Brazilliant Solid Shampoo Bar

After making my way through each of the five new solid vegan shampoos from Lush, I cannot believe how many of them have worked wonders for my hair. While it was one of the first ones to catch my eye when Lush originally announced their release, I chose to leave this one to last, and what a great end to my journey it proved to be.

Brazilliant Solid Shampoo is a vibrant, bright orange bar, packed full of essential oils that not only give this product a beautiful aroma, but also helped to make this one of the most moisturising shampoos to date. Lush describe this shampoo as being 'reminiscient of the Brazilian sun', and while I've not had the pleasure of visiting Brazil, it's definitely like a little piece of sunshine.

This shampoo is jam-packed with fresh organic oranges - so much so that it smells very much like a freshly-squeezed glass of juice. I only had to give this a sniff to instantly fall in love with how fresh and naturally citrusy it is. Yet there is something a little extra that gives Brazilliant an added twist.

The inclusion of ylang ylang oil not only supports the natural sweetness of the fruit, but gives this product a slightly sugary element. Alongside the sweet orange oil, these three ingredients give the shampoo bar an almost sherbet aroma. Although not identical, the fragrance of this item reminded me of the orange Starburst sweet. While it's not the strongest smelling bar, the sweet, fruity fragrance shines through and I would love for Lush to bring out a lotion with the same smell.

What I noticed about this shampoo bar is that it contains andiroba oil - something I hadn't seen in any of Lush's products beforehand. After a little research, I found that this oil is extracted from the seeds or nuts of the Amazonian tree, Carapa guianensis. The oil is know to be especially moisturising, which is due to it being naturally rich in omega-3 fatty acids. For this reason, it works wonders on frizzy, curly and thicker hair - locking in the moisture so that it doesn't dry your locks out, but without making it greasy.

This solid shampoo lathered up very easily and I could feel it getting to work immediately. My hair felt soft and easy to manage, and after I had applied my conditioner and washed this off, my hair felt light and airy to touch. While it was drying, I noticed that my hair had a wonderful shine to it - something it hadn't possessed before I had washed it, and something that continued to show the whole time I was using this shampoo.

My locks felt really moisturised and healthy, whilst retaining a light, well-conditioned consistency overall. When used daily, Brazilliant didn't dry my hair out or cause my dyed hair to fade, which I appreciated. After using it for a few weeks, I found that this gentle shine stayed with me, and didn't make my hair look greasy at all. In fact, it worked wonders at taming my locks without making it look oily, and I found that I didn't have to straighten my hair when I wanted to wear it down.

Unfortunately, the wonderful scent of this shampoo didn't stay on my hair at all, but the outcome was enough to cement this as a favourite product from Lush. I will definitely be using this again, and alongside Montalbano and Copperhead, this has now become a staple hair care product in my house.

  1. Could you tell us which lush solid shampoos, out of the ones you've personally tried, you think are appropriate for
    1) very oily hair, that gets a bit of acne that's supposedly caused by harsh liquid shampoos
    2) mildly oily roots

Trying to figure out which would be the best one for my brother (1), so I can convert him to solid products without packaging. I'm planning on giving it to him for christmas.
Also trying to figure out which would be the best for myself (2). Jumping Juniper leaves me with perfect texture and movement, but the roots get oily a bit sooner than I'd like and don't feel as fresh as I'd like.

    1. Hi there - I think that's a fantastic idea to try and convert your brother - I'm trying to do the same to my two flatmates. Even though my hair look and feels great, and they're always complimenting me, neither of them will take that plunge - it's so frustrating!

As I'm not prone to oily hair, I'll have to step back here and little and look at the ingredients of the solid shampoos.

For mildly oily roots, I would recommend Honey I Washed My Hair. While I haven't tried it myself because of the inclusion of honey, my sister has been using it herself and it's done wonders to her hair. She has mildly oily hair and this has kept her soft and glossy while keeping it oil free.

For every oily hair, Brazilliant is a great one - this calms the hair and is very gentle on the scalp - leaving your hair really soft and gentle, with a shine that doesn't look greasy.
