Ghost Shower Jelly

As I've expressed many a time on this blog, as every review on here has been written by yours truly, there will be some comments that cause a bit of a back lash from those who disagree with what I have to say. In all fairness, I'm surprised I didn't get as much stick for my rather negative review of the popular Tramp Shower Gel. However, there are certain scents that do absolutely nothing for me, and Ghost is one of them. 

Ghost Shower Jelly was always going to have to prove itself a lot to me, and unfairly on my part, I pretty much set it up to fail before I'd even given it a chance. Much like the shower gel, this jelly is white in colour; matching it's name and winning the award for most boring-looking shower product ever. 

The scent of this jelly is a combination of lilies, jasmine, ylang ylang and neroli – the same fragrance as you'd find in Lush's discontinued Lily Savon Soap. Much like the shower gel version, this product features dove orchid infusion and carrageenan extract - a beautiful combination that’s mild and gentle on the skin whilst being moisturising, calming and cleansing at the same time. 

There are several ways that you can use any of Lush's shower jellies, and I find that everyone has their own preference, which is completely understandable. Firstly, you can break a small piece of (or select a piece that's been segmented prior to your shower) and rub the block directly onto your skin. The amount of lather this creates differentiates vastly depending on the type of jelly, how old the product is and the size of the piece you're using. While some users find this way works for them, I find that this is fairly ineffective as it does not create much of a lather and the jelly becomes too wet, making it slippery and difficult to hold on to. 

Secondly, you can use a shower sponge, puff or exfoliating glove to create a lather before rubbing it all over your body. For me, I found this method far more successful as it helped to break down the jelly properly and create a nice foamy effect to wash your body with. Finally, you can break off slabs of the jelly and use them as you would a bubble bar, placing them underneath a running tap to stimulate bubbles. I tend to use mine for this as well at times, as I can get 4-5 amazing baths out of one 100g tub, which I consider to be great value for money.

In this case, I wasn't very keen on bathing in the product, so chose to use it as an alternative to shower gel. This is one of Lush's softer shower jellies, so can be broken up into small chunks with ease. Unfortunately, the consistency of this also makes it one of the most fiddliest products to use in the shower, and I found that I lost as much down the plughole as I managed to use on my body.

On the positive side, this jelly is very easy to lather up and produces a soft, fragrant foam that works well at cleaning and softening your skin - I did notice that my body felt smooth almost as soon as I'd rinsed the lather away. 

Furthermore, the smell of the jelly, which is mostly dominated by the orchids, lingers on your skin and around the bathroom for a very long time after use. My flatmate commented on the smell, and asked about what I had been using in the shower some 8 hours after I had left the bathroom, which is impressive. Unfortunately, as someone who is not keen on this scent, having it follow me around for the whole day was something of a negative experience. 

Overall, from an objective standpoint, this shower jelly is an effective and well-produced item, and if you're a fan of this scent, you'll no doubt love Ghost. However, as someone who is not particularly enamoured with lil-scented cosmetics, it's not a product I would want to use again.
