Zing! Mouthwash Tabs

If you're going to start your day off as you mean to go on, some times nothing less than bright pink mouthwash tabs will be suffice. Whether you have a sweet tooth; love everything that's the colour pink; or are simply bored stiff of your usual mouthwash, these brand new little tabs might just be what you're looking for.

Zing! describes perfectly how these tabs look and taste and once you have tried them you will no doubt agree with me. In fact, if you have any reluctant older children who don't find enjoyment in brushing their teeth, these might be the perfect tool for reigniting that excitement and getting some quality extra cleaning into their routine, after they have finished brushing their teeth.

Looking like a packet straight out of a sweet shop, these wonderful little tabs offer a bright and very fruity grapefruit note from the moment you remove the lid. Coupled with the juicy addition of the litsea cubeba oil, these mouth wash tabs really do look and smell like a packet of fruity candy. In all honesty, I would probably be happy to eat the whole tub because they are so tasty, even though I wouldn't even want to imagine what would be happening to my insides after doing so.

As to be expected, Zing! Mouthwash Tabs taste equally as delicious as well. Both of the aforementioned ingredients, along with the mandarin oil comes out in full force here and presents a slightly reserved rendition of the scent itself. As you have quite a few citrus fruits featured in the ingredients list, there is definitely something zesty and almost 'fizzy' about the taste of these tabs that I loved. However, consumers will no doubt notice that they are a little more powdery and perhaps a little less fruity than what the initial fragrance promises.

As soon as you grind one of these between your teeth and add the water to rinse and swish, you can already taste the amalgamation of flavours coming together in unison. During the swishing process, you cannot really gage much of the taste at all, only that your mouth is beginning to feel rather clean and refreshing in the process. However, as soon as you spilt the mouthwash out, the wonderful sherbet-like fruitiness fills your mouth and leaves a lasting impression. It was very much like eating dessert every time I used one of these tabs.

For those who have never used a mouthwash tab before, you simply crunch the tab between your teeth (I prefer to do this with my front teeth), take a slurp of water and begin swishing as you would a bottled mouthwash. Once you've finished, you spit the water into the sink and you're ready to brace the rest of the day without worrying about smelly breath, or the food from your lunch remaining stuck between your teeth. Lush recommend that you keep the mouthwash swishing around your mouth for a good minute before spitting it out, as this allows the ingredients to get to work at cleaning the mouth and deodorising the tongue so you get the maximum results possible.

As you would expect from Lush, the ingredients that have gone into making Zing! have also been carefully crafted and serve a purpose. Firstly, they contain sodium bicarbonate, which is a natural softening ingredient that is also known for its ability to clean and deodorise at the same time. This is a key component that will help to clean your tongue, gums and teeth when you're swishing, and will help to rid your mouth of any strong odours that might be present at the time, freshening your breath in the process.

Each of the mouthwashes also contains xylitol, a natural substance that is found in certain fruits and vegetables and is used in foods and cosmetics as a refined sweetener. This ingredient has been proven to cause none of the harmful effects that sugar can have on the teeth; is perfect for diabetics as it doesn't effect blood sugar levels at all; yet offers the sweetness to help give these tabs their interesting but enjoyable flavours.

Whether you're popping out for a day at the beach; making a weekend trip to see the family; or jet-setting off to somewhere exciting, these 45g bottles can be tucked away with the assurance that you wont arrive at your destination with either soggy luggage, or with the lingering smells of your breakfast still festering on your tongue. Furthermore, they're also alcohol-free so these beauties wont cause you any issues when you're going through customs. No matter the length of your journey, these are handy to use at any time of the day: before you head out on your adventure; after a meal; or anytime you feel you need a little freshen up.

What I will say about Zing! is that these mouthwash tabs are not suitable if you're someone who likes to feel the refreshing sting of the flavour in your mouth immediately afterwards; those who enjoy feeling the fire of the ingredients burning away every germ and smell that could possibly have been living in your mouth at that very moment.

