Polar Bear Plunge Bubble Bar

One of the recurring themes that tends to come up in discussions about Lush products is this understanding that mint is a really uplifting, and very healing fragrance to use to benefit your mental health. While I have always found mint aromas have the power to elevate my spirit at times, I have never truly understood the full extent of their healing capacities until recently. 

With the downfall of my mental health in recent months, Polar Bear Plunge Bubble Bar couldn't have come at a better time. This spearmint-scented beauty not only offered me one of the most moisturising baths I have had in a long time, but recognising how much this product was also able to improve my mental health that particular day was simply astounding. 

Firstly, let's start with the fact that this bubble bar is perhaps one of the cutest bath products that Lush have ever created. Who would not want to bathe with a miniature version of one of the most beautiful creatures on our planet? Everything about this Christmas special has been perfectly crafted: from it's size, shape, design and scent, and would be the perfect stocking filler for adult and child alike.

What I love about Polar Bear is that it epitomises a very basic design and fragrance. Whereas I would normally shy away from quite basic smells, there is something rather comforting about the simplicity of this scent, and the fact that it doesn't add any colour to the bath water as well. For this latter reason, this bubble bar would work well with any other bath bomb you wish to combine it with - adding a cooling, refreshing undertone to indulge yourself in.

Having said that, this limited edition is perhaps not as strong as you would initially envisage it to be. In fact, I was rather surprised to discover that the 'bite' of the spearmint is fairly tame compared to other Lush products that feature this ingredient as a key component. Therefore, if you dislike strong mint scents, this one is definitely far tamer than you would imagine.

Strangely, when crumbling this under the running water, I found that the consistency is very on par with that of a reusable bubble bar. I discovered that it was very difficult to actually break the bubble bar apart, and simply holding it under the running water was enough to generate a generous amount of bubbles in my bath tub. 

In fact, I would say that it would be far more conducive to cut the bubble bar into 3-4 pieces beforehand, and only use part of the Polar Bear with each bath. This makes this seasonal special really good value for money in my eyes, as it works out at roughly £1.25 per bath. Compared to a £4 bath oil, this seems a little more reasonable.

Despite its lack of colour in the tub, the softness of the water was really obvious from the moment I submerged beneath the surface. Within a matter of minutes the condition of my skin felt completely different: it was far softer; more velvet to the touch; and it just appeared incredibly nourished. This feeling continued for the rest of the day and into the next, without needing to use a body lotion or massage bar afterwards.

Ultimately, I can see why there has been so much hype surrounding this bubble bar, as it is quite simply a perfect product. The design itself is utterly cute; the scent is strong enough to last long after the plug has been pulled, yet not so strong to overwhelm the senses; the way it nourishes and improves the condition of your skin, and enhances your mental health is simply phenomenon. This needs to become a regular member of the Lush range, and I would highly recommend that you grab yourself one of these before the year is out.

Pop Art Bath Bomb

Given my current life situation, having baths in the middle of the day is the only reprieve I have from the mess I'm trying to stumble through ninety-nine per cent of the time. Having any bath bombs to 'play' with is always a luxury, but having ones as good quality as Lush's Christmas range makes me extremely grateful to the people who made it possible.

Pop Art is a brand new bath bomb for the 2019 seasonal range and looks and smells exactly as its name suggest: a piece of buttery popcorn. This beauty is definitely for those who have a sweet tooth, especially when you're trying to consume less sugar over the Christmas celebrations. Stick one of these in your bath tub and its very much like having your cake and bathing in it...er...

Supposedly sharing its scent with Let The Good Times Roll Facial Cleanser, this limited edition offers a warm, buttery caramel smell to drool over. While fans of Yog Nog will no doubt appreciate this fragrance as well, this is definitely less cloying and not as heavy smelling as the aforementioned bath bomb, which makes it a wonderful alternative if you're wanting something sweet but gentle as well. There is also something slightly 'dry' about the smell, once it has fully dissolved in the bath, which could be seen as a homage to the popcorn pieces that feature in the original facial cleanser.

