Polar Bear Plunge Bubble Bar

One of the recurring themes that tends to come up in discussions about Lush products is this understanding that mint is a really uplifting, and very healing fragrance to use to benefit your mental health. While I have always found mint aromas have the power to elevate my spirit at times, I have never truly understood the full extent of their healing capacities until recently.

With the downfall of my mental health in recent months, Polar Bear Plunge Bubble Bar couldn't have come at a better time. This spearmint-scented beauty not only offered me one of the most moisturising baths I have had in a long time, but recognising how much this product was also able to improve my mental health that particular day was simply astounding.

Firstly, let's start with the fact that this bubble bar is perhaps one of the cutest bath products that Lush have ever created. Who would not want to bathe with a miniature version of one of the most beautiful creatures on our planet? Everything about this Christmas special has been perfectly crafted: from it's size, shape, design and scent, and would be the perfect stocking filler for adult and child alike.

What I love about Polar Bear is that it epitomises a very basic design and fragrance. Whereas I would normally shy away from quite basic smells, there is something rather comforting about the simplicity of this scent, and the fact that it doesn't add any colour to the bath water as well. For this latter reason, this bubble bar would work well with any other bath bomb you wish to combine it with - adding a cooling, refreshing undertone to indulge yourself in.

Having said that, this limited edition is perhaps not as strong as you would initially envisage it to be. In fact, I was rather surprised to discover that the 'bite' of the spearmint is fairly tame compared to other Lush products that feature this ingredient as a key component. Therefore, if you dislike strong mint scents, this one is definitely far tamer than you would imagine.

Strangely, when crumbling this under the running water, I found that the consistency is very on par with that of a reusable bubble bar. I discovered that it was very difficult to actually break the bubble bar apart, and simply holding it under the running water was enough to generate a generous amount of bubbles in my bath tub.

In fact, I would say that it would be far more conducive to cut the bubble bar into 3-4 pieces beforehand, and only use part of the Polar Bear with each bath. This makes this seasonal special really good value for money in my eyes, as it works out at roughly £1.25 per bath. Compared to a £4 bath oil, this seems a little more reasonable.

Despite its lack of colour in the tub, the softness of the water was really obvious from the moment I submerged beneath the surface. Within a matter of minutes the condition of my skin felt completely different: it was far softer; more velvet to the touch; and it just appeared incredibly nourished. This feeling continued for the rest of the day and into the next, without needing to use a body lotion or massage bar afterwards.

Ultimately, I can see why there has been so much hype surrounding this bubble bar, as it is quite simply a perfect product. The design itself is utterly cute; the scent is strong enough to last long after the plug has been pulled, yet not so strong to overwhelm the senses; the way it nourishes and improves the condition of your skin, and enhances your mental health is simply phenomenon. This needs to become a regular member of the Lush range, and I would highly recommend that you grab yourself one of these before the year is out.

Party Balloon Gold Reusable Bubble Bar

As part of their 'party products' collection, Lush have brought out five different reusable bubble bars in the shape of balloons. Sporting either a gold, purple, green, pink or silver colour, these limited editions share the same aroma, but are only exclusively available when you organise a party through the Liverpool store. Feeling generous, Lush released a handful of these for a very limited time last month and I was lucky enough to grab one for myself.

Party Balloon Gold Reusable Bubble Bar is a beautiful design: an orange bubble bar with a gentle coating of lustre that leaves a shimmer on the surface of the product, and in your bath tub after the first use. While fairly small in size, I was able to use mine across three rather splendid baths, which made this limited edition great value for money.

Containing grapefruit and lime oils, this bubble bar is very much like the Elsie The Giraffe (You're Having A Laugh) Bubble Bar: a bright and very citrusy aroma. Both the lime and grapefruit offer their own fruity notes in this collaboration, and the results are something uplifting and and very fresh. This is definitely not a smell that would win any awards for being particularly interesting, but it does its job and works well with the design it comes as.

After holding it under the water for a matter of seconds, the golden lustre disappears into the water and you're left with a bright orange bubble bar to contend with. As you would expect, this turns the water the same shade of colour, and having held it under the tap for a good minute, the water is actually quite colourful and strong.