These tabs are more about leaving your mouth feeling refreshed and clean, without any noticeable nasty food odours remaining, whilst leaving behind a sweet and playful fruity taste instead of something too pungent and clinical. On a day-to-day basis, these would be better suited for freshening up after a meal at work or before a meeting; perhaps not the best choice if you want something super powerful before bed. Having said that, I happen to really like Zing! and I will continue using these whenever my sweet tooth needs to be reprimanded.

Tornado Toothpaste Jelly

Cinnamon is hands-down my favourite spice ever. There is something so warming and rounded and sweet about its aroma that has me salivating every time I even get the slightest of whiffs. I remember with fondness how excited I used to get when I was allowed to spend the evening with a box of Atomic Bomb sweets as a kid, even if the name sounds rather passive aggressive to my adult self.

You can imagine my excitement then when I discovered that Tornado, one of ten brand new innovative toothpaste jellies that Lush have recently brought out, is an explosion of cinnamon like no other. If the mere mention of the 'c' word has you grappling for the exit, you may wish to move house if someone in your neighbourhood even so much as suggests that they may be tempted into buying a pot.

Unfortunately for cinnamon lovers such as myself, these toothpaste jellies are only currently available in Lush's Liverpool (England) and Shinjuku (Japan) stores. However, I do hope that these brand new inventions appear on the website and in all stores in the coming months because it seems a shame that something this good is limited to so few consumers.

Fierce and Fire-y in design, this toothpaste jelly boasts the same heat when it comes to its ingredients list. Both a cinnamon bark infusion and a cinnamon oil have gone into making this unique jelly, which also has a generous helping of both mandarin and pine oils underneath to often the blow a little and add a subtle complexity that I simply adored.

From the tub, Tornado offers a strong burst of cinnamon, which is both dry and spicy at the same time. You can definitely tell that the fragrance has come from the cinnamon bark because you can almost imagine the bark present in front of your nose every time you give it a sniff. The inclusion of the mandarin oil then helps to add a little fruitiness; a little sweetness to the mixture that rounds the aroma off wonderfully. As if this wasn't enough, the inclusion of the pine oil seems to clash a little with the cinnamon and add a gentle note of 'green' that threads itself around the other components.

While I can see the resemblance between this and Cinders Shower Gel, I happen to think that there's far more layers when it comes to the shower gel and this toothpaste jelly is far stronger in heat. As you can imagine, the taste replicates this notion as well...

As soon as I began brushing, I could feel the intensity of the cinnamon around my entire mouth, although it didn't cause any burn or stinging that stronger toothpastes can sometimes arouse. Instead, the cinnamon cleared and refreshened my palette whilst the mandarin served to add a little fruitiness to the overall taste. Having said that, my tongue was left tingling a little after I washed my mouth out and this continued for a good ten minutes before slowly disappearing.

The idea with all of these new tooth jellies is that you simply scoop your toothbrush across the top of the surface of the product and a small amount (or however much you wish to use) will rub off onto the bristles, and this is what you use to brush your teeth with. With all ten of these new jellies, I found that it was very easy to apply only the smallest of amount to my brush: I barely dented the surface at all to begin with, so these little 60g pots will last you a very long time. In fact, I would even say that they may outlast that of a regular-sized 200g tube of toothpaste.

Once I began brushing, I found that it 'lathered up' exactly like a regular toothpaste and at no point did I feel or experience any jelly pieces still in my mouth. The product dissolved very quickly and then worked exactly as you would hope a tooth paste would do so. Furthermore, I was able to spit the paste out multiple times and never once ran out of foam on my toothbrush. These jellies are super generous when it comes to how much foam they produce in your mouth, despite how little product you need to use. Whereas I would normally use a pea-sized amount of toothpaste, I was able to use a piece the size of a grain of rice and yet heed the same results.

What I would say is that as the product is self preserving, it's important to keep your toothbrush fairly dry when you run it across the product. Adding moisture of any kind to these naked cosmetics could reduce the shelf life of the jelly and may open up the possibility of bacteria multiplying over time. For this reason, it's also essential that the lid is left on so as not to attract any unwanted germs. Given that I can imagine one of these pots lasting me a good 3-4 months as a minimum, I certainly wouldn't want the paste exposed to any bacteria, if I can help it. 