What I did enjoy about Pop Art was the amount of popping candy that featured inside the bath bomb. It was a matter of seconds after I placed it in the water that it began to crackle loudly as it bobbed across the surface. This continued for the whole ten or so minutes it took for the product to fully dissolve, and then I could still her remnants of the ingredient underneath the water when I submerged my head.

What sets this apart from most of Lush's bath bombs is that it was a fairly slow fizzer, which meant that for the first couple of minutes it simply bobbed and spun across the surface without producing huge amounts of colour. However, once the water began to reach the centre, streams of bright yellow and orange began to explode out from the sides and paint the water a rich, sultry shade of yellow.

In the past I have always said that yellow is perhaps one of my least favourite colours for a bath, for obvious reasons. And I still stick by this premise. However, my state of mind when bathing with Pop Art allowed me see the yellow as more like a little bout of sunshine, which is something we will be needing more of as the winter season takes over the weather.

The inclusion of the sea salt really makes a difference when using this bath bomb. I was able to feel the difference it made to my skin and the water felt silky-smooth throughout the whole process. Furthermore, a few small wounds I had on my feet seemed to heal up noticeably quicker after bathing with Pop Art, not to mention that its combination of scent and colour elevated my mood a little as well.

The fragrance stayed present throughout the whole of the experience, although it wasn't enough to linger in the bathroom afterwards. However, I was able to detect remnants on my hands, arms and the ends of my hair afterwards, all of which stayed with me for an impressive 4-5 hours. It made me realise how much a body lotion in this scent would be a lovely addition to the range.

Overall, this is a great new release from Lush and one that I hope to be able to use again in the future. Unless you're opposed to yellow-coloured baths, Pop Art is for those who have a seriously sweet tooth and want an alternative to Yog Nog this year. While it is very foody and definitely doesn't have as much character as some of Lush's other seasonal choices, this will certainly be very popular during the Christmas season, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was made permanent at some point in the future.

Santa's Grotto Bath Bomb

Despite the sun still shining gloriously outside of my window, there was something about the idea of a comforting bath that led me into having one for the first time in months. While self care is incredibly important, I've had neither the mental capacity or the practical means to actually have a bath, even if I wanted to - making this particular experience extremely special. I can honestly say that there is something incredibly magical about this release and I couldn't have asked for a better introduction back into the world of Lush.

Santa’s Grotto is a brand new bath bomb featured in Lush's 2019 Christmas range, and was made available earlier for the select few hundred consumers who were able to buy the company's limited edition advent calendar before it sold out. 

Offering a fragrance that I wouldn't describe as being strictly festive, this limited edition is one of those wonderful bombs designed to compliment the winter weather as opposed to being 'too Christmassy.' However, I should probably point out that the scent of this bomb is definitely more of an acquired taste, and definitely not suitable for anyone who dislikes heady smells. This one will stick to your nose and your bathroom like an overly loyal dog.

Sporting a pastel green design, Santa's Grotto offers beautiful, chunky pieces of sea salt on top, some of which have been coloured a sparkly golden colour to add a beautiful glimmer. Alongside this, little rocks of red popping candy have been embedded in the surface to add an extra feature to marvel.

Featuring a combination of everlasting flower absolute, ylang ylang and tagetes, the scent of this bath bomb is quite difficult to describe, and certainly doesn't do it justice at all when I do so. What I will say is that despite other descriptions, I do detect quite a distinctive floral aroma. It's very powdery and heady and features both a herbal twist that deepens and intensifies the fragrance of the everlasting flower, and a slightly grassy edge that gives it more of a 'green' feel as well.

Despite there being nothing in the ingredients list to suggest where it comes from, there is also something naturally sweet and almost citrus-like about this smell as well. It's almost as if the ylang ylang has been turned up a notch in this bath bomb which clashes slightly with the other components. However, there is something about these different components that just work. 

While my description might seem rather negative, I actually happen to love the scent of Santa's Grotto. It's definitely not the smell you would expect from the name of the product, and I actually think it's shame that the name will prevent it from becoming a permanent feature in shops. Fans of outdoorsy types of smells will probably really appreciate this release.  