What I will say about Party Balloon Gold is that you need to really swish with either your hands or the bubble bar itself, in order to generate the bubbles you wish to have. Simply holding it under the tap wont heed very much at all, so you'll need to put some work in if you want a layer of light, fluffy bubbles to indulge yourself with.

Once in the water, I found that the scent wasn't particularly strong in and around the tub, but my nose was able to grapple with both the lime and grapefruit oils on occasions as I was bathing. This meant that when I towelled myself down, the fragrance hadn't lingered at all on my skin, and it certainly didn't stick around any time afterwards either.

This is definitely a bubble bar that I would use alongside a bath bomb, as I feel it acts as more of a supportive role than being good enough to be used by itself. What I will say is that Party Balloon Gold was fairly moisturising, as far as reusable bubble bars go, and I did notice a difference to the water once I had used this in the tub. My skin did feel lovely and smooth after bathing with this and my skin also felt mildly radiant as well, which is due to the inclusion of the citrus oils.

Ultimately, this is great as a novelty purchase and for somebody who wants to enjoy the ultimate party experience in store. However, there is nothing particularly special about this bubble and it doesn't really stand out as being all that different from the many reusables that we have seen over the last twelve months.

Pop Bubble Bar

As soon as I saw this bubble bar, I just knew it would become one of my firm favourites. For the last six years, Roy Lichtenstein has been my go-to artist when teaching art to my children and every single one of my classes have adored the project of creating their own pop art to finish the year. What better way of celebrating that summer is fast-approaching than by bathing in the concept as well.

Pop Bubble Bar is not only inspired by the work of a male artist but the reference to the nickname 'pops' is probably how Lush have managed to link this product into the Father's Day range this year. However, while it may definitely pertain references that let it rest, it's definitely the odd one out when it comes to scent and design.
Sharing its scent with the likes of Snowman Shower Jelly and FUN Bar, not to mention the most recently released Star Spell Bath Bomb, this bubble bar offers a fragrance that is incredibly uplifting; bright and super refreshing. If you enjoy smells that are both fruity and zesty at the same time, you will want to grab one of these before they disappear from the shelves.

Featuring buchu, lemon and bergamot oils, this bubble bar has a strong - and what I would describe as being a - fizzy, fruity aroma: one that is best suited for those who enjoy uplifting, playful yet rather simplistic smells. As I have said in many reviews of other products featuring this scent, the main note I pick up from this smell is one of fresh tropical juice but with a sherberty twist. The buchu and lemon combine really well in this format, and the juicy combination offers up something a little different from just the normal citrus-scented creations.

It's definitely not the worlds most complex aroma by any means. However, with the warmer months approaching fast, this is definitely one I can see myself using either when I want to wake myself up first thing in the morning, or when I want to freshen up after a long day under the sweltering heat. Having said that, the idea that England will offer anything close to sweltering temperatures is even a little too much of wishful thinking to begin with.
As with nearly all of Lush's bubble bars, this one crumbles with ease under the running tap, although I would suggest that you divide this into smaller pieces to conserve the product across two or three baths. Within seconds the water begins to feel softer between my hands; the red and yellow design helped to spread a wonderfully warming shade of orange throughout the water; and the fragrance engulfed the bathroom. There was also a generous amount of silky-soft bubbles to submerge myself beneath, although these tend to disperse within the first fifteen minutes of being in the bath.

After using just under half of the bar, I was really impressed with how incredible my skin felt afterwards. Pop is one of those bath products that can make a huge difference to the quality of your skin, and my body felt so nourished and radiant after I had towelled myself down. Not only this but the smell stayed with me throughout the whole bath, as well as lingering on both my skin and around the bathroom for a good hour or so after the plug had been pulled.

The inclusion of the cocoa butter in this bubble bar meant that I didn't feel the need to moisturise afterwards, yet my skin remained beautify soft and, as I said above, radiant throughout the whole day. Furthermore, my mood was instantly uplifted and I felt able to face the day on minimal hours of sleep.
While it sticks out like a sore thumb in the Father's Day range, it's a very welcome release from me, and I will definitely be stocking up on a few more of these before they disappear from the shelves. Given how moisturising it is, I was even considering breaking this bubble bar into eight very small pieces and just using a little, along with a bath bomb, to infuse those extra butters into the water.

