Silver Bells Shower Jelly

Sometimes it's nice to shake things up at bit and be faced with a product that doesn't follow any trend, and certainly doesn't sit right with you during the initial few uses. Silver Bells Shower Jelly definitely set me back quite a bit when I first caught a sniff of the brand new seasonal offering, and I cannot say I have quite mastered whether or not I really like it just yet.

As its name suggests, this Christmas special is a silver-coloured jelly that has been carefully crafted to form the shape of a bell. Given the very nature of its design, it does come in a little smaller than the usual 100g shower jellies, and there is something slightly more delicate about this one that I haven't found with the normal jellies.

What I found with Silver Bells is that the base part does tend to 'shred' a little during usage, so you may find that little bits of the jelly fall off during your shower. However, there isn't enough loss to worry about this factor too much, and I would suggest just being a little more gentle with the shower jelly will heed much better results.

On the positive side, this shower jelly is incredibly easy to lather up, and I was most impressed with the amount of fragrant foam that I was able to get from minimal massaging between my palms. When rubbing this across the skin, the shower jelly works magic at cleaning your body and leaving a lasting scent on your skin. In fact, this is perhaps one of the most effective jellies that I have used in a while.


Scent-wise, Silver Bells is definitely an acquired taste. Containing olibanum, lime and orange oils, you might assume that this shower jelly would offer a bright, fruity aroma - like many of the other Christmas goodies available from this year's range. However, the fragrance of this one is supposed to replicate the aroma of the Inhale Perfume Oil, which is an aroma that many might find difficult to adjust to.


To my nose, the smell that greets me from the pot is a fresh, crisp smell, that like for many other people, reminds me of a snowy winter morning out in the forest. The olibanum brings about an almost woody but slightly resinous note, whilst the lime and orange offer a very dry and slightly green-like citrusy note alongside this. I would go ahead and say that there is something delicately herbal about this aroma as well, although I cannot pinpoint exactly where this note might be coming from. 

There is no way that I would describe the smell of this as being at all fruity or warming. It's a very grounded, natural aroma that has a cooling note that you could almost describe as being like the smell of a Galia melon. It's sweet in the way that the aforementioned fruit is, so nothing like any of the citrus smells that the company are offering in multiple other products.

What I will say about Silver Bells is that is works wonderfully as a shower jelly: lathering up with ease and produce super softening foam to massage across your skin. The inclusion of the black sesame seed milk is perhaps what makes it so moisturising, as you can really feel as smooth and shiny it leaves your skin after you've rinsed the suds away. 

Despite it's slightly delicate nature, and the fact that it is minutely smaller than the regular 100g jellies, this product has barely shrunk across the two weeks I have been using it, which makes the price tag seem a little more reasonable than I originally thought.

Ultimately, this is one of those rare products that is either going to inspire you to buy the shop out of tubs before the season is over, or to hold your nose and run a million miles in the opposite direction. It stands out in the Christmas range this year and I feel very privileged that I have had the opportunity to try one out for size. 

I will definitely continue to use this regularly over the winter season. However, I also intend to save it for the summer months so I can appreciate how its cool, crisp nature will refresh my skin after a hot day out in the sun. Silver Bells is a much welcomed new product to the seasonal range this year.

Fly Me To The Moon Amazeball

I'm beginning a very transitional period in my life at the moment so the idea of 'flying to the moon' sounds like a good next step to take. Perhaps a few months up there would be a good opportunity to heal myself enough to feel grounded once more on planet earth, when I return. Unfortunately, nipping to the moon for a vacation just isn't exactly possible at the moment, so the bathe bomb equivalent will have to do.

Fly Me To The Moon Amazeball is not only big in nature but it also happens to be rather large when it comes to the price as well. £8.50 for a single-used item is not exactly something that everybody will willingly want to invest in, let alone afford. For this reason, it needs to offer something rather impressive to convince consumers to part with their hard-earned cash. 

What is rather beautiful about this seasonal special is the gentle hue of lustre that coats the surface and adds a shimmer both before use, and once it's fully dissolved into the water. There is something rather delicately gorgeous about the subtle glimmer across the water during the experience - one that is perhaps more suited to those who dislike too much 'glitter' in their bath tub. 

