Phuket Bath Bomb

If there ever was a bath bomb that was going to be mispronounced, this one would be it. While it probably says something about myself, it took me three attempts to get it right, and I still sometimes find myself thinking the incorrect and rather rude alternative in my head.

Pronounced foo-ket, this ballistic was originally released to raise money to aid the Tsunami Relief Fund - a charity set up to provide relief and aid to the victims of devastating natural disasters. This was most relevant in 2004, when the Indian Ocean Tsunami disaster claimed more than 230,000 lives in fourteen different countries, and was named one of the most deadliest natural disasters ever recorded.

Containing a generous helping of orange oil and desiccated coconut, this gorgeous bath bomb gives off an aroma not that far off Big Calm Shower Jelly. Both of these ingredients shine through in equal measures - making this beautiful product a wonderful sweet and nutty experience with a hint of citrus.
With the addition of vetivert to add a very subtle woody aroma, and a strange inclusion of coriander oil that I couldn't really detect at all, Phuket is a bath bomb that makes a statement - a gorgeously warming scent that compliments the heat of the summer, but acts as a form of escapism during those colder months.

What is great about this bath bomb is that there is so much coconut threaded throughout the product. This means that when the bath bomb explodes across the water, handfuls of the stuff disperses across the surface of the water and helps to add much needed conditioning properties to the experience.

This is definitely one of the most moisturising bath bombs, and it is this latter ingredient that makes it so - the orange oil adding some radiance to your skin while the coriander diminishes body odour and helps to detoxify the skin while you're bathing in its waters.

Unfortunately, the one aspect that lets Phuket down is that it isn't buoyant at all in the tub. Despite being fresh, both of the bath bombs I tried consecutively sunk upon impact with the water, and all I was able to 'enjoy' was a bubbling sensation coming from the base of the bath tub.  While the desiccated coconut rose to the surface fairly quickly, and the water turned a warming shade of orange, the bath bomb did little else for me to write home about.
Having said that, the smell that radiated from the tub was a lot stronger than I expected. Although I have heard many fans state that this ballistic is quite weak-smelling when dispersed in the water, I was delighted to discover the opposite - the bomb creating a fragrant and very pleasing bath that left remnants of coconut and orange on my skin afterwards.

While I would have liked to have seen more than just the one colour coming from this product, I cannot deny that it didn't smell delicious throughout my entire bath, and I relished in the fact that I was bathing in what smelled like a Caribbean cocktail. Furthermore, my skin was left feeling radiant and well-nourished - the dry patches between my fingers healing up very quickly and my complexion pertaining some much-needed colour.

This is a bath bomb I would be happy to enjoy over and over again, and I look forward to pairing this with the likes of You've Been Mangoed and Floating Island Bath Melts to extend the creaminess and enjoy a decadent experience that won't add to the waist line.

  1. Hi Jen!

I'm pretty sure Phuket is pronounced poo-ket (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Th-Phuket.ogg), unless this is a special pronounciation for just this product?

    Hope I didn't offend you! :)

    1. Of course you haven't offended me - I'm always grateful of the advice! :) I actually thought it was foo-ket until my flatmate corrected me and went into detail about why it was pronounced foo-kay. Now I know that I shouldn't trust his word against mine! When in doubt, I nearly always no better when it comes to anything Lush ;)

  2. While reading this review I suddenly came of with this yummy sounding cocktail :)
    "Caribbean Escape"
1 Phuket Bath Bomb for the base smell
    1/2 a floating island melt
    1/2 a you've been mangoed melt
1 Yuzu and Cocoa bubbleroon for moisture and bubbles
1/2 of a sunnyside for sparkle and citrus
And wash with and ass as much Yuzu and Cocoa shower gel to the bath as your heart desires :)
This is an extravagant cocktail designed to take you to a fantasy world where you sit on warm sandy beaches while sipping yummy cocktails.