Pop Bubble Bar is a great addition to the Lush family and will certainly be very popular for those who enjoy fruity fragrances. Like the sunrise in the early morning, this limited edition offers you a beautiful, refreshing warming hug to either start your day, or chase away those cobwebs after a long one.

GRL Power Bubble Bar

It's strange to think that I was only nine when the Spice Girls broke out onto the scene, because I still remember so vividly how much they changed my life. Suddenly, I had a project to focus all of my attention on: I had other females who I found myself looking up to and modelling my behaviour on: and I can never forget the buzz that they generated and instilled in my peer groups, for years to come.

So when I saw GRL Power Bubble Bar featured in this year's Mother's Day range, my immediate reaction was to try and remember what the 90's smelt like to me - a task that proved impossible, given my selective memory. What I will say is that this limited edition bubble bar doesn't hold a fragrance like anything I remember about that period in my life, but it definitely made an impression on me nevertheless.

Sharing its scent with last year's Princess Bomb Bomb Bath Bomb, this bubble bar is very far removed from the fruity aroma that you may have assumed it would hold given its vivid design. Instead, GRL Power has a delicate and very light floral aroma, with just a touch of woodiness to round the fragrance off.

Similar to the Christmas Eve Bubble Bar from a few years ago, this limited edition is far from offensive, and I honestly cannot imagine anyone saying that they dislike it, aside from perhaps finding it a little boring. This is for consumers who want a gentle scent with their warm water: one that holds a lasting impression in the water, but one that equally doesn't cloud the senses.

The smell to my nose is a wonderfully sweet, floral aroma – one that combines the bergamot, cedarwood and ylang ylang together so delicately and beautifully.  Together, these three components create a fragrance that is slightly powdery, slightly musky, sweet but natural, and one that is subtle yet makes a strong enough impression in the bath tub. What I will say is that I actually preferred the scent of this in the bubble bar format, as I found it a little more robust, as well as being more pronounced in the water, so I was able to appreciate each component more.

It was a little stubborn to crumble under the tap, but once its exposed to water it tends to soften a little. Once you've crumbled all or part of the bubble bar, the aroma engulfs the bathroom for hours, without being at all overbearing. You can detect the scent for the entirety of the time you remain in the tub, and there are even remnants left on your skin and afterwards. Furthermore, the water is beautifully sultry and silky, and left my skin feeling replenished and super healthy afterwards.

Given its size, GRL Power will easily stretch across four separate baths, making it good value for money. Furthermore, the bubble bar will turn the water a gentle shade of translucent purple, although you may wish to add a bath bomb if you want a more vivid colour to bathe in.

After using a piece of this, I enjoyed a very relaxing bath with a wonderfully prolonged scent and a tub of water that left my skin feeling really clean and smooth afterwards. This may not remind me of my Spice Girl days, but it definitely uplifts and empowers me before a long and productive day.

Quantitative Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Cream of Tartar, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Lauryl Betaine, Cornflour, Perfume, Bergamot Oil, Cedarwood Oil, Ylang Ylang Oil, Benzoin Resinoid, Cornstarch, Benzyl Benzoate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Hydroxycitronellal, *Limonene, *Linalool, Colour 42090:2, Colour 17200, Colour 45410, Colour 14700.

Open Your Heart Bubble Bra

Every so often, Lush releases a scent that impacts on the community so much that you can almost feel the buzz of the chatter behind the screen of your phone. When Golden Pear Soap first made an appearance, you could tell within a matter of days that something big was about to go down for the avid consumers.

Since the release of that seasonal soap a couple of years ago, Lush have continued to bring out more and more products with the same fragrance. Some great, some not so great, but I can honestly say that Open Your Heart Bubble Bra is what Golden Pear Bath Bomb should have been, but better.

Containing orange, sandalwood and cardamon oil, this limited edition bubble bra is succulently fruity yet equally grounded as well. My nose picks up the smell of sweet stewed pears which is both warming and refreshing. Alongside this, there is a delicate note of the cardamom and sandalwood that gives the bubble bar a gentle woodiness as well.

