Scrumptious Shower Smoothie

It's not very often that I don't recognise a product that appears on the Lush Kitchen menu. In fact, since the introduction of the Kitchen some three years ago, there have only ever been two items that have stumped me into having to carry out a little research. The first was Aqua Mirabilis Underwater Body Butter, of which I didn't even realise there were two variations of the same product, and the second was this recent release.

Scrumptious Shower Smoothie reads exactly as it means to go on. While the company are known for using witty puns to name their products, and using tongue-in-cheek taglines to entice their customers, this one is as literal as you can get. At first glance, it could even be accused of being a little presumptuous, and has a lot to live up to given the bold statement that is its name. Thankfully, Lush are fully aware of how to make something both smell and behave scrumptiously, and I cannot stress how amazing this product is.

First released over seventeen years ago, this shower smoothie has been described as being both like a 'blueberry parfait' and a fruit salad. Boasting a myriad of different fruity ingredients, it is no wonder that the outcome is a product that completely blew my mind upon first sniff, and one that I continue to use on an almost daily basis.

With a base made from a blueberry infusion, and a combination of fresh orange juice, mashed bananas, and lemon and lime oil making up the other key components, this shower smoothie smells like the world's greatest desert. From the tub I could immediately smell both the bananas and the blueberries - a pairing that produces a rich, creamy fruity smell, and reminds me a little of homemade ice cream. It's by no means an overly powerful smell, but it's strong enough that you'll be hard-pressed not to want to stick a spoon in the tub and shove a mountain of the smoothie into your mouth. Disclaimer: I should probably add that curiosity got the better of me and I did attempt to eat some, which only heeded disappointing results.

Both the lime and the lemon oils are also present in the aroma of this smoothie. However, there isn't any citrus notes to observe here; it's strictly a fruity smell, and one that is interestingly sweet without being what I would describe as uplifting or zesty in any way. Strangely, you almost get a note of raspberry bubblegum when you smell this in the pot - a factor that just made me fall in love with this product even more.

For those unsure what a shower smoothie is, Scrumptious is like a soap that has been pulverised into a liquid, and had extra oils and butters added to make it more moisturising for the skin. You use it in the same way you would a shower gel - lathering it across your body and then washing it away under running water.

Impressively, I found that this particular smoothie foamed up a lot better than most of the other ones I have tried from Lush. Usually, I find that they coat the skin but don't work in the same way that both a soap or a shower gel would be expected to do. However, Scrumptious Shower Smoothie lathers up a treat and you need very little to clean your whole body with. For this reason, I would say that this is one of the better valued variations, and lasts a lot longer than most of its siblings. Judging by how much I have used so far, I would say that you could easily get a good 20+ full body washes out, and even more you're only using it on specific areas.

As if the fragrance wasn't enough to make me fall in love with this product to begin with, I was amazed to find that I could smell it on my skin for a good couple of hours after I had towelled myself down. Moreover, I found that if I used this before I went to bed, the smell of fresh blueberries and banana would still be on my pillow the next morning, which was a welcoming reward first thing in the morning.

I should point out that I would refrain from using this on areas that have recently been shaved, or use this as an alternative to shaving foam, as I found that it irritated my pores and caused them to either sting a little, or come out in a rash for a short white after bathing. However, this rule applies to most of Lush's soap-based products, so I wouldn't expect anything different with this one.

Overall, this is by far my favourite shower smoothie for Lush, and its name really does describe how this product smells and works in the shower. While my skin didn't feel as moisturised as a shower gel would make it, it was definitely a step up from a normal piece of soap, and I feel a smoothness once I had towelled myself down.

Ultimately, I really hope that the Lush Kitchen choose to bring this back in the near future because I'm getting dangerously close to finishing my first tub, and the idea of not having this as a permanent fixture in my bathroom, is a little disheartening.

Yog Log Shower Smoothie

When Lush opted to replace their potted shower smoothies with a solid, package-free alternative, it was a step in the right direction - not just because of the environmental impact that it would have, but also because of the gateway that opened up for the company to bring out a greater range of variations for consumers to enjoy.