Once I had finished using Tornado Toothpaste Jelly, I could feel how smooth and shiny my teeth were and my mouth felt super refreshed. While I could still taste the sweet cinnamon in my mouth, it wasn't overpowering at all and I could have happily eaten straight afterwards without any problem. Having said that, there was enough potency to keep my breath fresh for a good while afterwards.

As I will say in all of my toothpaste jelly reviews, it's also nice not to have to prepare myself for annoying lumps of tab when I rinse my mouth out afterwards. Tornado simply dissolved as soon as I started brushing and there wasn't any wastage from bits getting stuck in my teeth or falling out when I spat into the sink.

As with most of Lush's new toothpaste jellies, this one contains many key ingredients to actually help this product to act like a toothpaste. Hydrated silica works well as a whitening and teeth cleaning agent: helping to remove the stains from the surface of your teeth without damaging the enamel. Then there is xylitol, which is a natural sweetener that doesn't contain any fructose, so will help to protect your teeth from damage, and will hopefully help to reduce your risk of cavities over time.

If you haven't already realised, Tornado is for cinnamon lovers through and through and makes a great alternative to mint-tasting toothpastes. This toothpaste still offers the feeling of a clean, refreshed mouth but with a lovely twist, which I happen to love. This is definitely one of my favourite toothpaste jellies by far.

Mandarin Fireworks Toothy Tabs

Sometimes Lush do things a little too much in excess which isn't exactly a good thing for consumer's wallets. With the recent opening of the new Liverpool superstore, the company chose to bring out ten brand new variations of toothy tabs, as well as ten brand new mouthwash tabs alongside these. While this now means that they have a seriously impressive range to choose from, these additional products don't exactly narrow it down for those of us who want to choose the right one for our tastebuds and our teeth.

To aide consumers with their purchases and help fans to decide which toothy tabs are the ones worth investing in first, I have been trialing them all out by myself so I can offer extensive reviews on all of them throughout this blog. For those still unsure of their choices, I hope that these reviews help you to make the right ones with your money.

Mandarin Fireworks is one of ten limited edition toothy tabs that first made an appearance at the Lush Showcase event early this year. They have since set up camp solely in the Liverpool store as an exclusive product and I was lucky enough to know somebody that was willing to grab a bottle of them for me to try out for myself.

Sold as little circular orange tabs, on the front of the bottle it reads: 'an explosion of Szechuan pepper tingles the tongue while a triple dose of juicy mandarin brings an appeeling flavour.' It probably would have helped me to have read this part first because my experience was a rather strange one that took me quite a while to figure out what exactly was actually happening in my mouth.

Containing three different mandarin oils, it's no surprise then that these toothy tabs both smell and taste very much like a heightened mandarin dessert. From the moment these little gems are placed in your mouth, you can taste the natural sweetness of the citrus oils, and it's very much like brushing your teeth with a rather yummy tasting mandarin sweet. It's tart, fruity, sharp and sweet all at once and it lingers long in your mouth after you've rinsed away the foam.

What is strange about these toothy tabs in that halfway through brushing, you begin to experience a little tingling on your tongue, which intensifies a little and gives a very odd sensation in your mouth. It's almost as if the bitter taste of biting into an unpeeled orange has been placed on the tip of your tongue, whereas the rest of your mouth just tastes of regular mandarin. It's a very odd experience for sure but equally made me recognise just how fresh and clean my mouth felt at particular moment in time.

As with most of Lush's other toothy tabs, Mandarin Fireworks contain a number of ingredients that work in the same way as regular toothpaste does: dicalcium phosphate anhydrous is the main ingredient in these toothy tabs and is a component used to help supplement the body's calcium intake, not to mention preventing the build up of tartar in the mouth; sorbitol is a natural alternative to sugar, which allows Lush to add flavour to this product without adding anything that'll rot your teeth; Lauroyl Sarcosine not only helps the product to foam up in the mouth but is also used to remove unwanted bacteria that may cause problems in the future.

