Princess Cottongrass Body Spray

For those lucky enough (and brave enough) to visit Lush Oxford Street on its opening day, you'll know what I mean when I say that there was an air of compulsive panic buying that seemed to accompany a lot of the customers there that day. While I was safe in the knowledge that most of the products on the shelves would be there for weeks/months to come, there was still a part of me that couldn't help but fill my basket in the fear that the products I missed would be the ones that would sell out and never make a reappearance. 

As I was so consumed with the shower gels and bath bombs, I chose to overlook some of the more expensive products - the perfumes and the candles being the main items I opted out of buying for fear of hitting a four-figure total at the checkouts. As it happened, I convinced myself that a second trip was needed only a matter of days later, where I managed to pick up most of the items I had either forgotten or chosen to forego the first time around.

Princess Cottongrass Body Spray was one such feature that I chose to ignore on my initial visit - partly because I already have enough perfumes to sink a small ship, but also because it seemed like one of the most expensive investments in the shop - coming in at £45 for a 100ml bottle. 

Originally, I was rather shocked at the price tag and couldn't comprehend why such a small bottle could possibly be that much. However, after much consideration, I realised that cost was relatively good compared with the liquid perfume of the same name. As I stated in my review of Furze, while some companies would use the transformation from fragrance to body spray as an opportunity to water down the perfume and increase their profit margin, Lush have kept all of the goodness in their sprays, just made them slightly more refreshing and uplifting on the skin. 

Princess Cottongrass Body Spray is a feminine fragrance - a light yet complex aroma that I initially assumed wouldn't impress me all that much. Made from a combination of pine and neroli oil, nettle and violet leaf absolute, it's a fragrance that lends itself well to fans of all four ingredients as you can detect them all at various stages of wear. 

In the bottle, I noticed the nettle leaf slightly more than the other notes, which helps to give this scent a very herbal, grassy aroma. The inclusion of neroli oil compliments this smell and adds a very aromatic green layer underneath. This latter ingredient also offers wearers a fresh floral scent which, when mixed with the violet, creates a complex, multi-layered smell.

Despite showcasing a handful of strong, domineering smells, this body spray is not as heavy as you would expect. Instead you get a wonderful light, crisp scent that lingers on your skin for a very long time. And much like the liquid perfume,  as the warmth of your skin stimulates the different layers, you'll experience wonderful little floral bursts throughout the day.

While it's very different from Death & Decay and Lily Savon, I can see fans of both of these enjoying Princess Cottongrass very much. It has that wonderfully comforting yet equally refreshing element about it that makes it perfect for the warmer months of the year.  

Although I wouldn't claim that it was one of my all-time favourite perfumes, it's definitely one that I enjoy wearing and one that improves my mood no matter where I am or what I am doing. While the price tag might seem a lot to invest in, this is definitely great value for money and far outweighs the price of a 30ml bottle of the perfume.
