Lily Savon Liquid Perfume

I've been wanting to get my hands on this perfume for quite a while, mostly because it's a rare beauty and I like the challenge for acquiring hard-to-find products. Furthermore, I'm a fan of the Ghost-scented range, which shares the same fragrance as this.

Lily Savon was last released back in 2007, one of six limited edition perfumes to come out in December as part of Lush's forum special release. Harvested in a gorgeous half-moon bottle, this perfume looks like liquid gold, so I was hoping it's scent replicated this.

Containing jasmine absolute, ylang ylang and neroli oil, this perfume is a strong, rather potent floral smelling fragrance. In fact, as the name suggests, the smell replicates the fresh aroma of Lilies wonderfully. The jasmine absolute is the key scent here, often being used in a large range of different cosmetics to treat sensitive skin, combat depression and help to suppress other stress-related conditions. Although it cannot work on the skin in the same way as a body lotion or soap can, when in perfume form, it does make the wearer feel rather relaxed and contented. The Neroli oil compliments the work of the jasmine and helps the wearer to stay calm.

I would warn anyone who manages to get their hands on the bottle, to be wary of how much you apply. This perfume has a high level of longevity on the skin as well as in the air, and I've still been able to smell this product on me 2-3 days after I've spritzed myself up with it. Not only this, but if you spray too much on yourself at once, the smell permeates absolutely everything in the near vicinity, and it can be a little unbearable when this happens.

First and foremost, this perfume smells exactly like what you'd expect if you take a bunch of fresh lillies and press them for a matter of weeks. It's a fresh but equally musky floral scent that's surprisingly strong after all of these years. There is a slight sweetness here, something that sits underneath the powerful lily smell, and helps to lift the fragrance up a little so it's not as heavy as it could be.

To me, it's a very mature smelling scent, something that would have been a fashionable perfume to wear in the 60's and one I can imagine your grandma still wearing today. For this reason, I would say that if you like old-fashioned floral fragrances, you'll probably love this. If you're looking for something a little more youthful, this might be something you wish to avoid.

Overall, Lily Savon is a wonderful smelling scent, but perhaps one you'd have to select to wear at appropriate times; this wouldn't be suited to wear during the warmer months for example, so you may find yourself a little constricted if you wish to use this as a regular fragrance.

It's a perfume that would suit particular tastes so you may wish to sample it before you invest in a large bottle. It's not something I'd want to buy again, especially given the more playful floral fragrances you find on the Lush site. However, that's not to say it isn't an exquisite and rather sexy perfume for those with a nose for classic smelling perfumes.

    1. It's one of those scents I have a love/hate relationship with. I recognise that it's a very pure smell and definitely very beautiful in how unique it is in terms of floral scents. And something about the way it sits on my skin is rather pleasant. Yet, my own tastebuds don't react well to the pungent lily smell and in most formats it really doesn't do anything for me at all.