To use them you simply pop a tab into your mouth, crunch down using your front teeth, wet your toothbrush and begin to brush your teeth as normal. The powdery mixture reacts with the water and the cream of tartar creates a foam that freshens your mouth and cleans away any stubborn pieces of food that may be lingering around. Unlike some of Lush's other tabs I have tried, this one melts almost immediately upon contact with moisture and you won't need to crunch these at all.

What I liked about these tabs was that they produced a rather generous foam when in use, and even when I rinsed my mouth out halfway through, I was still able to stimulate a lot more foam when beginning to brush my teeth again. I found that I could continue brushing my teeth for a good 5 minutes without running out of product and they left my mouth feeling thoroughly clean afterwards. 

While these tabs won't leave you with amazingly minty-fresh breath, and this may be something you'll have to get used to, it does leave a pleasant taste on the palette and provides you with clean-feeling teeth. Although these are the first ones I have tried from the new collection, I thoroughly enjoyed using these and felt that my teeth and breath remained fresh for a good many hours after brushing my teeth in the morning. For those who dislike the heavy taste that mint can leave in your mouth, these would be a great alternative and I have been enjoying using these during my working day to keep my mouth super clean until lunchtime.

Containing enough tabs for three months of daily brushing once or twice, this small bottle will last you a long time. And while they may work out a little more expensive than a tub of toothpaste, they're definitely worth the price tag - if only for the novelty of trying a flavour that is far more interesting than the hum drum of mint that you may be used to. The fact that these are easy to transport on holiday as well only serves to make me appreciate them even more. These are definitely ones I would purchase again.

Sunset FUN Bar

One of eleven exclusive FUN bars that are currently only available from the Liverpool store, Sunset was easily one of the products that I was most excited to get my hands on. While I'm still rather clueless as to what many of the exclusives smell like, this particular bar I had read about before, so I already knew that I was going to love it.

Sharing its scent with The Brightside Bubble Bar, this gorgeous vibrant orange beauty is as uplifting and as stunning as its name suggests. Packed full of mandarin and tangerine oils, this bar offers a juicy, fruity aroma with a sharp citrusy edge to finish. It's super bright and fresh and doesn't compromise the natural sweetness of any of the oils used.

As with all of the other FUN bars that Lush offer, this one is versatile in how you use it and does a great job in each role. Firstly, this is a great replacement for either your shower jelly, soap or gel. Simply take a small piece (about the size of a grape), wet it under the shower hose and massage it directly across your body. The bar foams up a treat and produces an impressive amount of light, fluffy lather that can be distributed across your skin with ease.

Just like Lush's shower gels, this bar leaves your skin really clean and with a super fruity fragrance to accompany you for a short while after you've towelled yourself down. While it's not as moisturising as the gels and jellies, I don't find FUN bars to be as drying on the skin as soap can be, even though they don't offer the complex scents you'd expect with Lush soaps.  

Secondly, FUN can be used in much the same way as a bubble bar: crumbling a small piece under the running tap to produce some bubbles as part of a cocktail. What I will say is that you don't get much more than just a light shade of orange in the water when using this particular one, and it's definitely not as moisturising as an actual bubble bar. However, I did find that I could smell the Fun Bar alongside Groovy Kind Of Love Bath Bomb, which I added during one of my bath cocktails. Although it did produce some bubbles to go with the scent, these didn't seem to stick around for too long after I entered the bath. Having said all of this, Sunset definitely doesn't replicate the original bubble bar, and I would suggest using this in other ways and stick to The Brightside when you want those mounds of bubbles.   

Finally, FUN can be used as a replacement for a shampoo. While I haven't tried this (due to the number of new shampoos that Lush have unleashed on us recently) I can imagine it would lather up well and leave your hair smelling super gorgeous afterwards.

Much like I've stated in all of my reviews, you will need to consider how to store this product between uses, as it has a tendency to leave a sticky mess on any side it is left, if wet. While I love the fact that it's not in pot so it saves on packaging, you will need to keep this FUN Bar cool and dry in between showers. I would suggest breaking off a few pieces and storing them in a pot, away from any possible running water, as this will prolong the life of the bar. 