Given its design, Open Your Heart is definitely one that will make a mess if you don't store it properly, and as I suggest only using half of this for each bath, so you're going to have to place it somewhere carefully if you do the same.

In its favour, this limited edition is super easy to crumble, and the thick centre of butters that stick the two ends together, really help to give the water a boost of extra nourishment which you skin will thank you for. I found that the water was beautifully sultry throughout, and the impact it had on my skin was instantaneous.

Having said that, I was rather disappointed to discover that you don't get a lot of bubbles for your money. Whether this is because of the generous helping of both cocoa and murumuru butters, or a predict default, Open Your Heart didn't heed that many bubbles, even when I swished my hands throughout the tub. The bubbles that I did manage to create didn't stick around for too long afterwards either, which was a shame.

Despite this, I was really impressed by the strength of the fragrance during my bath. While it was never going to be a scent that engulfed the entire room, I was able to sweet the note of sweet pear throughout the whole bath, and the smell even lingered on the ends of my hair for a short time afterwards. Compared to Golden Pear Bath Bomb, this bubble bra offered so much more, and was much closer to the original scent than both the bath bomb and the body spray that was released a couple of months ago.

Overall, I think this is a lovely edition to the Valentine's Day this year. A little more scent and a little more bubble action and I think I might have rated it much higher than I did. However, I can recognise that this will be a popular purchase this season. This will definitely be one that I buy again before they disappear.

Quantitative Ingredients: Sodium Bicarbonate, Cream of Tartar, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter, Murumuru Butter, Lauryl Betaine, Perfume, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Laureth 4, Cardamom Oil, Brazilian Orange Oil, Sandalwood Oil, Cornflour, Titanium Dioxide, Fair Trade Shea Butter, Gardenia Extract, Water (Aqua), Silica, Tin Oxide, Citronellol, Coumarin, *Limonene, Colour 77491, Colour 19140, Colour 15510.

Love Token Reusable Bubble Bar

If there's one thing glitter does, it divides the Lush community very quickly, and can sway a consumer within seconds as to whether or not they want to invest in a product. Those who dislike glitter would have probably taken one look of this reusable bubble bar and run screaming from the shop. Although with reactions that adverse, we doubt these people would even have ventured into a Lush store to begin with.

Love Token Reusable Bubble Bar is a lovely idea in theory: a bubble bar with the words 'Thank You' etched onto the surface and coated in a beautiful layer of golden lustre. For all that they do for us, a partner or friend would be grateful to receive one of these as a token of our love for them - unless that person is the aforementioned glitter phob.

To be honest, I wasn't overly excited about the prospect of this bubble bar for the sheer fact that it supposedly shared its scent with the Gingerbread Man Sparkle Jar from the Christmas range. While I really enjoyed the fragrance of said sparkle jar, ginger is one of my least favourite aromas to smear all over my body, and so the idea of bathing it didn't exactly spark my interest.

When I received Love Token, I was actually taken back by how much stronger the smell is to that of the sparkle jar. While the Christmas product was fairly mild and mellowed out on the skin, this Valentine's Day release is much spicer and stronger.

The ginger is definitely the most prominent element of this smell - offering a dry, spicy and very strong ginger aroma. Combined with the clove bud and guaiacwood oil, the fragrance of this is very spicy with warm woody elements underneath. While this is a Valentine's Day release, this wouldn't go amiss as part of a Christmas release: it's definitely a very comforting smell.

Despite its size, this little golden token will offer you three rather lovely baths. Simply hold Love Token under the running tap and it will begin to produce wonderful golden yellow water, as well as cover the surface with an array of light, fluffy bubbles. As a disclaimer: if you wish to preserve some of the glitter on the surface for future baths, you may opt to cut this bubble bar into smaller pieces, and just use a single piece at a time.

While reusable bubble bars are never as moisturising as a regular bubble bar, I was impressed to find that the water felt very sultry and slightly 'thick' across my skin. Although I moisturised after exiting the bath, my skin felt really soft after I had towelled myself down, and it was definitely more nourishing than some of Lush's more recent variations.