As with a few other 'Amazeballs' in the Christmas range, this one features a removal lid. Despite it appearing slightly bigger in size than the average bath bomb, it actually happens to be hollow, with just a large dosage of white sugar crystals filling the 'empty' space inside. For this reason, it's a little on the delicate side and does need to be packed well to travel from the factory to your doorstep. If you're thinking of giving this one as a gift, you may wish to think how you're going to preserve it's shape, whilst also ensuring you don't spill its contents as well. 

Containing lime and sweet orange oils as the key ingredients, with a generous helping of olibanum resinoid underneath, this bath bomb is sweet, fruity scent that compliments the Never Mind The Ballistics fragrance nicely. While very similar, and many consumers have claimed that it was purposely designed to replicate the smell, I do feel as if there are some differences that set it apart. 

This bath bomb is perhaps a little less wholesome in scent, as in it smells a little more 'dispersed' than the aforementioned bath bomb, and the most recent Bam! Shower Slime. However, there is something very juicy yet equally as rich and sultry about Fly Me To The Moon that hits the spot without a doubt.

When Fly Me To The Moon first hit the water, I loved the fact that it produced a really thick, creamy foam around the base of the product. As soon as I let it go, it tipped to the side and began to spill its contents out into the water, which create a very fast and expansive white and purple foam that coated the surface of the tub. At the same time, the lid sent out a vibrant shade of purple that interspersed with the wave of white and created a thick blanket of colour.

What is interesting about this bath bomb is that you can actually choose to tip the inner contents of the product into the water first, most notably when the water is still running. Supposedly, the powder has the same properties of a bubble bar so you should be able to stimulate some bubbles before unleashing the bath bomb into the water to add colour afterwards. While I didn't try this out with Fly Me To The Moon, I did experiment with one of the other Amazeballs that Lush are currently offering and found that they do indeed produce some fluffy bubbles to accompany you in the bath tub.

The best part about this bath bomb was just how much creamy foam spread out across the water, which once fully dispersed, helped to create a wonderfully soft and moisturising bathing experience. My skin felt incredibly nourished and smooth after bathing with one of these, and the scent remained on my skin for a short while after towelling myself down. 

This Christmas beauty left the water a beautiful shade of pastel pink, with a gentle lustre hue under the water to add a little luxury to the experience. My mood was elevated and my skin felt simply beautiful afterwards, not to mention the fact that the fragrance was present throughout the whole experience, and stayed on my skin afterwards.

While I'd still maintain that this the price of this is perhaps a little more than I would comfortably hand over for an average bath bomb, the fact that this is limited edition means that it's definitely worth investing in at least once. As a present, this would definitely be a welcome gift, and does help to wash away the cold weather with its beautiful smell and presence.

Thunderbolt FUN Bar

When faced with a handful of brand new Lush items, there are two options to choose from: save the best to last and savour every minute of it when you finally rekindle yourself with a new favourite; or jump headfirst into using it first because why would you want to wait? Usually I fall into the former category through choice, as I like the idea of there being a light at the end of a very extravagant tunnel. However, this time around I fell into using my favourite product last simply because I hadn't done enough research to learn that it would in fact become my favourite product.

One of eleven exclusive FUN bars that are currently only available from the Liverpool store, Thunderbolt sports a gorgeous neon yellow design that guarantees to brighten up any shower in need of a little colour. However, what makes this FUN Bar so incredible is the fragrance that it offer... 

Sharing its scent with Never Mind The Ballistics Bath Bomb, this isn't the first time we have seen this fragrance used as a FUN Bar. Last Christmas saw perhaps my favourite product of the season, Festive Friends FUN, offer the exact same aroma to customers around the world, and it was clearly popular enough that Lush have brought it back as a permanent member of the Liverpool store.

This stunning fluorescent beauty offers a gorgeously fruity combination of orange and lime oils that'll have you salivating from the moment that you first begin using it. These two components are super bright and citrusy, while the inclusion of the olibanum oils adds an extra layer of sweetness that just curbs the tanginess of the fruit oils and allows them to be more rounded and warming.