Yog Log is one of two brand new roulades to make an appearance this season, and one of nearly ten releases in this format so far. It seems that Lush are onto a winning formula, as while these roulades seem to grace the shelves quietly and are barely the topic of conversation across social media, there must be quite a demand for them because they keep being brought back time and time again.

Lush state that this product shares its scent with the Yog Nog family, which includes a bath bomb, soap, perfume and FUN bar. A fairly recent invention when you consider the length of time that the company have been producing products, this family of items have each made quite an impression on the community. It's a regular occurrence to see fans desperately searching for a spare perfume on both Instagram and Facebook, and the speed in which the bath bomb and the soap sold out in the Kitchen this month, demonstrates that there is quite a cult following behind the family.

While I would say that fans of all of the above would no doubt love and appreciate this seasonal smoothie, I will say that I don't think the scent mirrors that of any of the products mentioned above. There are definitely similarities here, that much is true, but this solid rendition sports many differences, which was a little disappointing at first.

Yog Log is described as smelling of 'comforting caramel' and for this part I agree. There is definitely something reminiscent of freshly made chunks of sticky caramel; of sweet, decadent butterscotch ice cream with ripples of nutty caramel threaded throughout; a hot, malted glass of milk infused with vanilla pods, a sprinkling of brown sugar and a generous helping of salted caramel.

To claim that this fragrance will leave you salivating, is very much an understatement. It will leave you raiding the biscuit drawer and demolishing a packet of Hob Nobs before you even realise what you're doing. It's an enabler of the senses, and if you're one for foody smells, this is right up there as being one of Lush's best achievements.

What I would say is that it is a smell all by itself. Whereas the other products in this scent family have a very sweet, buttery aroma, Yog Log is much more grounded and far nuttier than its siblings. It takes on more of a fudge-like smell, as opposed to the bath bomb and soap that are far more sickly-sweet and syrup-like.

The inclusion of sesame seeds has definitely had an impact on the overall aroma. Although I wouldn't say that you can smell the seeds, there is definitely something about the smoothie that reflects the fact that they've been put in there to begin with.

To use, you can choose one of many different methods, depending on how you feel most comfortable. One way is to wet the piece and then massage the roulade straight across your body. This is the easiest way of ensuring you don't drop the product during use, and it's easy enough to pat down afterwards to retain its size and shape. With this method, I found that the smoothie wasn't very generous when it came to leaving lather on your skin, and I had to rigorously massage it in circular motions to ensure that the whole area was coated before rinsing away.

As Lush have explained, the way it's intended to be used is to break off a small piece (roughly the size of a large grape), and then massage it in between your hands first. Squishing it and manipulating the piece in this way will allow the oils and butters to be released easier, which then means that it's more effective at cleaning and moisturising your body. This way might mean that more of the product is used each time, but it is definitely easier to stimulate a lather across your skin.

Despite the above comment, Yog Log doesn't produce much of a lather either way, and instead you will find that you'll get a thin, oily residue that coats the skin. This is rinsed off and will leave your skin feeling really soft and smooth. While it didn't leave my skin overly nourished, it was definitely more effective than a large majority of soaps.

What I found even more wonderful is that the fragrance was robust enough to stay on my skin for a short while after my shower. This means that, when I use this before bed, I can smell traces of caramel on my pillow and duvet while asleep, and the next day.

Overall, I will say that I definitely prefer the other variations of Yog Nog to this one. While I'd say that the bath bomb is probably the closest in smell to this smoothie, there is still quite a difference between the two, and I can imagine Yog Nog fanatics might even be a little disappointed at the noticeable difference between this and everything else.

However, this is still a lovely-smelling product, and I cannot imagine that anyone would be too disappointed if they discovered a generous chunk of it in their Christmas stockings. From the standpoint of a gym-buff, this is a great 'cheat meal' that you don't have to worry about overindulging in; as a lover of puddings and sweets, this is the enabler you don't want near you when you're trying to resist the cookie jar.