As if the design and smell weren't gorgeous enough, this wonderful bath bomb begins to fizz and crackle as soon as it hits the water. Very quickly Santa's Grotto fills the tub with a stunning shade of turquoise colour, with streams of mauve exploding from its centre to offer a wonderful visual display.

Once the bath bomb has fully dissolved, you're left with a gorgeous shade of water that features a light dash of silver lustre sparkling under the surface. Not only this but the inclusion of the salt makes the water extremely moisturising, and it only took a matter of minutes for me to notice a huge difference with the condition of my skin. In addition, the scent lingered throughout the whole experience and stayed on my skin for a good while afterwards. 

This is one of those bath bombs that offers you everything you could want: a strong, robust smell; a beautiful display of colour in the water; and nourishing qualities that will leave you feeling like a new person. While I think this bath bomb will divide the Lush community like Marmite does, I happen to think there is something rather special about this release, and I would love to experience this again before the end of the year.

Zephyrus Mouthwash Tabs

Despite being in the house by myself, the urge to have a one-person party was incredibly tempting after I found myself close to finishing this review. After nearly a month of constantly blogging and twenty different tooth/mouthwash tabs to work my way through, to have finished them all was a feeling worth celebrating, in my eyes. While these weren't my favourite mouthwash tabs by any means, Zephyrus were definitely a good choice to end up with last. 

Having already experienced the intensity of Supherb Toothy Tabs, I mistakenly left these little mouthwash tabs to last, only because they were a similar colour and therefore (I thought) a similar flavour. As it turned out, these mouthwash tabs couldn't have been further from the taste of the aforementioned toothy tabs and what I was left to finish with was something super fresh and naturally very beautiful. 

Containing Sicilian lemon and basil oils, the little green diamonds give off a wonderfully rich herbal smell, with a big dosage of lemon that rounds the fragrance off with a big bang. To my nose, the smell reminds me of a fresh lemonade that's been packed full of fresh basil leaves: it's crisp, refreshing and utterly gorgeous!

When popping one of these into your mouth, it takes mere seconds for a very intense but equally beautiful flavour to engulf your senses. The lemon oil brings about a bright, fruity element to the taste, which for a second or so is slightly bitter before it sweetens and settles in your mouth. Alongside this, the fresh taste of basil wraps around your tongue and offers a very natural herbal taste that compliments the lemon perfectly. I would never have envisaged that these two components would work well together as a mouthwash but they do, and they leave your mouth feeling really clean and fresh on top of this.

To use a solid mouth wash tab, you simply crunch the tab between your teeth, take a slurp of water and begin swishing. Once you've finished, you then spit the water into the sink and your whole mouth should feel super clean and refreshed: ready to brace the rest of the day without worrying about smelly breath or food from your lunch remaining stuck between your teeth. It's recommended that you keep the mouthwash in your mouth for a good minute. This allows the ingredients to get to work at cleaning the mouth and deodorising the tongue so you get the maximum results possible.  

As you would expect from Lush, the ingredients that have gone into making all three of the mouthwash varieties have also been carefully crafted and serve a purpose. Firstly, they all contain sodium bicarbonate, which is a natural softening ingredient that is also known for its ability to clean and deodorise at the same time. This is a key component that will help to clean your tongue, gums and teeth when you're swishing, and will help to rid your mouth of any strong odours that might be present at the time, freshening your breath in the process.

Each of the mouthwashes also contains xylitol - a natural substance that is found in certain fruits and vegetables and is used in foods and cosmetics as a refined sweetener. This ingredient has been proven to cause none of the harmful effects that sugar can have on the teeth, is perfect for diabetics as it doesn't effect blood sugar levels at all, yet offers the sweetness to help give these tabs their interesting but enjoyable flavours.

Sometimes Lush surprise me with their pairings and I honestly couldn't get enough of the Zephyrus Mouthwash Tabs. They clean your mouth out thoroughly, without burning your tongue or bringing about too much flavour; they leave your teeth feeling really shiny and clean; and they leave you with the cleanest breath I have experienced in a while.

Ultimately, these are definitely one of my favourite combinations from Lush and I would buy these again if I ever ran out. Perfect for the summer months, these little beauties would be great to slip in your bag when you're out enjoying a picnic. Not only would they leave your mouth and breath feeling super clean, but they wouldn't take away from the fresh feast you were enjoying at the time. Zephyrus are one of my favourite mouthwash tabs that Lush have ever created and they need to be made available for everybody.

