Thunderbolt FUN Bar

When faced with a handful of brand new Lush items, there are two options to choose from: save the best to last and savour every minute of it when you finally rekindle yourself with a new favourite; or jump headfirst into using it first because why would you want to wait? Usually I fall into the former category through choice, as I like the idea of there being a light at the end of a very extravagant tunnel. However, this time around I fell into using my favourite product last simply because I hadn't done enough research to learn that it would in fact become my favourite product.

One of eleven exclusive FUN bars that are currently only available from the Liverpool store, Thunderbolt sports a gorgeous neon yellow design that guarantees to brighten up any shower in need of a little colour. However, what makes this FUN Bar so incredible is the fragrance that it offer... 

Sharing its scent with Never Mind The Ballistics Bath Bomb, this isn't the first time we have seen this fragrance used as a FUN Bar. Last Christmas saw perhaps my favourite product of the season, Festive Friends FUN, offer the exact same aroma to customers around the world, and it was clearly popular enough that Lush have brought it back as a permanent member of the Liverpool store.

This stunning fluorescent beauty offers a gorgeously fruity combination of orange and lime oils that'll have you salivating from the moment that you first begin using it. These two components are super bright and citrusy, while the inclusion of the olibanum oils adds an extra layer of sweetness that just curbs the tanginess of the fruit oils and allows them to be more rounded and warming.

There is something about this particular aroma that I feel actually works better as a FUN bar than a bath bomb and I only hope that we see other shower-related products made with a matching fragrance. All I will say is that the smell of Thunderbolt will brighten up even the darkest of mornings and send you to bed with the feel of sunshine on your skin.

As with all of the other FUN bars that Lush offer, this one is versatile in how you use it and does a great job in each role. Firstly, this is a great replacement for either your shower jelly, soap or gel. Simply take a small piece (about the size of a grape), wet it under the shower hose and massage it directly across your body. The bar foams up a treat and produces an impressive amount of light, fluffy lather that can be distributed across your skin with ease.

Just like Lush's shower gels, this bar leaves your skin really clean and with a super fruity fragrance to accompany you for a short while after you've towelled yourself down. While it's not as moisturising as the gels and jellies, I don't find FUN bars to be as drying on the skin as soap can be, even though they don't offer the complex scents you'd expect with Lush soaps.  

Secondly, FUN can be used in much the same way as a bubble bar: crumbling a small piece under the running tap to produce some bubbles as part of a cocktail. What I will say is that you don't get much more than just a light shade of yellow in the water when using this particular one and it's definitely not as moisturising as an actual bubble bar. However, it cocktails well with any of Lush's fruity bath bombs and yet manages to retain its scent alongside these in the water.

Much like I've stated in all of my reviews, you will need to consider how to store this product between uses, as it has a tendency to leave a sticky mess on any side it is left, if wet. While I love the fact that it's not in pot so it saves on packaging, you will need to keep this FUN Bar cool and dry in between showers. I would suggest breaking off a few pieces and storing them in a pot, away from any possible running water, as this will prolong the life of the bar. 

Ultimately, if I had access to this as a permanent feature in stores and online, I would perhaps use this FUN more than any of the other jellies/gels and FUN Bars on offer: yes, it really is that delicious. To be honest, to even consider that this may come out in a shower gel format once day completely blows my mind. If you're someone who loves Lush's bright, fruity and uplifting scents, you'll no doubt love this one, and I only hope it becomes more readily available in the near future.

Time Traveller FUN Bar

During the Halloween season last year, Lush unleashed a handful of a brand new FUN Bar called Witches' Cauldron, which was the first of its kind: a beautiful little tube with a normal sized bar of fun and three little miniature bath bombs to use if and as you please. This year Lush have created another rendition called Time Traveller, which has now become an exclusive for the Liverpool store.

Sharing its scent with Calacas, this highly colourful bar of cornflour offers a bright and fruity lime scent, with a wonderful thread of bergamot underneath to give the fragrance a little 'greenery' as well. Fans of the popular smell will appreciate that its transferred well into this format, and smells more of less identical to that of the Calacas Shower Gel.

Much like with Witches' Cauldron, this FUN bar was slightly harder than any of the other bars I had been using at the same time, which made me appreciate how easy this was to break a small piece off with each use, and how well it functioned in the shower as well.