The Icing On The Cake Shower Smoothie Roulade

When it comes to the different scents that Lush offer, it is normally fairly easy to pinpoint the most popular and perhaps what you would call the slightly overused ones in their range - The Comforter, Karma, Celebrate, Calacas, Snow Fairy. However, there are times when the fragrance of a product doesn't reveal itself straight away, only to make you feel like a fool when you finally realise why you've recognised the smell all along. Such is the case with this product.

The Icing On The Cake Roulade is another one of Lush's new inventions - one that follows the trend of the company's recent move to offer a more solid-orientated shower collection. This shower smoothie doesn't immediately stand out as being exclusively 'Christmas', which is why I was slightly perplexed when it appeared alongside the likes of Golden Wonder and Buche De Noel. However, I only had to give it a few sniffs to realise why it had been featured in the seasonal range, and I couldn't have been more pleased that it was available to buy.

As the name suggests, you only have to read the ingredients list to feel as if you're reading a recipe for a cake, not something you'd use to clean your body with. With chestnut puree, soya cream, almond milk and various fruit peels, this really does sound like something you'd want to eat, and it isn't for lack of trying that I have to reveal the sad truth of its inedibility. Believe me.

While it doesn't read the same on paper, this seasonal beauty actually shares its scent with Ponche, which is perhaps my all-time favourite shower gel. Designed to smell like the famous Mexican punch drink, this roulade smells of sweet tangerines intertwined with a splash of buchu and a lick of lime to pad out the aroma. Imagine removing the bitterness of blackcurrants and mixing this with a perfectly ripe tangerine and you might begin to recognise how beautiful the
fragrance of this product is.

What sets this apart from the original shower gel is the fact that the 'foody' ingredients remove a little of the citrus smell and incorporate a creamy base note that gives this roulade a slightly sugary element to it. While it doesn't quite top the shower gel variation, this seasonal product is still an amazing offering - one that should be made a permanent member of Lush's range.
Unlike most of the roulades I have tried from Lush, this one was fairly crumbly and I found that I had to break it off into pieces because I wasn't able to use a whole slice under the running water. Having said that, once the roulade was in use, it produced a very thick and silky-smooth lather that was easy to massage across the skin.

What blew me away was just how strong the fragrance of Ponche came through once the water had come into contact with it. While it's fairly strong in the packet, the scent of the shower smoothie was elevated as soon as it hit the hot water. Even more impressive was the fact that the smell lingered on my skin for hours after I had exited the shower, and I only had to top up with my Ponche Liquid Perfume to relive the experience all over again.

As with most of the other solid smoothies I have tried, I did find this one slightly drying on my skin. While it left me feeling clean and smelling wonderful, I didn't feel the full benefits that I would have had, had it been a shower gel. This latter point is perhaps the only reason why I haven't given this product full marks, because aside from this, it's near on perfect.
I will definitely be buying this again before the season is out, and I only hope that Lush choose to extend its shelf life into next year so I can enjoy it for as long as possible. This is by far my favourite shower roulade so far, and this makes a lovely addition to one of my all-time favourite scent families.

Quantitative Ingredients: Glycerine  Rapeseed Oil; Coconut Oil (Brassica napus; Cocoa nucifera), Almond Milk, Fresh Orange Peel, Lime Peel and Lemon Peel Decoction (Citrus Aurantium dulcis; Citrus aurantifolia; Citrus limonum), Soya Cream, Chestnut Puree (Castanea sativa), Water (Aqua), Perfume, Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis), Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao), Davana Oil (Artemisia Pallens), Buchu Oil (Barosma Betulina), Petitgrain Oil (Citrus Aurantium amara), Titanium Dioxide, Sorbitol, Sodium Chloride, EDTA, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Sodium Hydroxide, Cinnamal, Coumarin, Eugenol, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Tin Oxide, Colour 17200, Colour 45410, Colour 14700.

Dreamwash Shower Smoothie

I have been meaning to review this product for a long time - it's one that I have been purchasing regularly to ensure that I always have a tub on the side of my bath. However, with all of the new and exciting products that have been consistently coming out of the Lush factory since I began writing this blog, it's one that seems to have slipped into the background behind the more glamorous offerings.