Scent-wise, this reusable bubble bar made a strong impression in the water, and I was able to detect the ginger throughout my whole time in the whole tub. Having said that, I wasn't able to detect any of the aroma on my skin afterwards, which is where Gingerbread Man Sparkle Jar would have come in handy.

While very small and seemingly expensive for its size, Love Token produces the same number of baths as any other reusable bubble bar would. The scent is definitely different from most of Lush's more fruity, citrusy smells, so I did appreciate a change-up in the bath, and it certainly helped me to unwind after a long day at work. Having said that, the fragrance wasn't ever one that was going to blow me away to begin with, and the bath wasn't impressive enough for me to invest in another one.

Quantitative Ingredients: Sodium Carbonate, Cream of Tartar, Sodium Laureth, Sulfate Glycerine, Lauryl Betaine, Perfume, Ginger Oil, Pine Needle Absolute, Clove Bud Oil, Guaiacwood Oil, Gardenia Extract, Titanium Dioxide, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Tin Oxide, Silica, Benzyl Alcohol, *Benzyl Benzoate, Cinnamal, *Citral, *Eugenol, *Limonene, *Linalool, Colour 19140:1, Colour 77491, Colour 19140, Colour 15510.

Six Reusable Bubble Bar

While there's a part of myself that revels in the sexual innuendos that Lush play around with during their Valentine's (and sometimes regular) product names, there's also a spiritual side of my personality that simply enjoys the celebration of all love, and wishes that Lush did more seasonal products that focussed on this all encompassing love as well.

While by itself, Six Reusable Bubble Bar doesn't initially grab you as a particularly obvious innuendo, you only need to grab a second and form the number 69 to realise where the company were going with this one. I happen to think that this bubble bar is incredible adorable, and its shape serves many uses, as I will explain in more detail below.

Sporting either a pink and yellow or blue and yellow, stripy design, this Valentines' Day special shares its scent with the popular Yog Nog family. After the slightly disappointing Yog Nog Yule Log from the recent Christmas range, this brand new rendition offers a lot more in the way of colour and fragrance; and is definitely a step up from the previous rendition, in my eyes.

For those unfamiliar with this Lush smell, Yog Nog is perhaps the most 'foody' aroma that the company do. My nose detects a rich and very succulent aroma; one of sweet, decadent butterscotch ice cream with ripples of nutty caramel threaded throughout; a hot, malted glass of milk infused with vanilla pods; a sprinkling of brown sugar and a generous helping of salted caramel.

Some of my readers, with a good eye for detail night notice that my above description is near on identical to that that the forgotten Yog Log Shower Smoothie from two Christmases ago. And the reason why is because I found Six Bubble Bar to be far closer to the scent of the shower smoothie than I did the bath bomb or the recent body lotion. There is something a little drier and nuttier about the fragrance of this Valentine's Day release than some of the more recent renditions.

What I will say is that the design and smell doesn't necessarily agree with your senses to begin with. It took me a short while to adjust to the cake-like smell coupled with the bright red and yellow stripes. However, once I used this beautiful release in the bath for the first time, I was head over heals in love.

Six is a reusable bubble bar, which means that the idea is you can use it across multiple baths. Traditionally, you're supposed to hold the product under the running water until you've used as much as you want, and then leave it somewhere to dry. The shape of this bubble bar means you can hold the top part of the six, if like me you don't wish to burn your fingers under the hot water, and then place it in a cool dark place, preferably in a container to avoid any mess from occurring. You can also place the bar in a sieve and hold that underneath the water, if you'd rather not risk an injury.

However, as I have found it difficult in recent months to do either of these things, I have taken to breaking and crumbling the bar as I would a regular bubble bar. This still heeded a good number of uses (I was able to get three wonderful baths from Six, and that was with me being overly generous with how much of the bar I used). Yet, this also meant that it was easier to store the dry pieces in between uses.

As with many of the reusable bubble bars that I have tried from Lush, this one produced a generous amount of light, fluffy bubbles - more so when I swished my hands around the water. The water turned a light shade of peach when I used the red and yellow design, which wasn't as vibrant as a bath bomb would have been, but was pleasant nonetheless.