There is something about this particular aroma that I feel actually works better as a FUN bar than a bath bomb and I only hope that we see other shower-related products made with a matching fragrance. All I will say is that the smell of Thunderbolt will brighten up even the darkest of mornings and send you to bed with the feel of sunshine on your skin.

As with all of the other FUN bars that Lush offer, this one is versatile in how you use it and does a great job in each role. Firstly, this is a great replacement for either your shower jelly, soap or gel. Simply take a small piece (about the size of a grape), wet it under the shower hose and massage it directly across your body. The bar foams up a treat and produces an impressive amount of light, fluffy lather that can be distributed across your skin with ease.

Just like Lush's shower gels, this bar leaves your skin really clean and with a super fruity fragrance to accompany you for a short while after you've towelled yourself down. While it's not as moisturising as the gels and jellies, I don't find FUN bars to be as drying on the skin as soap can be, even though they don't offer the complex scents you'd expect with Lush soaps.  

Secondly, FUN can be used in much the same way as a bubble bar: crumbling a small piece under the running tap to produce some bubbles as part of a cocktail. What I will say is that you don't get much more than just a light shade of yellow in the water when using this particular one and it's definitely not as moisturising as an actual bubble bar. However, it cocktails well with any of Lush's fruity bath bombs and yet manages to retain its scent alongside these in the water.

Much like I've stated in all of my reviews, you will need to consider how to store this product between uses, as it has a tendency to leave a sticky mess on any side it is left, if wet. While I love the fact that it's not in pot so it saves on packaging, you will need to keep this FUN Bar cool and dry in between showers. I would suggest breaking off a few pieces and storing them in a pot, away from any possible running water, as this will prolong the life of the bar. 

Ultimately, if I had access to this as a permanent feature in stores and online, I would perhaps use this FUN more than any of the other jellies/gels and FUN Bars on offer: yes, it really is that delicious. To be honest, to even consider that this may come out in a shower gel format once day completely blows my mind. If you're someone who loves Lush's bright, fruity and uplifting scents, you'll no doubt love this one, and I only hope it becomes more readily available in the near future.

Time Traveller FUN Bar

During the Halloween season last year, Lush unleashed a handful of a brand new FUN Bar called Witches' Cauldron, which was the first of its kind: a beautiful little tube with a normal sized bar of fun and three little miniature bath bombs to use if and as you please. This year Lush have created another rendition called Time Traveller, which has now become an exclusive for the Liverpool store.

Sharing its scent with Calacas, this highly colourful bar of cornflour offers a bright and fruity lime scent, with a wonderful thread of bergamot underneath to give the fragrance a little 'greenery' as well. Fans of the popular smell will appreciate that its transferred well into this format, and smells more of less identical to that of the Calacas Shower Gel.

Much like with Witches' Cauldron, this FUN bar was slightly harder than any of the other bars I had been using at the same time, which made me appreciate how easy this was to break a small piece off with each use, and how well it functioned in the shower as well.

I only needed a piece the size of half a penny to wash my whole body with in the shower, and even then I think I could have got away with using even less. Massaging it between my hands with a little water heeded an impressive amount of light and fragrant bubbly lather, and it was super easy to transfer across to my skin. Upon rinsing the product away, I found that the aroma stayed with my skin for a short while, and the soft feeling that the FUN Bar created lingered around for a good many hours later.

To use in the shower, you simply have to break off a little of the bar, add a little moisture and then massage across your skin. The FUN produces a colourful, soapy foam to wash with and is easy enough to use. Use too much however, and you’ll find large sticky chunks will be littering the floor of your shower, which then needs to be washed away with the water. 

The three little bath bombs that came alongside the FUN bar weren’t exactly the most potent of fragrances to be fair. However, I was not expecting them to be. What they did offer was a bonus little extra fun to be had in either the water or the shower (emotibomb anyone?) and these did nothing but compliment my experience whilst using the Time Traveller FUN Bar. Creative fans amongst us may decide to build objects with this fun, and use these bath bombs as props alongside this. However, my lack of time and patience meant that I decided to use the bombs in just a regular way and enjoyed an extra bath instead of a shower one evening.