Khoomei Mouthwash Tabs

Although it doesn't happen very often, there are moments when my mind goes completely blank when it comes to a familiar scent or taste. Especially when I know that a particular aroma comes from a product outside of Lush, it's near on impossible to narrow down where exactly I might have experienced it before. When it comes to Khoomei Mouthwash Tabs, I have spent near on a month trying to hunt the smell down, but to no avail as of yet...

What I will tell you about these Liverpool exclusives is that the smell they offer is near on identical to that of a regular chewing gum that you can purchase in licensed shops and supermarkets across the UK. They both smell and taste super delicious and are easily one of my favourite flavours from the extensive solid mouthwash range.

Containing lemongrass, cucumber, tea tree and spearmint, these tabs are super crisp and refreshing without being too potent, or indeed too overly minty. From the bottle, you get a sweet combination of lemongrass and spearmint, with the cucumber resting underneath, offering it's fresh and rather cooling aroma alongside the other notes. Interestingly, the lemongrass has lost quite a bit of its 'grassiness' in this format, so the smell of these tabs is a little more fruity than you might initially expect.

Alongside these notes, the inclusion of the coconut oil rounds off the smell with a delicate powdery note - which I think is what makes the fragrance of these mouthwash tabs so wonderful. You cannot actually taste the coconut at all here but its presence is definitely welcomed, and if you get a chance to try them you'll be able to recognise how this ingredient makes an impact.

Unlike many of Lush's minty oral products, Khoomei is not as potent on the senses and doesn't leave your mouth feeling at all scorched. However, what it does do is leave you with clean, fresh breath; wonderful shiny teeth; and a sweet, lemon-esque note that resides in your mouth for a good while after using one of these tabs.

As soon as you grind one of these between your teeth and add the water to rinse and swish, the wonderfully sweet, fruity and delicately minty taste fills your mouth and begins to work immediately. While all of the components I described above come out in the taste of the tab, there is nothing overwhelming about the taste of this mouthwash at all. In fact, there is something rather delicious about these little beauties that will leave you salivating (and perhaps a little hungry) afterwards.

These exclusives offer the perfect balance of taste and freshness and they're a genuine pleasure to use. Despite the rather boring demeanour that they offer, Khoomei are easily one of the most vibrant smelling and tasting oral care options from Lush. They step outside the box enough to bring something new to the table, without taking us too far from what we're looking for from a mouthwash.

Zing! Mouthwash Tabs

If you're going to start your day off as you mean to go on, some times nothing less than bright pink mouthwash tabs will be suffice. Whether you have a sweet tooth; love everything that's the colour pink; or are simply bored stiff of your usual mouthwash, these brand new little tabs might just be what you're looking for.

Zing! describes perfectly how these tabs look and taste and once you have tried them you will no doubt agree with me. In fact, if you have any reluctant older children who don't find enjoyment in brushing their teeth, these might be the perfect tool for reigniting that excitement and getting some quality extra cleaning into their routine, after they have finished brushing their teeth.

Looking like a packet straight out of a sweet shop, these wonderful little tabs offer a bright and very fruity grapefruit note from the moment you remove the lid. Coupled with the juicy addition of the litsea cubeba oil, these mouth wash tabs really do look and smell like a packet of fruity candy. In all honesty, I would probably be happy to eat the whole tub because they are so tasty, even though I wouldn't even want to imagine what would be happening to my insides after doing so.

As to be expected, Zing! Mouthwash Tabs taste equally as delicious as well. Both of the aforementioned ingredients, along with the mandarin oil comes out in full force here and presents a slightly reserved rendition of the scent itself. As you have quite a few citrus fruits featured in the ingredients list, there is definitely something zesty and almost 'fizzy' about the taste of these tabs that I loved. However, consumers will no doubt notice that they are a little more powdery and perhaps a little less fruity than what the initial fragrance promises.

