Dream Time Luxury Bath Oil

As someone who has tried an awful lot of Lush products over the last three to four years, I am normally far more excited about any new products that make an appearance - as opposed to old ones resurfacing in the kitchen. More often than not I have already tried the retro products that are released, so they hardly ever appeal to me unless they're one of my favourite products.

However, on a recent visit to the Oxford Street store, I decided to pick up a couple of the newly designed Dream Time Bath Oils and discovered, much to my enthusiasm, that they were even better than the original - something that I've been experiencing a lot when it comes to the reformulated bubble bars released recently from Lush.
Unlike the aforementioned bath items, this reformulated and revamped bath oil is completely unrecognisable from the old design. Firstly, whereas the original was an uninteresting white cuboid about 5cm in length, the new design is much smaller - sporting a vivid purple demeanour with the letter 'Z' etched on the surface and decorated in golden lustre.

Secondly, on the surface (pun intended), this £2 bath oil is seemingly more expensive than the older version - with a price difference of a little over £1 when looking at weight/size and usage. While the original could be spread across 2-3 baths, I'd say that that this is a single-use product, although I know that some may argue that it could easily be halved and used across two baths.

Having said that, what I love about the new design is that its easy enough to throw in the bath - you don't have to worry about storing chunks of it for later, and the experience you get with this one allows you to enjoy it by itself, rather than having to add in other products if you want some colour in your bath.
Furthermore, this bath oil is so much more attractive in the tub. Upon contact with the water, Dream Time immediately begins to melt and distribute puddles of silvery purple and pink oil, laced with golden lustre, across the surface. While these puddles don't seem to dissolve by themselves very easily, if you swish your hand around, the oils tend to mix with the water and give you a light purple-coloured bath.

Unfortunately, one issue I found with this bath oil, and the sole reason why it hasn't been rated a six out of six, is that while it doesn't stain you or leave you feeling at all greasy, I did find that the tub was left with a purple smudge after the water had been drained - an outcome that spoiled my experience a little as I had to give the bath a quick clean afterwards.

Despite this negative attribute, I happen to think that this bath oil is a little stronger in scent to that of its older brother. Designed to help soothe the mind, relax the body and ease aches and pains, Dream Time releases a blend of fragrances to leave you feeling well-rested and ready for bed.

Featuring chamomile blue and lavender oils to induce sleepiness, these both make up the strongest elements of the aroma - offering a natural and very distinctive lavender scent with a gentle, crisp and slightly medicinal note from the chamomile underneath. At the same time, elements of the ginger oil add a warming note and help to ease tired muscles; sandalwood offering up a very gentle woody scent and acting as an anti-depressant to lift your spirit while you're bathing.

Together, these ingredients help to soothe sensitive skin and leave you feeling as soft as a baby, while offering an aroma that is very much present throughout the whole experience but one that isn't overly strong for those who dislike pungent smells.
Furthermore, the inclusion of the cocoa and shea butters gives you a really moisturising experience and add a creamy element to the scent. While the bath melt is not as greasy as You've Been Mangoed and Star Light Star Bright can be, it's definitely a little oilier than most of the spherical bath oils that I have tried so far. It's a little hard to describe but I could feel that the water was slightly thicker without being sticky or unpleasant.

Overall, I really love Dream Time and will be purchasing more of these in the future - to use by itself as well as pairing it with the likes of Golden Slumbers or Twilight for a sleep-inducing experience in the bath tub. A top-rated addition to the Lush family.
