Uptown Funk Body Spray

As of late, both of my flatmates have started to comment on how overpriced they think that Lush has become - even going as far as to purchase bath bombs from other websites online as a stand against the company. Where they once had baskets full of the popular black and white tubs in their rooms, my friends now claim that the brand has become unaffordable to average salary earners and have chosen to stop shopping there altogether. While I have always defended my favourite company, I had to somewhat bite my tongue when it came to this particular product.

Uptown Funk Body Spray is a fresh, modern scent that represents the youth and culture of today's society. Named after the recent number one hit by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, this brand new addition to Lush's fragrance range is one seriously sexy offering. In fact, if it wasn't for the rather expensive price tag, I would have seriously considered giving it the full six out six.

Now I recognise that the price per 100 grams is fairly competitive with most of Lush's other perfumes. In fact, I'd say that it was even slightly cheaper than most of the fragrances in the Volume 3 collection. However, when you consider the fact that this is a body spray and is considerably more expensive than any other spray currently available on the market, it puts the price of things in perspective a little.

Having said this, I really don't wish to put anyone off buying this as it is an incredible fragrance - one that blew my socks off from the very first spritz. Containing a very generous dosage of neroli, bergamot and lemon oil, this body spray gives off a strong, complex and very unique aroma - one that has so much character to it that it's guaranteed to become a signature fragrance for many who try this.
Neroli is the main note here - offering a light sweet-floral fragrance with an element of citrus to it as well. It has a refreshing, honeyed floral aroma to it that is unlike anything else, and blends perfectly with the other ingredients to create a well-rounded and very potent-smelling perfume.

Underneath this is a thread of bergamot and lemon oil that compliments the neroli wonderfully and gives Uptown Funk a very refreshing, uplifting element to it. It's these latter ingredients that help the perfume to mature and expand on the skin - giving off bursts of happiness throughout the day that just keeps on giving.

The ylang ylang also adds a heady and very exotic floral element to the perfume, which volumises the aroma and creates something pretty spectacular. It has a sort of dried flowery smell with a sprinkle of lemon, a dash of wood and a smidgen of maple syrup - a rich, silky and rather sultry fragrance that is light enough to be worn in warmer weather, but comforting enough to survive in colder conditions as well.

In the bottle, the ingredients are very strong and heavy, and to begin with I was a little unsure as to whether or not I'd actually enjoy the scent. However, once I had sprayed it on my skin, the different layers were more pronounced and I found that it made me feel incredible for the entire day.

On the skin, the different notes mature over time and leave a sweet, honeyed floral aroma that stays with you for hours. Uptown Funk has an impressive longevity - I found that I could still detect it on my skin after an eight hour day at work. Furthermore, I also received many compliments from members of the general public which only served to deepen my love for this scent.
While it is presented in body spray format, I would use this sparingly as a little goes a long way. In fact, I found it more appropriate to dab this onto my wrists and neck as opposed to spraying it directly onto the skin. If you do chose to spritz, the design of the bottle means that you can control how little is released with each spray so this 100ml bottle should last longer than your average bottle of perfume.

Uptown Funk is definitely one of Lush's most interesting and loveable perfumes - a deliciously sexy fragrance that'll appeal to people of all ages and genders. Despite my initial hesitance to invest in this spray, it has now become one of my staple products to use before a night out and I cannot imagine my life without it.

  3. Over here in New Zealand Lush is known as an expensive store.Everthing is way dearer. I was looking at your UK site and using the currency converter to look yesterday. It was annoying, to say the least. And Australia Lush, which is very close to us is around 20%-30% cheaper too. We can't buy from Australia tho. I choose to buy the majority of our skincare at Lush tho, as I love their ethics, the products are amazing and we all have semi- sensitive skin. Dream Cream is a staple in our house. We are on a low income, so buy at birthdays etc.

  4. Jen, I just bought Uptown funk off the exclusives page on Lush for £30 for a 200 ml bottle. I couldn't justify the price before, but now its £20 for 100 ml and £30 for 200 ml-I know the other bottle was £45 for 250ml but 200 ml will last and £30 is so much better.

  5. I was so surprised to see this on the exclusives page, and the prices had come down!!!!! I couldn't justify it before, but seeing it for £20 for 100 ml and £30 for 200 ml--I went for the 200 ml bottle--I know the £45 was 250 ml, but--I'm quite happy with this. I love it! You described itperfectly--The marrying of scents, and the way it layers on your skin. The longevity is amazing. It is easily as strong as any perfume, I smelled it on my clothes the next day, and the compliments!--strangers and friends alike--My new favorite!