What I will say about Zing! is that these mouthwash tabs are not suitable if you're someone who likes to feel the refreshing sting of the flavour in your mouth immediately afterwards; those who enjoy feeling the fire of the ingredients burning away every germ and smell that could possibly have been living in your mouth at that very moment.

These tabs are more about leaving your mouth feeling refreshed and clean, without any noticeable nasty food odours remaining, whilst leaving behind a sweet and playful fruity taste instead of something too pungent and clinical. On a day-to-day basis, these would be better suited for freshening up after a meal at work or before a meeting; perhaps not the best choice if you want something super powerful before bed. Having said that, I happen to really like Zing! and I will continue using these whenever my sweet tooth needs to be reprimanded.

Happy Pill Toothy Tabs

One thing I have learnt over the last couple of years is that the only way to become a morning person is to change your perspective on life. There is something truly magical about transitioning your mindset into feeling happiness when you wake, no matter what that time may be, and it will completely revolutionise your life if you can do so. 

Although there is not such a thing as a lie-in for me anymore and my alarm goes off most mornings at 5am, I am usually really spritely and energetic when I initially wake up. Following my routine really helps me to begin my day in the right frame of mind and set off on the right foot. And usually I experience very little in the way of 'drama' when this happens. 

However, with the recent release of all of Lush's new oral care, there are times when the 'unexpected' throws me off course for a few minutes. Putting an unexpected flavour of tooth paste in your mouth for example, can sometimes jolt you awake a little too quickly than your mind can fathom.

When I first opened the bottle of Happy Pill Toothy Tabs, I hadn't read the ingredients list and I couldn't even put into words what the brand new invention even smelled like. However, after much deliberation I truly believe that these little tabs share their scent with the Frozen Bath Bomb that discontinued a year ago.

Featuring neroli, orange flower absolute, sweet orange oil and lavender, these little tabs smell like a sophisticated yet very refreshing floral aroma. The orange flower absolute, coupled with the delicate notes of lavender, created a floral cloud that lingers about the fragrance  The neroli then adds a sweet but slightly green-like note that gives this smell its unique twist. Finally, the orange oil brings a gentle fruitiness to the mix as well.

To be honest, I'm glad that Lush have used this fragrance in other formats first. Had they introduced the toothy tabs before the rest of the Frozen range, I would have said that the aroma would have been simply wasted as merely a toothy tab. The fact that there are other beautiful products already only serves to sweeten the deal.

As with all of Lush's new toothy tabs, these particular tabs feature a number of ingredients that I was unsure about and had to research before trying them out for myself - not only to understand how and why Happy Pill work, but also to educate others about the benefits they possess. Firstly, these tabs feature  dicalcium phosphate anhydrous - the main component used to help supplement the body's calcium intake, not to mention preventing the build up of tartar in the mouth. Sorbitol is also used - a natural alternative to sugar which allows Lush to add flavour to this product without adding anything that'll rot your teeth; Lauroyl Sarcosine not only helps the product to foam up in the mouth, but is also used to remove unwanted bacteria that may cause problems in the future.

What I will say about Happy Pill is that the taste is definitely an acquired one. To be honest, I would describe the taste as being a little sweet; slightly floral; and mildly soapy, which will probably turn a lot of people away from trying these beauties. However, there is something slightly alluring about the taste of these toothy tabs that makes me think that I actually like them quite a lot.

These toothy tabs are by no means going to leave you with a refreshing taste in your mouth. However, my teeth and mouth did feel really clean after using these daily and the taste lingered long enough to keep my breath 'fresh' throughout my mornings at work. 

Much like many of Lush's non-potent tabs, you can consume food almost immediately after using these tabs and the taste won't hinder your tastebuds. For this reason, Happy Pill is great for those 'brush and go' sort of people such as myself. However, I will be honest and say that I can imagine many consumers will be a little put off by the taste that does indeed linger on the tongue, because while it isn't at all disgusting, it's definitely not one that I can describe as being particularly nice either.

Happy Pill Toothy Tabs are definitely one that I would recommend that you try for yourself, as they're a flavour that will divide fans down the middle very quickly. Having said that, if you're someone who likes their oral care to be as simple as black and white, I would definitely avoid giving these a whirl.
