Yog Nog Soap

Over the years, Lushies have been fighting a constant battle to stop themselves from consuming the very products that have been designed to work on their bodies - not their appetites. I can guarantee that if I interviewed a handful of regular customers, there would be at least one person who had licked a massage bar or found themselves nibbling on the corner of a soap. And that's just the ones who would openly admit to it...

Lush are forever bringing out beautiful looking products that could almost be mistaken for food, and if you're one of those who have been sitting precariously on the edge of 'is that food/is that soap?', I can guarantee that this next product will knock you over the edge.

Yog Nog Soap is a product that makes your lips quiver and your mouth salivate. To look at, you wouldn't be wrong to mistake it for a slice of cake, as it doesn't look that far off of the Tiramisu cakes I see in high-end bakery windows. With the dusting of cocoa powder on the top for decoration, you can see why us dessert-loving fans wouldn't be tempted to take a bite.
While Lush fans have been stating that this soap shares it's scent with Eggsnog Lip Balm, I would disagree and say it's a lot more like Butterball or Popcorn Lip Scrub than anything else - but even then, the scent doesn't match either of those products one-hundred per-cent.
Made from an impressive array of skin-softening ingredients, this soap is a feast for the body. Rapeseed and coconut oil work as the base for the soap and the latter ingredient offers itself slightly in the overall aroma of the product; soya yoghurt helps to make this soap super moisturising and means that when a chunk comes into contact with water, it creates a wonderful thick and creamy lather to smooth over your body. Rich in antioxidants, the soya yoghurt also nourishes and repairs dry and damaged skin, so perfect for the foreseeable cold weather.

While I was a little confused about the inclusion of ylang ylang in the ingredients list, I realise that this ingredient gives the soap a slight sweetness to it which compliments the spices wonderfully. With both clove bud oil and nutmeg powder, this soap finishes up by offering a beautiful festive aroma that you want to enjoy again and again.

To me, the soap smells like a combination of burnt vanilla, freshly made buttery fudge and creamy cocoa butter. It's wonderfully sweet without being too sickly or in the least bit synthetic-smelling. In the shower, the fragrance comes into full force and you really have to fight the urge to not lick the bar whilst you're using it.

Under the running water, Yog Nog lathers up really quickly and produces an abundance of thick, creamy foam that coats the skin and glides over your body with ease. While this bar is slightly softer than other Lush soaps and produces an impressive amount of lather, I was surprised to find that it's fairly stubborn when it comes to shrinkage. I have used this three days running now and my flatmates have also given it a whirl, and my 100g slice has barely changed shape at all.

While a lot of soaps tend to dry my skin out, this one was really gentle - so much so that I used it on my face as well and I was really impressed with how  soft and nourished it felt afterwards. What's even more impressive is that the wonderful aroma lingers on your skin for hours afterwards and I received a number of comments from members of the public about my 'perfume'.

This is the perfect indulgence for those who want to lavish their skin and enjoy a festive aroma at the same time. It's a gorgeous soap and one that I'll be sure to stock up on before the seasonal goodies disappear. Although I was initially upset that Lush didn't bring back Angel's Delight this year, and while this soap doesn't offer anything similar in the way of scent, this is a good replacement until I can get my hands on my favourite festive soap once again.

  1. Does soap on the pictures weigh 100g?

  2. Hi Jen, out of Snowcake and YogNog, which would you say was the most moisturising? Snowcake is a tried and tested favourite but I like the sound of YogNog. I only have enough cash to buy one, so which would you pick? Thanks in advance!

  3. I would say that Yog Nog is more moisturising - while I prefer the smell of Snowcake slightly, Yog Nog instantly makes your skin feel super soft :)

  4. Hi :) Just wondering, does Snowcake smell anything like the Smitten hand lotion? I know they both have a marzipan scent [I think I'm remembering that correctly] so I was just curious. I've never tried Snowcake but I know it's a popular soap so I'm excited to try it!

    1. They are the same scent family so they do indeed smell alike - I always thought that Snowcake was very slightly sweeter, especially when it comes into contact with the warmth of your shower, but they are from the same fragrance family. I hope this helps :)

  5. Thanks Jen, you definitely helped. I'm on the fence about Smitten... some days I like it and some days I don't. I gave in and bought Snow cake though... I just couldn't pass up the chance to try it lol, along with one of everything else in the Christmas and Halloween line!!

  8. Hey.

Yog nog totally reminds me of Vanilla in the mist. Just a little more spice and more moisterizing.

  9. Hey Jen,

I have a piece of Yog Nog and a piece of Snow Cake from Christmas 2015 and both say that they expired last month! Obviously I'm devastated - what does it actually mean when Lush soaps have expired?

    Thanks :)

    1. Hey lovely! Don't worry about the expiry dates on the soaps - they don't actually normally have any - are you sure that's not the date they were made? From experience, Lush soaps last amazingly well a good 6 months to a year after they've been purchased. Keep using both - it wont have any damaging effects at all!

    2. Thank you so much for getting back to me. No, they are definitely expiration dates as I purchased them in December and they are both January 2016 dates.

I will definitely continue to use them then! I just wanted to ensure they would still work just as well. Thanks again :)

  10. Have you tried the new spice curls soap? I was just wondering if it was similar to Yog Nog as I loved that one but haven't seen anything like it in a while. If not, do you know any products similar to yog nog?
