so a 240g tub would last longer than some other lotions.
Once on the skin, Sex Bomb continues to offer the same notes of floral and sweetness for a good hour after application. I came to really appreciate how light and refreshing the scent was on my skin, and how the subtle components were all there, without being overpowering. What I found rather interesting was that there seemed to a little note of cocoa butter on my skin as well - something that I didn't find with any of the other body lotions being released at the same time. While it is not very strong at all, and most people won't be able to detect it after the first 5-10 minutes, I quite appreciated the extra layer of scent to carry around with me.
As with most of Lush's body lotions, this one got to work at moisturising my skin, and I found that my skin looked radiant, and felt far plumper and healthier, after using Sex Bomb Body Lotion. In addition, the lightness of the lotion meant that I was able to use it before heading out into the sun, and I didn't feel weighed down as I did with some of the aforementioned releases.
As I was expecting to dislike this body lotion to begin with, I was both surprised and amazed to find myself dipping into this pot nearly every single day. In fact, I chose to take this product to school with me, so I could use it whenever I needed a top up, and found that I didn't need to use it very often because of how effective it was.
While I wouldn't rush out to buy another tub of this any time soon - most notably because there are other body lotions that I appreciate a lot more, this is definitely one I would consider buying again in the future. I also happen to think that this would make a very popular regular-line product, and perhaps this is something we can expect to see at some point in the stores.

It's hardly surprising that Calacas came out on top in the voting pole for smells that consumers want to see in more formats. Despite the multiple bath bombs, shower gels and jellies, perfumes and soaps that share this scent, the simple fruity fragrance is one of Lush's most popular inventions, and fans will clamber to get their hands on absolutely anything with the same smell.
While I cannot deny that it is one of my all-time favourites as well, there is a small part of me that wishes a lesser prominent product had won - simply because the Calacas range is already highly saturated, and it would have been nice to experience something a little different instead. Having said that, I cannot deny that my small tub of Calacas Body Lotion has been well and truly dipped into over the last couple of days, and to say it is any less than what I was hoping for, would be a rather unfair statement.
Unlike the Brightside Body Lotion, I was actually initially disappointed when I experienced my first sniff of this limited edition. While it is Calacas through and through from the get-go, I found that this lotion is definitely not as spritely, nor as fruity as the shower gel or jelly that I know and love.
Don't get me wrong: the fresh, citrusy lime smell that we all know and love is definitely there, and fans of Calacas will be able to appreciate their favourite scent in this format. However, there is something slightly reserved about the fragrance in the tub. I almost feel as if the base ingredients stop the smell from being as elevated as it is in other formats; as if there's a cap on the scent and it's not quiet as long-lasting as it's known to be in other products.
Much like The Brightside, this lotion is rather thick to apply, and you really need to massage it into the skin well to ensure that you're not left with any residue on the surface afterwards. Once applied to the body, you will then need to give the product a good ten to fifteen minutes to be absorbed, as the lotion tends to leave a mild stickiness on the surface for a short while.
What is great about Calacas Body Lotion is that it's really effective at helping to improve the condition of your skin in a very short space of time. Immediately after applying this, my skin looked so much more radiant, and it also felt so incredibly nourished and replenished. Given the nature of the consistency, I felt as if the various oils really got to work at absorbing themselves, and I was left with firmer, plumper skin to see me through the day.
On the other hand, just like the other body lotions featured in this release, I do feel as if this lotion may be a little too heavy to use during those scorching-hot, summer days. After applying this mid-morning, I could feel how heavy the lotion felt whilst on my body, and when the sun began to break me out in a little sweat, I did feel uncomfortable with the lotion so prominent on my skin.
Furthermore, I'm going to be honest and say that I was a little disappointed with how the smell of the lotion developed on my skin over time. Already slightly less wholesome than it is in shower gel and jelly format, I found that the fragrance wasn't as powerful as I was expecting, and the scent all but dissipated within the first twenty minutes of application.