Ironic then that it takes the discontinuation of the product for me to realise that I have not given the smoothie its much deserved 'air time'. And despite the fact that it is no longer readily available for purchase in any of the Lush stores, I assume that it will be back in the kitchen in due time - at which point new fans will need a reference point to decide whether or not its worth a purchase.

Dreamwash Shower Smoothie is one of a small family of products to share their scent with the popular Dream Cream Body Lotion - a product that happens to be the company's best-selling product of all time. With more and more people developing allergies, suffering from sensitive skin or just simply looking for cosmetics that are as gentle on the skin as possible, this is one of Lush's answers to meet the demand.
The key ingredient featured here is calamine powder which is known for its calming properties. Traditionally used in medicinal ointments as an antiseptic, this natural powder is known for being gentle on the skin - balancing out the skin's natural PH levels, calming stressed or overworked complexions, alleviating spot breakouts and reducing overall redness.

Coupled with a healthy dosage of aloe vera gel to soothe and rehydrate the skin, this shower smoothie is perfect for those who perhaps suffer from certain ailments that may flare up with heavy, chemical-ladened products. This plant-based ingredient softens the skin and works wonders on heavily sunburned areas - offering a cooling sensation that remedies itching and stinging without clogging up the pores or burdening the skin with too many heavy fragrances.

With chamomile and tea tree oils to give the product antiseptic properties, not to mention offering a scent that relieves and relaxes the mind while its being applied, this is definitely a very unique shower smoothie. So what exactly does it smell like?

Initially, Dreamwash is dominated heavily by the calamine powder coupled with lavender, both of which offer a delicate but rather aromatic floral smell. This is coupled with bouts of aloe vera which gives the product a fresh, crisp and slightly 'leafy' aroma. Overall, the smell of this product is very calming - one you would expect from a product intent on keeping things as simple and delicate as possible.
Unlike all of the other shower smoothies I have tried from Lush, this one has a consistency that almost matches that of other Lush body conditioners such as Yummy Mummy and Ro's Argan. It's rather thick in the tub and lathers on almost as if you were applying a body lotion as opposed to a soap.

As with all of Lush's shower smoothies, I found the most effective way to use it was to scoop it out of the tub and rub it all over the area that I wanted to clean. And much like other smoothies, this one doesn't lather up - instead coating your skin with a creamy lather that gets to work at cleaning and softening the area straight away.

What is great about this smoothie is that it doesn't take a lot to cover quite a large area. I found that a scoop matching the serving of a dessertspoon was enough to clean most of my body - meaning this tub lasted me longer than many of the others I have used over time.

Furthermore, this product left my skin feeling really clean and it worked wonders at preparing and repairing my skin during and after shaving. While I couldn't really detect much of a cooling sensation on my body afterwards, most likely because I have my baths and showers set on the scorching setting, my skin did feel really fresh and soft.
While it has been discontinued quite recently, I'm positive that it will appear in the Lush Kitchen at some point in the future, and when it does I will be sorely tempted to pick myself up a tub to rekindle my appreciation for it. As it stands, I happen to prefer the solid roulade version of this so I'm happy I can still appreciate the benefits without having to stretch a single tub for what could possibly be a year before it reappears.

Lush Cocktail: Turkish Delight

Gliitterati's 'Turkish Delight' Cocktail

Contains:

1/3 Floating Island Bath Melt (Or 1 Floating Island Bath Oil)

Video:

Verdict:

After a long day of slogging over school work, I needed a cocktail that was going to be comforting but uplifting at the same time. While I nearly always side with a citrusy bath to cheer me up, today was different, and instead I wanted something with a strong rose scent - this cocktail sounded perfect.

Turkish Delight is a simple name - not only playing homage to the shower smoothie that is recommended to be used alongside the bath, but also a reference to the delicious Turkish delicacy that this cocktail shares its scent with. Featuring four different but equally strong rose-oriented products, this bath guaranteed to give me the very experience I was craving.

Probably one of the most boring bubble bars to look at in the bath, Amandopondo more than makes up for it with its fragrance. Offering a sweet rose aroma with a lemon twist, this product is gorgeous - a fragrance begging to be made into a perfume.