Ultimately, this exclusive set appears to be designed with children in mind: a product that will offer them lots of fun in an evening or act as an exciting present that can be used later on that very day. However, that's not to say that adults cannot appreciate the sentiment of this creation either. 

My only concern, as I mentioned in my review of Witches' Cauldron, is that with no separation between the two, the FUN bar does tend to stick to the bath bomb s and over the space of a couple of weeks the moisture affects the bombs a little as well. A simple cardboard disc in between the two would probably rectify most of these problems or consumers just need to remember to buy and use this fresh.

Overall, this is a really lovely product and I’m really happy that I managed to grab a bar from the Liverpool store. This is definitely something that Lush should bring out as a regular product, as it’s a great little set for somebody looking for a simple gift, and will keep children entertained for a good couple of hours before they head to bed. The scent is spot on with the Calacas range, the bar itself lathers up really well; and while the bath bombs aren’t the most impressive, they do work well as a novelty whilst smelling rather lovely in the water as well.

Hi Ho Silver Bath Bomb

  

I think I felt as shocked as a lot of other people did when they first saw the price tag and realised how small this little bath bomb actually was. My initial reaction was a combination of wondering whether Lush had made a mistake on the website; if the company were in fact playing a huge joke on the committed fans amongst us, who will buy near on everything; or if this bath bomb had a miracle cure inside that I was about to find out. 

Ultimately, not one of the above ideas were realised during my experience of this bath bomb and I learned pretty quickly that Hi Ho Silver was just in fact a rather expensive bath bomb. Having said that, this is definitely not a terrible bath bomb by any means, and here's why:

Firstly, I will start by saying that despite how minute this bomb is, the scent you get when unleashing this into the water is beautiful. Olibanum, lime and orange oils go into creating a rich, slightly exotic and very resinous fragrance. The olibanum oil makes the smell of Hi Ho Silver very alluring and warming, and it comes across as rather smoky when it's dissolving in the water.

However, both of the citrus notes also make their presence known: offering very dry but equally slightly bitter fruity layers. Now don't get me wrong, there is nothing juicy or zesty about this aroma at all. In fact, the latter two components almost seem as if they've had the fruitiness knocked out of them. Instead, the lime and orange smell slightly dry and sour, which when combined with the olibanum makes for an interesting twist. I'd even go as far as to say that the smell of this bath bomb has an almost grape-like note to it.

What is impressive about Hi Ho Silver is how much of an incredible show it puts on in the tub. Within milliseconds of dropping it into the water, it begins to send out thick frothy purple streaks that shimmer slightly because of the inclusion of the silver lustre. As the bath bomb continues to dissolve, more and more trails of silver begin to decorate the surface: intertwining with the purple to offer a beautiful visual as you're submerged beneath the water. 

As the bath bomb sinks further, the silver stamp on top - which is made from creamy cocoa and shea butters - starts to dissolve into the water and adds an extra boost of moisture to the experience. What you are left with is a wonderfully translucent (and equally softening) purple water with a shed load of silver lustre pulsating under the surface.

For those that may be put off by the latter point, I should probably add that none of this lustre makes its way onto your skin during your bathe and you only need to rinse the bath for a few seconds afterwards to help the lustre disappear down the plug hole.

What I found was that Hi Ho Silver was really moisturising on the skin, and the condition of my body, especially in regards to my hands and feet, were noticeably smoother after my bath. The wonderful bath art that it created was also rather entertaining, and rather impressive given how small the bath bomb is. 

Having said this, I found that the fragrance didn't seem to stick around as long as many of Lush's other bombs, most notably the Goldrush Bath Bomb, which offered far more in the way of scent even though it was just as small as this one. Ultimately, this is a lovely addition to Lush's bath bomb collection but one that I feel is a little on the expensive side for what it offers consumers in the water.