While the water wasn't as moisturising as a regular bubble bar would have been, my skin was left soft and smooth afterwards, and I was rather impressed with the staying power of the fragrance overall. I could detect the wonderful aroma throughout my whole experience, and a gentle touch of butterscotch lingered on my skin afterwards - which was intensified when I slathered myself with the complimenting body lotion afterwards.

To claim that this fragrance will leave you salivating, is very much an understatement. It will leave you raiding the biscuit drawer and demolishing a packet of Hob Nobs before you even realise what you're doing. It's an enabler of the senses, and if you're one for foody smells, you'll want this bubble bar accompanying you into the bath every night. A great success that pairs perfectly with the bath bomb: if only that would make another appearance soon.

Quantitative Ingredients: Sodium Carbonate, Cream of Tartar, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Glycerine, Lauryl Betaine, Perfume, Clove Bud Oil, Ylang Ylang Oil, Benzyl Alcohol, *Eugenol, May contain: Colour 45410, Colour 47005, Colour 59040, Colour 42090, Colour 42090:2.

Snowflake Bubble Spinner

It's of little surprise that Snow Flake Bubble Spinner was the last of this year's Christmas bath products I had to review. While delicately pretty in the same way that an actual snow flake could be described as, I already suspected that the bath it was going to heed wouldn't be particularly interesting, and this was before I'd even gotten it home from the shop. Unless snow flakes had been hiding their coloured centres from me my entire life, I wasn't expecting much in the way of vibrancy with this one.

As predicted, the water that this limited edition created left very little to the imagination. There was a very subtle grey tinge to its transparency, but nothing more in the way of colour. Even the gentle sparkle that features on the surface of the bubble spinner wasn't replicated in the water. This is definitely aimed at those who don't particularly enjoy colourful baths, or perhaps consumers whose skin can become a little irritated with two many ingredients in a product.

Containing patchouli, orange oil and orange flower absolute, Snowflake is definitely the least Christmassy fragrance from the range. Definitely more wintery to my nose, this lovely aroma holds the sweet, spicy element of the former ingredient, whilst also celebrating its earthy properties. Entangled around this is then gentle, warming sweetness of the orange flower absolute, and a delicate fruity note of orange to finish.

While subtle scents can be beautiful, and this one certainly was before it had been used under the tap, I found that a good part of the fragrance was lost once it was put to use. Although I was still privy to snapshots of the fragrance throughout my whole bath, my nose was engulfed with every other product I was using at the time, and therefore Snowflake didn't really have much of an impact on me overall.

As with all of Lush's reusable bubble bars, this one needs to be held under the running tap to create both the colour and an array of bubbles. Once you feel you have enough of the product in the water, you can pat the bubble bar down and leave it somewhere to use again and again. As Snowflake also happens to be a bubble spinner, this limited edition will quite literally spin under the running tap and send an abundance of bubbles across the surface of the water.

What I will say about Snowflake is that it is fairly generous with the amount of bubbles that it produces in the water. Although I had to stimulate more by swishing my hand around the tub, the bubbles that were produced floated on the surface for a lot longer than most bubble bars usually do.

In addition, this seasonal beauty did leave my skin feeling really smooth and soft afterwards. Although not as moisturising as most of Lush's regular bubble bars, I know not to expect that of a reusable bubble bar, and this one definitely turned out more conditioning than I was expecting. My hands especially had a slightly gleam to them that I don't usually get with many products, and I found that the blisters from when I lift weights appeared much calmer and subdued.

As the scent of Snowflake wasn't all that strong in the bath tub, there wasn't much of a smell on my skin afterwards. However, I was able to detect an earthy note of patchouli for a good forty minutes between towelling myself off and going to sleep. In hindsight, I honestly believe that the patchouli was what helped me to have a great night sleep that night.

Ultimately, this makes for an interesting stocking filler, and fans of patchouli will no doubt want to purchase one of these to enjoy their favourite smell in a new format. However, there is nothing that Snowflake offers that I cannot find done more successfully in another product, and for this reason I wouldn't be tempted to buy another one.