After crumbling this under the running tap, the smell immediately engulfed the room - creating a thick, fluffy blanket of fragrant bubbles that looked incredibly inviting. While the water didn't alter much in the way of colour, there was a slight pearly effect that gave the tub a lovely glisten - the perfect start to any cocktail.

Up next I crumbled half a Rose Jam Bubbleroon in the same manner, which not only turned the water into a soft, pastel pink, but elevated the lemony goodness and added its own note of decadent rose - complimenting the Amandopondo while strengthening both the citrus and floral elements of the cocktail.

Next I chose to add in a Floating Island Bath Oil - an Oxford Street exclusive that has a wonderful vanilla and sandalwood aroma. You can opt to add in a third of a Floating Island Bath Melt instead if you choose, it really doesn't make that much of a difference.

The oils helped to soften the water and insert some much needed essential butters and oils into the cocktail, while also offering a gentle creamy aroma to compliment the rose without thwarting the key elements that make up the smell of this experience.

Finally I added in a Rose Queen Bath Bomb. This not only added beautiful decoration in the way of actual rose buds on the surface of the water, but painted the tub with a sea of thick, creamy, baby-pink suds that made the bath look a little bit prettier.

Once I had submerged myself under the water, I then topped up the rose experience by washing myself with some Turkish Delight Shower Smoothie - a product that I'm not a huge fan of but one worked really well in this situation. With the oils already in the water, the smoothie didn't dry my skin out and left me with a lovely, gentle floral aroma on my skin.

Overall, this cocktail not only cheered me up and offered something very different to what I'd normally opt for, but my skin felt radiant when I left the bath and I smelled of roses and lemons for a few hours after towelling myself down. This would make a really nice autumn cocktail - something to bridge the gap between the sweltering heat and bitter cold of the opposing seasons.

Turkish Delight Shower Smoothie

There's no nice way of saying this, but when I found out that Turkish Delight Shower Smoothie was being discontinued and replaced with the roulade version, I really didn't care in the slightest - the reformulated solid edition had already cemented itself as one of my least favourite Lush products to date, so why would the potted version be any different?

As it turns out, I was wrong to jump to conclusions so soon. While it was never going to be my favourite smoothie, it was definitely appreciated for the few months that it lived in my bathroom, and in hindsight I would have liked to have  been given the opportunity to purchase another tub or two to see me through the winter months.

While I have found every Lush smoothie to be slightly different in consistency from the next, this one is very similar to Creamed Almond And Coconut, albeit a little less silkier. If anything, I found Turkish Delight to be a little 'clumpy'. Although it was smooth and creamy and lathered across the skin like a dream, it had a slightly stodgy feel about it which reminded me of the consistency of some of Lush's buttercreams.
Made from a base of rose water and coconut oil, this shower smoothie has a very distinctive smell - one that although fairly light on the senses, is strong enough to make an impression on the skin and leave you smelling like a bunch of roses for a good hour after being used.

Despite the name, this product doesn't smell like the popular confectionary. Instead, it has a sort of sickly-sweet rose smell with a subtle hint of both cocoa butter and coconut, and a note of jasmine to finish it of and help expand the floral scent. At first I found the smell very off-putting - it reminded me of the milky note you find in the Hot Milk Bubble Bar or the generic smell of cheap soap. However, after a few uses I grew to appreciate that while it would never be a fragrance I would fall in love with, it was quite pleasant when smothered on your body.

As with all of Lush's shower smoothies, I found the most effective way to use it was to scoop it out of the tub and rub it all over the area that I wanted to clean. Acting very much like a whipped soap, Turkish Delight doesn't lather up - instead coating your skin with a creamy lather that gets to work at cleaning and softening the area.
On the one hand, smoothies are much better than blocks of soap as they're easier to store in-between uses and don't need a lot of stimulation to work effectively. However, as they don't foam up, I found that I used more product than I would have done if it had been a shower gel. Furthermore, there is no easy way for you to 'vet' how much you're using so it can be easy to get through a tub in just a few uses.

What was great about this shower smoothie was that it left my skin feeling really clean and it worked wonders at preparing and repairing my skin during and after shaving. Yet, as with some of Lush's other smoothies, this one was a little drying on my skin and I found that I would only use it when I was enjoying a bath as I didn't appreciate how my skin felt after using it in the shower.