Black FUN Bar

When Lush unleashed the gazillions of new exclusive products in their Liverpool superstore, a part of me wanted to collapse into a heap and wave my flag of surrender to the world. The truth is: I just cannot keep up any more with all of the company's releases, and there have been times when I have wanted to give up and direct my energy and attention onto another project.

However, if there is one thing I have learnt about being an avid Lush fan, it's that the community is even more amazing than the products themselves. The number of people who reached out to me: gave up their time and their energy, to get me a handful of these exclusives, made me realise first and foremost just how incredible a 'people' we are. 

Black FUN happens to be one of eleven exclusive bars that I have managed to get my hands on, and was picked first simply because it was the first one out of my box. Having not researched these bars very much beforehand, I was super surprised to find that this little gem shares its scent with the Blackberry Bath Bomb, and all of the products in the Sultana Of Skin range

Both rich and sultry, there is something really special about how the fruitiness of the key ingredients come together in this collaboration. For those who have had no prior experience of this fragrance, I can only describe it as a warming, resinous combination of olibanum, with almost a honey-like sweetness that offers a warm hug every single time you use it. For those who love this aroma, you may be pleased to learn that this bar of FUN replicates the aroma perfectly.

As with all of the other FUN bars that Lush offer, this one is versatile in how you use it and does a great job in each role. Finally, FUN can be used as a replacement for a shampoo. While I haven't tried this (due to the number of new shampoos that Lush have unleashed on us recently) I can imagine it would lather up well and leave your hair smelling super gorgeous afterwards.

My only concern with Black FUN, as it always is with any of Lush's FUN bars, is that you need to store this properly to prevent it from becoming a sticky mess at the side of your bath. For £3.95, this little 100g bar isn't the most expensive of investments, but it is a little more than I would want to pay for what is mostly cornflour and talc. Having said this, the scent works really well with this colour and in this format, and it's nice to be able to enjoy this fragrance in the shower, especially since I have run out of Sultana Shower Gel.

Strawberries And Cream Bath Bomb

It has been a matter of years since I began throwing the idea around of a Yummy Mummy scented bath bomb. While consumers have already been privy to the very popular Roller Bath Bomb, there was something about it that didn't give me the full Yummy Mummy experience I was hoping for...although that's not to say that Roller wasn't amazing!

After using Strawberries And Cream for the first time, it suddenly clicked that the 'missing ingredient' in Roller was the limited amount of sweet, fruity strawberry goodness that came through. I found that the floral element was a little stronger in that format whereas this brand new creation has hit the spot on every single level.

Firstly, I should point out that this bath bomb is a little on the small side, and while it's priced up £2 less than most regular bombs, it's still a little expensive for, what is ultimately, a one-use product. However, Strawberries And Cream offers you everything that you'd expect from a normal sized ballistic, and actually performs far better than many of the recent bombs I have bathed with.

Sharing its scent with Yummy Mummy, this gorgeous little fruit-shaped bath bomb offers a wonderfully fruity and super rich strawberry aroma. Being Lush, it definitely doesn't have a synthetic smell. However, the fragrance reminds me very much of strawberry sweets: if the sweets were made with real, fresh strawberry juice.

Underneath this, the olibanum oil adds a rich, sultry sweetness, whilst the geranium oil gives a little hint at some musky floral tones as well. Perhaps I'm a little biased but this aroma just makes me salivate, and I happen to think that Lush have replicated the scent of the shower cream almost identically to that of this bath bomb.

In the water, the little beauty gets to work at sending out gorgeous, vibrant waves of bright red colour: a shade that stays prominent throughout the whole experience. Even better is the thick centre made from various oils and butters, that dissolves slowly in the water like a regular bath melt, and turns the water into a stunning, velvety-soft haven of scent and moisture. 

After only being in the water for about five minutes, I found that my skin had noticeably improved and my body remained this way for the whole entire day. I didn't need to moisturise, and I didn't want to anyway because Strawberries and Cream left a delicate note of strawberry and vanilla on my skin afterwards.

This cute little exclusive is simply incredible and one that I will definitely be buying again, once I have gone through my entire stash of other bath bombs. At the risk of repeating myself, this bath bomb does everything that you could ask it to do, and it's a real pleasure bathing with it.
