Mother Superior Bubble Bar

It is always the products you have the least amount of expectations for, that somehow blow your mind and leave a lasting impression on you. At least, that's what I have found with most of my all-time favourite Lush products - Glorious Mud Body Mask and Almond Buttercream to name a few. The same can be said for this beautiful new addition to Lush's Mother's Day range

Mother Superior Bubble Bar lives up to it's name - a product that looks and smells incredible and immediately invites you to try it out in the tub. Sporting a design that plays homage to an abbess, prioress or other nun in charge of a Christian religious order or congregation, this product shares it's scent with the popular Rub Rub Rub Shower Scrub and Sakura Bath Bomb

Packed full of mimosa, jasmine and orange blossom absolute, this bubble bar has a very strong but equally refreshing scent. Quoting from my Sakura review, it's an 'almost savoury smell that wouldn't go amiss standing on the cliff tops during a stormy day.' Others say that it reminds them of freshly laundered linen and I can recognise this comparison as well.
Imagine standing beneath a cherry blossom tree on a cool spring morning and this might give you some indication of how it smells - a very powerful and rather unique take on the floral genre. The lemon oil adds a layer of citrus beneath all of this but it's far milder than the zesty offering you would normally expect from Lush.

The most impressive aspect about this bubble bar is how much of it you need to make a big impact in the tub. I quartered this and found that it more than enough to fill the whole bath with an impressive haven of light, fluffy bubbles. In retrospect, I could have divided this even further and perhaps even got six baths out of the product, making this incredible value for money.

I found that it worked best when the bar was crumbled under the running tap, and by doing this Mother Superior not only turned the water into a very pretty shade of sky-blue, but offered a wonderful and very uplifting aroma that engulfed the entire bathroom almost straight away. This wonderful fragrance stayed with me throughout the entire experience and lingered on my skin afterwards.

The smell remained consistent throughout the entire bathing experience, although the bubbles tended to disperse rather quickly which was a little disappointing. Despite this, the bubble bar was incredibly moisturising and left a beautiful and rather gentle aroma on my skin. Not only this but it left me feeling very soft and clean afterwards - I didn't have to moisturise at all and I received a few compliments for the 'perfume' I was wearing at work.

While the scent is a little hit and miss with me normally, in this format it really comes alive and has made me fall in love with it all over again. Although the Mother's Day products will be around for a while, I would highly suggest that you try this one out as soon as possible as it'll brighten your day and leave you feeling incredible. While it's only available for a matter of weeks, this beauty would be the perfect summer product so I'll be stashing a few away for the warmer months. Superior by name, superior by nature.

  1. Could you maybe do a FAQ or something regarding bubble bars? Tell us the best ways to chunk it up/store/ use in the tub. I sometimes use way more than what other people do and get less bubbles! It's driving me crazy! Nothing I do can generate much bubbles and they all disappear quite quickly. I don't know if it's me that's somehow doing it wrong or if it's the water pressure from the tap or water?

    1. This sounds like a great idea! Give me a week or two and I'll add a response to my F.A.Q :)

    2. I've found the best way is to pop the bubble bar in a sieve and hold it under the tap. The power of the water pushes little bits through the sieve to replicate crumbling it and (this is the best bit) when you feel you have enough bubbles, you can just pull out the sieve and dry off the rest of the bubble bar so no wastage. The downside to this is that you have to stay and hold it whilst the baths running but this doesn't really bother me. You may also find its your water temperature/pressure as my boiler broke a few weeks ago and it meant intermittent hot water and I got some rubbish results to the point where I discounted some products as failures. However since that's been fixed I've had no issues, I'm using the same products again with massively different results. Hope this helps!

    3. Is the water where you live very hard? Do you get limescale forming in the kettle, and any places where water lies, like taps and toilet? The harder the water, the fewer bubbles you will get. Soft water will produce a lot more bubbles.

    1. I've heard about the price hike in the US - there's no reason for it! It's not as if they ship the products across - very annoying I imagine! I'm glad you loved this one though as it was pretty amazing!
