Madame President Bath Bomb

Ugh! The urge to give this bath bomb a full rating of six bottles led me down a torturous road of self doubt for the hour or so it took me to write this review. While my heart told me to commit to the high standard that I give only the most perfect of products, my head convinced me that this little beauty was still not up to the same standards as the likes of Lord Of Misrule, Cheer Up Buttercup of The Enchanter. Having said that, it is close enough that five and a half bottles seems like a fairer rating.

With a name like Madame President, this bath bomb had a lot to live up to - and it did. Reminding me slightly of the original Shoot For The Stars Bath Bomb, this limited edition is half pink, half blue and full of golden lustre to make you feel like royalty in the bath tub.

Not only is the scent super strong - lingering on your skin, in the bathroom and around the whole house for hours after using it, but the fragrance itself is so unique and beautiful that Lush would silly if they limited this concoction to one single product. This would definitely suit being made into a perfume format, and I hope this becomes a reality at some point in the near future.

Containing both grapefruit and petitgrain oils, this bath bomb is incredibly heady: perhaps one of the strongest bath bombs to be released from Lush in a long while. Like Lovestruck Bubble Bar, from last year's Valentine's Day range, this is definitely an acquired taste.

If you're expecting Madame President to be fruity, you'd be sorely mistaken. Instead, the two notes produce a bitter and very overpowering scent. While the petitgrain is the strongest component here, the grapefruit still has a big impact on the overall aroma.

To me, I can detect a layer of sourness from the grapefruit, which is slightly citrusy but not particularly fruity. Alongside this, the petitgrain oil produces a slight green, woody aroma which dominates the overall smell for the most part. The strength of this fragrance reminds me a little of the cloudy, overbearing scent you get when spraying a particularly intoxicating aftershave - but in a good way.

In the water, this bath bomb produces a wonderful show and takes a good few minutes to dissolve. It's a fairly fast fizzer but you do get to enjoy a colourful show of colours as they swirl across the surface of the water. Once the ballistic has fully dissolved, you'll left with a small piece of condensed bath bomb that is filled with golden lustre.

Along with the beautiful deep purple water that you are left with, the golden lustre also ebbs and pulsates under the surface, which creates a stunning show to enjoy while you're bathing. You don't have to worry about being covered in glitter though, as I found that it washed away with ease afterwards and there didn't appear to be any left on my body.

What I loved about Madame President was that the smell was intoxicating in the water: it engulfed me throughout the whole experience and left me feeling really calm and relaxed. The water itself was also super softening on my skin and I didn't need to moisturise afterwards. This was a good thing because the fragrance stayed with me for hours afterwards, and I woke up the next morning with the scent still lingering on my pillows and bedsheets.

This is easily one of Lush's best inventions in a long time, and one that would suit becoming a permanent fixture in stores. I think the smell of this makes it so unique and a really big selling point for those who want a bath bomb with some character and colour, and one that's going to leave a lasting impression. I really wish I had picked up a few more of these before they disappeared.
