29 High Street Shower Jelly

When I first started collecting and using Lush products, the 29 High Street Perfume (called HQ at the time) was one of my most sought out products. The reason being that, as a new fan, the idea of a perfume smelling like a Lush shop was too exciting to put into words. It certainly didn't let me down when I finally found myself a bottle some two years later.

For new fans across the globe, Lush's 29 High Street range has a fragrance that is based on the idea of walking into a Lush shop; and its name plays homage to the address of the very first Lush shop to open over 30 years ago. While the smell of your local store may at first be very overwhelming, the company have created a scent that mimics all of those key smells so beautifully, and this recent shower jelly is no exception.

It's a rare occurrence when I opt for a shower jelly over a shower gel, but I happen to think that this particular jelly is even stronger, and more beautiful than its older sibling. Sporting a wonderful golden orange colour, this shower jelly both nourishes your skin and leaves a gentle fragrance on the skin afterwards, which is great for those who don't have the luxury of enjoying the liquid fragrance after a shower.

Containing notes of lemon, ylang ylang, sandalwood, jasmine, lime and tonka, this limited edition would appeal to those who like warming fragrances, of both the fruity and floral kind. Much like the shower gel, these key components sound like they should clash quite considerably. However, they work together wonderfully to produce a smell that offers fans a little bit of almost everything that Lush have to offer.

As the scent has demonstrated in the past, it is the lemon and jasmine that are the most dominating notes. However, I wouldn't describe this scent as being at all citrusy, and the jasmine is so far from being as overbearing as it is in the Lust fragrance. Instead, both of these ingredients work on creating something that dips into both a sweet, floral scent, and one that has a warming note of lemon as well.

Alongside this, you can also detect the warmth of the tonka without detecting anything too vanillary or two creamy; the ylang ylang then adds its own rich, sweet touch without making the fragrance overly floral. Despite all of these elements holding their own, it's only when you're specifically looking for them that you can pull them out by themselves; as all of the components merge together to create one beautifully unified aroma.

While this jelly shares its fragrance with the other products in this range, I happen to think that this may in fact be my favourite rendition of the scent. There is something so rich and silky, but equally warming and delicate that makes this shower jelly simply delicious.

When you begin to use 29 High Street Shower Jelly in the shower, you'll discover that it lathers up really well - creating light, frothy and very fragrant suds to massage across the skin. Although it can be a little fiddly, I found that either blending it up with a little water to create a shower gel; or cutting it up into smaller pieces to use individually, worked far better than trying to hold the whole thing in the shower at once. And when I say you need a minuscule amount, I mean that I was taking pieces that were the size of raisins in the shower and being able to wash my entire body from the foam created - meaning I've been using this beauty for the last three weeks and I have barely made a dent in the tub at all.

I would honestly choose this over the shower gel, if I had a choice, which is perhaps the first time I have ever said that. Fans new to Lush should definitely check out - what is essentially - a piece of Lush history, and enjoy a gorgeous, beautifully fragranced experience at the same time. Well done Lush!