For £3.95, this little 100g bar isn't the most expensive of investments and I have thoroughly enjoyed using this in my morning showers as it is the perfect 'wake me up' before the gym. My only issue with Sunset is that it's now got me dreaming about a Brightside-scented shower gel, which at the moment isn't available to buy.

Crazy Train Bath Bomb

If I'm in the right mood for it, Lush's playful designs really bring alive the child inside of me, and it's a lovely feeling to see the youthful glow that it brings to my cheeks. As someone who considers themselves to be very creative, bath bombs such as this one spark an extra dosage of excitement inside of me, and I couldn't wait to try it out for size.

Shaped like a locomotive, Crazy Train Bath Bomb wouldn't go amiss on the shelf of a Harrods store: a beautiful blue and red-shaped train with a little scroll of blue paper tucked in the top. This latter feature gives you the opportunity to write a little message to the receiver of this bath bomb, which adds an extra special touch for the father in your life to enjoy.

Sharing its scent with the Prince fragrance - including the recent body spray that was released earlier this year - this bath bomb offers a wonderful combination of mandarin, neroli, orange flower and vetivert.To my nose, the orange flower and the mandarin are the strongest notes to begin with. Crazy Train offers a bitter, green-like fruity smell, that reminds me very much of the smell you get when peeling a fresh satsuma - that sweet citrus aroma with a slight tartness from the peel.

However, alongside this there is a wonderful layer of vetivert that gives this bath bomb a woody base to work from: offering a complexity that is somewhat lost in the shower gel format, but is definitely present here. Having been using the body spray recently, I can honestly vouch that this bath bomb is very close to replicating the scent almost perfectly. 

What I appreciated the most however, was the fragrance when the bath bomb was placed in the water. That's when the citrusy elements of the mandarin and neroli came out in full force, and it was strong enough to leave me feeling like a peeled - but very contented - orange afterwards. The scent was super strong in the water, and I would recommend this to anybody who needs something to help motivate them first thing in the morning.

As if the fragrance wasn't already impressive, the bath bomb itself created a stunning show in the tub. Immediately fizzing upon contact with the water, Crazy Train released a stunning show of thick blue, red and white swirls across the surface. Within seconds, the water had turned a stunning shade of dark blue, and the smell was radiating around the room at the same time. 

Once fully dissolved, I noticed straight away that the water felt super thick and sultry: I could almost feel my skin becoming more and more nourished by the second. After bathing for almost an hour in the tub, I was left with the softest skin I could possibly achieve, and the gentle smell of orange wrapped itself around my body like a warm hug. 

I don't know what the Lush community need to do to convince Lush that most of this year's Father's Day range needs to become permanent, but I only hope the big bosses consider how wonderful Crazy Train would be as a regular bath bomb. I for one, would be buying one of these every few weeks, if it was always in shops, and the only bath bomb that I'd invest more in would be the classic Intergalactic.

Easy Peeler Body Scrub

While it may not exactly be the healthiest habit I have, there is something about giving my skin a good scrub, before I head to the gym, that sets my day off right. Even when I can see that my skin is a little parched in the morning, I still find so much enjoyment knowing that I'm removing all of the dirt and debris before my day out in the world. 

When the description of Easy Peeler Body Scrub reached my ears and eyes, I just knew that it would be revered in my house. What I didn't realise was just how much I would fall in love with this scrub, and claim that it is possibly one of my top three favourite Lush scrubs of all time. These are serious accolades guys!

This brand new exclusive product is everything you could possibly want in a scrub. Packed full of key ingredients to tone, replenish and infuse your skin, this solid beauty also delivers a fragrance worth salivating over time and time again. If you're as big of a citrus fan as I am, you'll need to purchase one of these before you get to the end of this sentence. 

As the pictures demonstrate, this little scrub is designed to look like the very fruits that have gone into making this marvellous. Tangerine and mandarin oils are what gives Easy Peeler a magnificently strong, rich and very fruity aroma. Like biting into a perfectly ripe orange, the fragrance you experience with this one is as sharp and refreshing juicy as the fruit itself. 

