Refresher Shower Jelly

They say that simple pleasures are often reserved for simple people. While I'm not for a second demeaning my own intelligence, I'll be honest and say that I often take pleasure in the fragrances that aren't necessarily the most complex or the most interesting. Despite being fascinated and rather allured by Lush's multi-layered scents, there's something equally as beautiful about the more basic ones as well.

Refresher Shower Jelly is one of those products that is either going to get you salivating immediately, or have you shrugging your shoulders and turning your nose up at the prospect. It's for those citrus fans who may appreciate the fruiter notes present in various Lush smells, but those who sometimes just want something simple and refreshing to enjoy in the shower.

Presented in a vivid, pearly-yellow colour, this Oxford Street exclusive is everything I could have asked for, and more. Containing both lemon oil and lemon myrtle oil, this shower jelly is a fresh, bright and very sexy citrus fragrance - one that smells very much like Speedboat FUN and You've Been Mangoed Bath Melt

While rosewood oil is another key ingredient, this one didn't really make its presence known for me during use - instead sitting back and allowing the lemon to dominate and make this product an incredibly zesty experience. With what I think is a play on words, Refresher not only offers an uplifting and very 'refreshing' experience, but one that plays homage to the chewy sweet of the same name; a factor that takes me back to my childhood days.
In the tub, this shower jelly is strong in scent - not so much that it's overpowering but one that offers immediate promise to those about to use it for the first time. While there have been lots of products with a similar scent to this over the last couple of years, nothing has been formulated and created as a good-quality shower companion, so this jelly is much appreciated and very much needed.

There are several ways that you can use the shower jelly. You can either rub the whole block or a broken-off piece directly onto your skin, or rub the product into a sponge or shower-puff and stimulate enough foam to use across your body. As a personal preference, I like to cut the whole tub of jelly into grape-sized cubes and use a single piece to see me through a couple of showers.
What really impressed me about Refresher was that it lathered up without hardly any stimulation at all, and I was amazed at how thick and creamy the lather turned out to be. While most of Lush's jellies work well, this one in particular was incredibly generous with its foam and I found that I didn't need to keep the piece under the water for very long.

This latter point meant that my 1cm cube saw me through 3-4 showers before it had shrunk too much to use. Knowing this, I can imagine my 240g tub lasting me far longer than a bottle go shower gel in the same weight. For this reason, it's exception value for money.

In the shower, this shower jelly was really easy to lather up and I loved how strong the scent was when it came into contact with the warm water. After massaging it across my body, I was amazed at how wonderfully smooth it left me feeling and I loved how warming the scent was on my senses - this is definitely one for when you're feeling a little under the weather.
To conclude, I loved how soft and radiant my skin felt after using this and it's one that I'll definitely stock up on next time I'm lucky enough to visit the store. The only thing that could make this product even better would be if it was a shower gel - something that I can't really hold against it in all fairness. A firm favourite for me and a must have for all citrus fans worldwide.

  1. I wish I'd purchased this during my visit to Oxford Street! While I was there I couldn't really detect a scent so I didn't bother. I've seen so many good reviews on it since though and I wish i'd bought now. Thank goodness it's in the kitchen this week!

    1. Yep! While I lemon smells, I remember smelling it and thinking it smelt lovely but perhaps slightly too 'basic'. However, as I said in my review, the simplicity of it is now what I love!

  4. So glad you reviewed this one! I asked my daughter to pick this up as well and I LOVE it! Especially for summer and it is very hot here in the U.S. Refreshing and moisturizing. I really appreciate your tip about cutting the block up into smaller pieces.

  5. Am I right in thinking this isn't an Oxford Street exclusive any more?

    1. Nope, it isn't! I picked it up in my local store in Preston, UK, waaay last year.