I only needed a piece the size of half a penny to wash my whole body with in the shower, and even then I think I could have got away with using even less. Massaging it between my hands with a little water heeded an impressive amount of light and fragrant bubbly lather, and it was super easy to transfer across to my skin. Upon rinsing the product away, I found that the aroma stayed with my skin for a short while, and the soft feeling that the FUN Bar created lingered around for a good many hours later.

To use in the shower, you simply have to break off a little of the bar, add a little moisture and then massage across your skin. The FUN produces a colourful, soapy foam to wash with and is easy enough to use. Use too much however, and you’ll find large sticky chunks will be littering the floor of your shower, which then needs to be washed away with the water. 

The three little bath bombs that came alongside the FUN bar weren’t exactly the most potent of fragrances to be fair. However, I was not expecting them to be. What they did offer was a bonus little extra fun to be had in either the water or the shower (emotibomb anyone?) and these did nothing but compliment my experience whilst using the Time Traveller FUN Bar. Creative fans amongst us may decide to build objects with this fun, and use these bath bombs as props alongside this. However, my lack of time and patience meant that I decided to use the bombs in just a regular way and enjoyed an extra bath instead of a shower one evening.

Ultimately, this exclusive set appears to be designed with children in mind: a product that will offer them lots of fun in an evening or act as an exciting present that can be used later on that very day. However, that's not to say that adults cannot appreciate the sentiment of this creation either. 

My only concern, as I mentioned in my review of Witches' Cauldron, is that with no separation between the two, the FUN bar does tend to stick to the bath bomb s and over the space of a couple of weeks the moisture affects the bombs a little as well. A simple cardboard disc in between the two would probably rectify most of these problems or consumers just need to remember to buy and use this fresh.

Overall, this is a really lovely product and I’m really happy that I managed to grab a bar from the Liverpool store. This is definitely something that Lush should bring out as a regular product, as it’s a great little set for somebody looking for a simple gift, and will keep children entertained for a good couple of hours before they head to bed. The scent is spot on with the Calacas range, the bar itself lathers up really well; and while the bath bombs aren’t the most impressive, they do work well as a novelty whilst smelling rather lovely in the water as well.

Quicksand FUN Bar

From an outside perspective, it's sometimes a little confusing when certain products get discontinued and others suddenly make an appearance, especially when you assume that these products are rather popular when they're obviously not selling very well. It confused me quite a lot when Lush took away both the Yuzu And Cocoa Bubbleroon and Shower Cream from their shelves, as I always thought that these were two of their biggest sellers. 

When the company then brought out a Yuzu And Cocoa Liquid Perfume a few months later, and a Yuzu And Cocoa Body Lotion and Shower Jelly not long after, I couldn't for the life of me decide whether or not this product was actually just really popular as an exclusive, or whether Lush had underestimated how much negative feedback they would receive from removing the classic duo from their shops. 

Either way, I was thrilled to learn that Quicksand FUN was scented with the same fragrance as the Yuzu And Cocoa range, and I couldn't wait to try it out for size. Not only did the format, design and fragrance intrigue me, but reading the description also had me interested in how a fun bar with actual sand in the ingredients list would work on my skin.

What I found with Quicksand was that first and foremost the Yuzu And Cocoa scent worked perfectly in this format. Both fruity and creamy, this Liverpool exclusive boasted all of the fruity properties that you would expect from any other product in this range. 

A distinctive and rather difficult ingredient to describe, the yuzu is a Japanese fruit that has a scent not too far off of that of a grapefruit, albeit slightly more exotic and rounded smelling. Coupled with the grapefruit oil itself, these two add a wonderfully sweet fruity smell unlike anything else that Lush have made.

Alongside this, the cocoa absolute then gives that 'chocolate-orange' element that Lush describe: thickening the overall fragrance and adding a rich, creamy depth to the scent. Underneath this is a dash of tonka absolute that pads out the creamy bass note, while the bergamot oil adds a sweetness that compliments the other ingredients and rounds the FUN off beautifully.

Simply put: Quicksand FUN smells absolutely beautiful and very much like the warm, fruity dessert that we've come to recognise this smell as. Everything about the scent of this will have you salivating from the get-go and it's definitely on par with the likes of the bath bomb and the body lotion.

Not only does it smell divine, but it also happens to be super effective in the shower. This bar happens to be a little on the soft side so it definitely should be stored somewhere really cool between uses, and I'd definitely recommend that you only take a tiny piece with you into the shower each time as you really don't need a lot.