Alongside these two oils, Lush have also indulged our skin with a helping of both mango butter and apricot kernel oil to help moisturise and add to the aroma; and orange peel to give the scrub a tangy note whilst also helping to protect your skin after it has been buffered.

To use, you simply massage Easy Peeler across the skin in a circular motion; applying as much or as little pressure as you'd like, to scrub and buffer your skin to your heart's content. What I would recommend, as I always do with solid scrubs such as this, is that you should try not to hold this under the running water for too long. By stepping outside of the shower whilst working this product across your body, will mean that you'll increase its lifespan and get more uses for your money.

The scrub itself is quite a scratchy one, just like the Dirty Body Scrub that I reviewed recently. However, the inclusion of so many butters and oils means that once you've rinsed away the product, your skin already begins to feel super soft and smooth. Furthermore, there is something super refreshing about so many citrus oils being applied to your skin, that you'll notice almost a radiant glow about your body that wasn't there before.

As if the delicious fragrance wasn't enough to enjoy in the shower, I could still detect this on my skin almost an hour after I had towelled myself down. You may find it difficult not to want to lick your skin, because of how fruity the scent is that is left behind. However, I speak from experience when I say that you WILL NOT taste like a Solero ice cream. Sorry to dash any dreams!

Having used Easy Peeler over the last couple of days, it's safe to say that this robust scrub will last a while, so long as you keep it somewhere dry in between uses, and buffer outside of the running water. All I can say is that this little beauty needs to become a permanent product, or else somebody might just see the fruity side to my personality!

Plum Rain Shower Jelly

Wibble, wobble, wobble, wobble, jelly on a plate...

I'll be honest and say that I wasn't overly excited about the prospect of this particular shower jelly coming out, if only because the shower gel version is available all year round online and in some stores. Whilst probably the best 'recent' shower gel that Lush have ever released, it doesn't mean that I need a solidified, wobbly version of the same thing again. However, there is always something magic about a new Lush shower jelly, and I couldn't help but pick one up after the recent Lush Community release.

What is impressive about Plum Rain Shower Jelly is that it replicates the fragrance of the original shower gel so well; and in fact I found that the scent of this was perhaps even a little better than the gel, making it even more desirable than I originally thought I would ever find it.

What made the shower gel so scrumptious was the fact that the key ingredient featured was umeboshi, which is a Japanese salt plum that has both a sweet, sour and salty taste to it. In the liquid gel format, the inclusion of this gave the shower gel a smell that sat somewhere between stewed plums and fresh apricots. Delicious to say the least.

In the shower jelly however, this component doesn't appear to be featured, and instead there is the combined force of plum oil, plum balsamic vinegar and fresh plum juice, all of which give this limited edition a scent that will have you salivating before you even enter the shower. I think it may be the plum balsamic vinegar element that makes the scent of this even sweeter and more fruity than the shower gel, and for that I am very grateful.

Alongside these fruity notes, the petigrain and osmanthus oils ground the fragrance with a fresh, green-like twist that sits just slightly below the juiciness of the plum. While there are times when I wish these elements weren't there, and that I could just appreciate the mouthwatering fruitiness by itself, these other components help to ground the smells together and give the shower jelly a depth that it would not have otherwise been able to offer.

When you begin to use Plum Rain Shower Jelly in the shower, you'll discover that it lathers up really well - creating light, frothy and very fragrant suds to massage across the skin. Although it can be a little fiddly, I found that either blending it up with a little water to create a shower gel; or cutting it up into smaller pieces to use individually, worked far better than trying to hold the whole thing in the shower at once. And when I say you need a minuscule amount, I mean that I was taking pieces that were the size of raisins in the shower and being able to wash my entire body from the foam created - meaning I've been using this beauty for the last three weeks and I have barely made a dent in the tub at all.

I would honestly choose this over the shower gel, if I had a choice, which is now the second time I have said this regarding the company's recent shower jelly release. Either my tastebuds are changing or Lush are getting better at replicating the fragrances in shower jelly format, and making their products just overly better.