Don't get me wrong: the smell of this lotion is super zesty and fans of Calacas will no doubt love smearing themselves with their favourite lime-dominated aroma. However, given how fickle citrusy smells can be in certain formats, I just feel as if this body lotion isn't as exciting as I was expecting it to be. Perhaps I'm being a little harsh, because there is nothing particularly bad about this body lotion at all. Having said that, I just feel as if the fragrance could have been a little bit more robust, but perhaps that's the nature of working with such a simplistic smell to begin with.
Given the lightness of the aroma, you would expect this lotion to be more in line with Karma Kream, consistency wise. For this reason, it makes a welcome change that the lotion is far thicker than I as expecting it to be. Despite a few negative points, this is a really lovely lotion and one I will continue to use throughout the hotter months of the year. Calacas fans will no doubt really appreciate this new addition to the family,

There are times when I have a real craving for Grass-scented products: I cannot get enough of its unique smell, which I consider to be one of Lush's most exquisite inventions to date. However, there are also times when the bottle of shower gel lays stagnant on my bedroom shelf for months at a time, collecting dust.
When it was first announced that Grass Body Lotion was going to be made a reality, I was in two minds. While I enjoy using the shower gel, especially in the warmer months of the year, I find that both the shampoo bar and the Bubble Bar have a more pleasing aroma. My nose detects less of a sandalwood thread in both of these products, so they're not as heavy as the original shower gel, and therefore more grass-like.
With such a small selection of products in this fragrance, I was unsure whether or not the body lotion would be more like the shampoo bar and bubble bar, or closer in scent to the shower gel. As it turned out, I think the lotion is far closer in scent to the latter product, and was far more robust than I was initially expecting.
Firstly, I happen to think that the fragrance is very much suited to this format. Much like the shower gel, I feel as if the different components that make up the smell have a lot of room to showcase their capabilities in the body lotion. Despite the addition of the base ingredients to ensure that this lotion actually moisturises and softens the skin, not one of the key ingredients is lost on the senses.
From the start, I was able to detect the layer of sandalwood at the forefront of everything. This offered a grassy, woody aroma, and helped to give the lotion a deep and very grounded overall smell. The addition of both the bergamot and the neroli oils also played key parts in the scent - giving Grass Body Lotion what I would describe as a rich, sultry but very green-smelling grassy aroma. If you love Grass Shower Gel, I can guarantee that you will be besotted with this limited edition product. It is everything you would expect the body lotion to be, and more.
As with all of the other limited edition body lotions featured in this exclusive release, Grass is a rather thick lotion - on par with the likes of Sympathy For The Skin and Lemony Flutter. This means that you need to use very little during application, and once it's on the skin, you will need to massage it in until it has been fully absorbed.
Given the consistency, you may find that this lotion takes a little more effort to manipulate across the body, and once it has been applied, you will need to give your skin enough time to utilise the butters and oils properly before putting clothes over the top. Furthermore, I found that once the lotion was on the skin, you were aware of it being there for a good hour afterwards, so those who dislike the heavier lotions may wish to avoid this one.
Having said that, my skin did feel conditioned and replenished immediately upon application, and this feeling stayed with me for the entire day. Packed full of cocoa butter to smoothen, soften and nourish the skin, it not only helped to support and strengthen the colour of my tan, but visibly reduced dry-looking skin and left my skin feeling really healthy and vibrant.
Unlike The Brightside Body Lotion, the fragrance of Grass Body Lotion stayed with me for a good hour or two after application, and I found that it was more present in the warmer weather - where I would get bouts of fragrance throughout the day, from the heat of the sun bouncing off of my skin.
Overall, while I would never claim that Grass is a favourite scent of mine, I do really appreciate how wonderfully natural and unique the smell is. For fans of the shower gel, you'll be pleased to discover that this does replicate the smell incredibly well, and I think that this is perhaps my favourite format in this fragrance. A wonderfully refreshing and grassy body lotion to see you through the summer months.