Alongside this, Quicksand boasts the addition of sand in the ingredients list, so this beautiful exclusive also offers a gentle exfoliation when it's being used. You can actually feel the little grains of sand getting to work at buffering and cleaning you skin, and you can feel the difference afterwards.

As soon as it comes into contact with the water, it lathers up and creates a thick, fragrant foam that coats your skin and leaves the scent lingering on your body. Much like a soap, the fragrance comes into full force when it reacts to the heat of the water and you really have to fight the urge not to munch on the bar whilst you're using it. I dare say at least one person has probably had a taste of this at some point and been sorely disappointed!

I will go as far as to say that this is even better than a shower cream as it lathers up a treat in the shower and produces a gorgeous, silky-soft mound of suds to clean yourself with. When you massage this across your skin, you can feel how instantly smooth it makes you feel and you can still detect the fragrance on your skin when you exit the bathroom, and for hours afterwards as well. It doesn't dry your skin out at all and the only thing that you may want to be careful with is applying too much at any one go. As it's quite a sticky product, you'll find that using too much at once will just create a messy paste in your hand, which is not a major problem, but does mean that the product is being wasted that this 'mess' will need to be used up instead of being stored for a later date.

Much like every other FUN bar, Quicksand can also be used instead of a bubble bar - held under a running tap to create a surplus amount of bubbles and a beautifully fragrant bath to enjoy. Again, this bar worked well in this way although it didn't produce as many bubbles as some of the other FUN bars have done so, perhaps because of its softer constancy. I cut a slice that probably equated to a sixth of the bar and this gave me more than enough bubbles, so this works out cheaper than a regular bubble bar.

While the product doesn't really create an exciting or colourful bath, the smell more than makes up for it and offers a relaxing and very comforting bath tub experience for all. Having said that, I would recommend that you use this in place of a shower gel as opposed to a bubble bar, as you get a much more rewarding experience this way and the product goes a lot further. Using it as a bubble bar will also leave a mild trace of the sand at the bottom of the tub, which may prove a little prickly to sensitive bottoms.

I'd probably go as far as to say that Quicksand FUN is one of my favourite inventions from Lush in a while, even if the bar itself is super sticky and almost like a sunken cake than a FUN bar. If you're a fan of the Yuzu And Cocoa scent, you will need to get your hands on one of these right away. This needs to be made a permanent for certain, otherwise I'll be trekking up to Liverpool myself, just to grab some of these in the future.

Glow Worm FUN Bar

Avobath Bath Bomb was one of the very first products I ever tried from Lush and many of my earliest memories feature that classic product. It's a scent that reminds me of my journey into the company: when everything was new and exciting and very overwhelming. Since then we have seen an impressive number of products make an appearance in this scent, most recently this limited edition FUN Bar.

Named Glow Worm because it also happens to glow in the dark, this luminescent bar of FUN is exclusive to the Lush Liverpool store. While fairly plain in demeanour, it's definitely worth an investment, and I can only hope that my review will tempt a few people to try it out for themselves.

Featuring a generous helping of lemongrass, bergamot and rosewood, this squid little bar of fun offers a bright, zesty, uplifting lemongrass scent, with a green-like undercurrent, and a little of the rosewood for grounding underneath. If you're for a fragrance that will compliment the warmer weather, I cannot think of anything better than this one.

Much like with each of the limited edition Liverpool FUN bars that have come out with this one, Glow Worm is really easy to use and very generous in the bath and shower. You only need to break off a piece the size of a small grape and this will produce enough suds to last you the entire shower. Simply massage the piece between your palms, allowing a little water to get involved, and the FUN bar produces a mass of silky-soft foam to clean yourself with.

Unlike a lot of FUN Bars, this one happens to be a little on the squishy side to begin with, so I'd highly recommend that you store it somewhere cool between uses, and ensure you only take a small amount into the water with you each time. Otherwise, you're likely to make a sticky mess on the side of the bath if you leave the product there exposed to heat and damp.

I have also tried this in the bath - using it in the same way I would a bubble bar by holding it under a running tap to create a surplus amount of bubbles and a beautifully fragrant bath to enjoy. Again, this bar worked really well in this way and I really enjoyed being able to bathe in the fragrance alongside of Avobath Bath Bomb for extra zest! I cut a slice that probably equated to about a sixth of the bar and this gave me more than enough bubbles, so this works out cheaper than a regular bubble bar for sure.