While it has been discontinued quite recently, I'm positive that it will appear in the Lush Kitchen at some point in the future, and when it does I will be sorely tempted to pick myself up a tub or two to enjoy once more. As it stands, I will have to appreciate my favourite solid roulades until this is made possible.

Blueberry Shower Smoothie Roulade

As a kid, I did what a lot of my other friends have confessed to doing in that I would always 'save the best to last'. If I was eating my favourite meal, I would demolish the stew and leave the dumplings for as long as I could - allowing them enough time to soak up the gravy before savouring every last bite. If I was privilege enough to a few brand new books from my parents, I would always leave the one I most wanted to read until last - almost as a sort of reward for reading the other titles beforehand.

While on most occasions these acts are self-inflicted, there were times in the past and moments even to this day where things have turned out this way by accident. Such is the case with Blueberry Shower Smoothie Roulade.

While Lush have released shower smoothies before, they haven't released anything that quite looks or feels like this one. Presented as a long 'swiss roll', this product can be cut into smaller pieces in store - allowing customers to choose how much or how little they'd like at the time. While this is one of the more expensive ones, it lasts exceedingly long and offers a great alternative to a soap.

Containing a generous helping of fresh blueberries as the main ingredient, this stunning purple roulade sounded promising before I had even unwrapped my slice. With sandalwood and olibanum oil to boot, this shower smoothie not only offers a wonderful multi-layered fragrance, but one that is far more succulent than I was expecting it to be.
What is great about this smoothie is that it doesn't smell like any of the 'berry' scents that Lush have released to date. Although fans of The Comforter and Purple FUN will no doubt love this, it doesn't smell anything like either of these two products at all.

Instead, an initial sniff reveals an aroma that reminds me very much of good quality cordial - the sort of squash you'd find in your local health food shop that only contains fresh blueberries and a dash of sugar. It's a very tart, almost slightly bitter aroma - one that could be described as sweet but not in the same way as something like Creamy Candy would. It's a very natural smell - one that has a grassy element to it as well which comes across quite strong when it's mixed with water.

To use any one of Lush's new roulade smoothies, I would recommend that you either break off a small chunk and use this to clean yourself with, or cut a thin slice and use this flat piece to lather across your skin. While you could use a whole piece at once, this product is far softer than most of Lush's soaps and I can imagine a 100g chunk would disintegrate and shrink very quickly if exposed to water and left damp in between uses.

Blueberry Shower Smoothie lathers up wonderfully - producing a thick, silky-soft and very fragrant lather that moisturises and nourishes my skin almost instantaneously. I've found that I don't need to keep the piece I'm using under the water for very long as it's very generous and will last you a lot longer if you only use a small amount of water to stimulate the lather.

While this isn't a product that needs to be kept in the fridge, I would suggest that you store this in a air-tight container between uses. In its favour, a 100g chunk would last you a good month or so with daily use. However, it does tend to dry out over time and I found that it wasn't as enjoyable to use when some of the moisture had been lost.
Despite convincing myself that I probably wouldn't use any of Lush's smoothies on a regular basis, using this roulade has definitely changed my mind. This product works well at leaving you feeling soft, clean and smelling so naturally fresh and sweet. Although it can be seen as a rather expensive investment when compared to some of Lush's soaps, this is definitely one of the most unique and interesting scents to come from the company, and that alone is enough for me to invest regularly in a piece for my bathroom.

Quantitative Ingredients: Fresh Blueberries (Vaccinium myrtillus), Rapeseed Oil: Coconut Oil (Brassica napus;Cocos nuciferal), Glycerine, Water (Aqua), Soya Milk (Glycine soja), Organic Almond Oil (Prunus dulcis), Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao), Perfume, Olibanum Oil (Boswellia carterii), Osmanthus Absolute (Osmanthus fragrans), Sandalwood Oil (Santalum austro-caledonicum vieill), Sodium Chloride, EDTA, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Sodium Hydroxide, Farnesol, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool, Colour 17200.