It took me a matter of seconds to fall head over heels in love with The Brightside Bubble Bar for the first time, and a similar time frame to feel a heavy disappointment settling over the fact that it was only going to be available for a limited amount of time. When Lush later announced that it was being made a permanent member of their family, the elation I felt was a little higher than I should probably care to admit.
If there is one thing I love about Lush, it's their ability to turn many of their most lovable scents into an array of different formats: each one offering something a little different to the other products that have come before it, while still retaining the original essence that made you fall in love with the fragrance in the first place.
When Brightside was announced as one of the five body lotions coming out during the 'voted for' week, I was ecstatic. While I was slightly disappointed that a shower gel wasn't heeded from the results, I couldn't deny that the mere thought of having anything new in this format was enough to keep me happy. With summer just around the corner, I felt as if it was the perfect time to bring out something so bright and uplifting to use.
As I was expecting, the lotion sold itself to me immediately from the tub: the familiar collaboration of mandarin, bergamot and tangerine drifting up my nose the second the lid was removed. I won't deny that I spent a good five minutes soaking in the fragrance - my nose so far into the pot that I left multiple imprints on the surface as I was doing so.
For fans of The Brightside, the scent of this is everything you could ask for. Thick and wholesomely fruity, this lotion is bursting with the bright, uplifting citrusy aromas that you would expect. Perhaps slightly less zesty than the Bubble Bar, this body lotion smells like a fruity yoghurt or a freshly-made orange torte.
The citrus elements of this body lotion are natural-smelling and mouth-wateringly good; the bergamot adding almost a slight 'twang' of green to the aroma as well. This latter component makes itself known a little more on the skin, where it offers something not unlike the tartness you get from the pith of an orange. Furthermore, there is a very subtle hint of cocoa butter, once the lotion has been applied, and this gives Brightside Body Lotion a delicate wholesome appeal when in use.
The product itself is one of Lush's most thickest lotions. A little like Sympathy For The Skin, Brightside has to be really moisturised in, to ensure that you're not left with any residue on the surface. Once applied to the skin, you will need to give the product a good ten to fifteen minutes to be absorbed, as the lotion tends to leave a mild stickiness on the surface for a short while.
On the positive side, this limited edition is really effective at immediately helping your skin to look and feel so much better. My body looked instantly more radiant upon application, and my skin also felt quite plump and full. For someone who forgets to moisturise a lot of the time, this would be a fantastic lotion to use a couple of times a week, to offer the skin a deep, nourishing session and replenish some of the moisture that may have been lost. For this reason, the lotion would be great for the summer months, when the scorching sun can leave your skin needing some serious replenishing.
Given the nature of this lotion however, some people may find that it will be a little too much to use during the hotter days. As the lotion is fairly heavy, sweating while adorning Brightside may leave you feeling even stickier than usual, and so I would suggest that this is a lotion to wear overnight. Having tried this for the last few days, I found that this body lotion really improves the condition of your skin, and helps it to retain moisture throughout the day. However, using it overnight meant that I was able to go without a lotion during the day, while still possessing beautiful, clear, radiant skin.
As if that wasn't enough, The Brightside also helped to elevate the base tan that I have been working on, and I received a number of compliments from colleagues about the lovely shade of colour I had on my arms.
The only negative aspect that I found about this body lotion was that the scent didn't seem to last that long once on the skin. In fact, unless your nose is highly sensitive, you probably won't be able to detect this much after the first hour of application. This is where a Brightside Liquid Perfume would be the perfect remedy to keep the fragrance going.
Overall, I am very happy that Lush have chosen to bring this out as a limited edition. This is one of my favourite fruity aromas, and I'm always appreciative of new formats in which to experience these smells. I will definitely be buying myself another tub of this in the future, and I can only hope that more cosmetics in this fragrance make an appearance in the near future.