For those who love this smell, you can also use this in replacement of your regular shampoo, and coupled with the conditioner will leave your locks smelling wonderful. While I haven't tried this in my hair, I've heard from many people that FUN works well in this way and I cannot see why this one would be any different. 

To conclude; I really loved this FUN bar and I think Lush would do well bringing it out for everybody to enjoy at some point in the future. It cleaned and moisturised my skin well and left a wonderful fragrance that lingered on my skin for a good hour after I had towelled myself down. Despite the hefty price tag, the fact that I needed to use a lot less than other FUN Bars made it seem better value for money, and I would certainly buy it again.

Bronze FUN Bar

Back in 2014, Lush brought out a series of limited edition FUN Bars as part of a collection called 'mind the gap.' A few weeks prior they had released a handful of limited edition perfumes that didn't appear to have been filled to the very top,  so the company brought out these FUN Bars by way of apology. One of these limited editions was scented with the Yog Nog fragrance, which completely blew my mind and had me salivating each and every time I used it (sparingly) in the shower.

Fast forward to 2019 and Bronze FUN Bar hits the shelves of the Liverpool superstore as one of their in store exclusives, boasting the same Yog Nog aroma and looking super scrumptious to boot. I just knew I had to get my hands on a bar as soon as it was humanly possible, and thanks to an amazing person this dream came true far earlier than I had imagined it would.

This product is everything you could wish for if you're a fan of this fragrance. Made from a mixture of ylang ylang and clove bud oil, with a sprinkling of cocoa powder, Bronze FUN is a sweet, vanillary aroma intertwined with a delicious fudgy note alongside this. There's also a gentle note of nutmeg and clove, both of which you can detect but neither of which are particularly strong overall.

Simply put: Bronze FUN smells absolutely beautiful and very much like the warm, buttery dessert that we've come to recognise this smell as. Everything about the scent of this will have you salivating from the get-go, and it's definitely on par with the likes of the bath bomb and the body lotion.

Silver FUN Bar

Sometimes you just need to shower yourself with glitter to unleash the royalty inside of you. After a rather emotionally drained weekend, I couldn't think of a better remedy than to take my brand new bar of Silver FUN into the shower, and wash off any remaining negativity before the start of a new week.  

Having not researched anything about this Liverpool exclusive beforehand, I had no preconceptions about the fragrance itself, and was pleasantly surprised to find that it shares its scent with the beautiful Aurora Borealis Body Scrub: another Liverpool exclusive that only recently made an appearance in the Lush Labs release.

Containing both spearmint and lemon oils, this gorgeous FUN Bar offers a gentle but equally refreshing minty smell, with a refreshing citrusy twist underneath. There is something slightly musky about the mint note in this format, which I loved from the start, and the fruity note only served to make this even more delicious. While the smell of this is nothing groundbreaking, it makes for a nice change.  

As with all of the other FUN bars that Lush offer, this one is versatile in how you use it and does a great job in each role. Firstly, this is a great replacement for either your shower jelly, soap or gel. Given its silver coating, you will find that a little dash of lustre may find its way onto your skin during the shower. However, this will rinse away just as easily as it appeared, so you shouldn't be at all worried that you'll leave the shower looking like a disco ball.

Just like Lush's shower gels, this bar leaves your skin really clean and with a gentle, creamy minty fragrance lingering on your body afterwards. Alongside a little dash of lemon oil, this refreshing smell will linger on your skin for a short while after your shower, and works especially well when the weather outside is rather hot and sticky, as the scent will keep you feeling 'cool'. While it's not as moisturising as the gels and jellies, I don't find FUN bars to be as drying on the skin as soap can be, even though they don't offer the complex scents you'd expect with Lush soaps. For this reason, you may need to moisturise afterwards but it's not a necessity.

Secondly, FUN can be used in much the same way as a bubble bar: crumbling a small piece under the running tap to produce some bubbles as part of a cocktail. What I will say is that you don't get any sort of colour when using this FUN bar in the water, and it's definitely not as moisturising as a regular bubble bar. However, this may work well alongside a minty bath bomb to add a few extra bubbles and a little extra moisture if it suits you so.

In recent years, I have found that FUN is far easier to travel with as opposed to a shower gel, as it takes up less room in your cosmetics bag and diminishes over time so you bring less back with you when coming home. For this reason, I took Silver FUN with me on a recently weekend trip to Amsterdam and really enjoyed the experience of being able to take such a small piece (grape-sized) with me and make it last successfully across three consecutive days.

Ultimately, this is another lovely little release from Lush and I thoroughly enjoyed being able to enjoy another fragrance in this format. While I will always opt for a shower gel over a FUN Bar, I cannot complain about the pricing or productivity of this limited edition, and only hopes it makes a wider appearance for other consumers to try out for themselves.

Sunset FUN Bar

One of eleven exclusive FUN bars that are currently only available from the Liverpool store, Sunset was easily one of the products that I was most excited to get my hands on. While I'm still rather clueless as to what many of the exclusives smell like, this particular bar I had read about before, so I already knew that I was going to love it.

Sharing its scent with The Brightside Bubble Bar, this gorgeous vibrant orange beauty is as uplifting and as stunning as its name suggests. Packed full of mandarin and tangerine oils, this bar offers a juicy, fruity aroma with a sharp citrusy edge to finish. It's super bright and fresh and doesn't compromise the natural sweetness of any of the oils used.

As with all of the other FUN bars that Lush offer, this one is versatile in how you use it and does a great job in each role. Firstly, this is a great replacement for either your shower jelly, soap or gel. Finally, FUN can be used as a replacement for a shampoo. While I haven't tried this (due to the number of new shampoos that Lush have unleashed on us recently) I can imagine it would lather up well and leave your hair smelling super gorgeous afterwards.

For £3.95, this little 100g bar isn't the most expensive of investments and I have thoroughly enjoyed using this in my morning showers as it is the perfect 'wake me up' before the gym. My only issue with Sunset is that it's now got me dreaming about a Brightside-scented shower gel, which at the moment isn't available to buy.

White FUN Bar

Maybe it's just my primary school mind that finds the funny side of some Lush's more simplistic-sounding product names. Whenever I see something without a clever pun or a witty tag line, I always imagine how blunt the children in my class can be, and what would happen if we put them in charge of naming other products. It always gives me a little something to giggle about.

White FUN Bar would never win any awards for its name for sure, and it doesn't take any intelligence to work out how simple this product was to make. While we cannot expect any colourful magic to be happening in our showers with this one, the fragrance itself is enough to leave you fully satisfied ..and possibly feeling a little peckish at the same time.

Sharing its scent with the Butterball range, this little tube of white replicates the creaminess of this scent family perfectly. The musk offers a beautifully sweet, vanillary aroma, while the addition of the ylang adds a delicate note of floral underneath. I'd go as far as to say that this FUN Bar is easily the creamiest rendition of this scent family that I have ever experienced; it's like rich, melted vanilla ice cream. 

What I love about especially about White FUN is that the texture is a little softer than the other bars, so it almost melts in your hand and creates the most beautifully thick, creamy lather. This abundance of foam to wash with is far more than I have experienced with most of Lush's other FUNs, which is strange because I cannot work out anything from the ingredients list to suggest why this may be. I'm not going to question a good thing though.

Just like Lush's shower gels and other FUN Bars, this bar leaves your skin really clean and with a creamy, sultry vanilla fragrance to accompany you for a good couple of hours after your shower. While it's not as moisturising as the gels and jellies, I found that this was perhaps the most nourishing of the FUN Bars, meaning that I did notice how soft my skin felt afterwards.

Secondly, FUN can be used in much the same way as a bubble bar: crumbling a small piece under the running tap to produce some bubbles as part of a cocktail. Although I don't really need to state this, you certainly don't get any colour when using the bar in this way, even though the fragrance was still there for me to enjoy. Used alongside a classic Butterball Bath Bomb would make for an amazing experience.

Finally, this FUN bar can be used as a replacement for a shampoo. While I haven't tried this (due to the number of new shampoos that Lush have unleashed on us recently) I can imagine it would lather up well and leave your hair smelling super gorgeous afterwards. Although I should probably state that given how sticky this one gets when in contact with water, there is a possibility that you'll end up with little pieces accumulating throughout your locks.

As I wanted to preserve this bar for as long as possible, I chose to cut a small piece off for each shower, and found that I could use a piece the size of a large sultana and get a full body wash out of it. Despite the size of the FUN Bar, this product could easily be preserved for a good couple of months with daily usage.

Fans of the Butterball scent will definitely want to get their hands on this rendition, as it is simply gorgeous in every way. As I've said in some of my other Liverpool exclusive reviews, I only hope that this becomes available online so that consumers around the world can enjoy this bar as much as I have been doing.
