The Bearded Lady Bubble Bar

I cannot say that I was particularly knowledgable about this product before Lush re-released it in the Kitchen last week. While I had seen pictures of the bubble bar before, I had never read up on it's scent and didn't know what to expect when it arrived a few days later in the post.

The Bearded Lady Bubble Bar is similar in design to The Melting Snowman Bath Melt. It has a hard, white base about the same size as the bath melt - maybe a little thicker, with a red hat and two chocolate chip eyes. Unfortunately, unlike the aforementioned bath melt, I wouldn't exactly call this one 'cute'. If I'm honest, I find it a little creepy and almost feel sorry for it.

What is impressive, is that this bubble bar is packed full of so many butters and oils - it reads as one of the most moisturising bars I have come across. Cocoa butter, shea butter and oak milk make up the base of this - with coconut oil, jojoba and almond oil supporting these rich and nourishing ingredients. As if this wasn't enough, Lush have also packed this lady full of mashed banana and fresh avocado, although it's disappointing to find that neither of these latter ingredients can be detected in the overall aroma.

Having said this, for such a strange-looking bubble bar, it sure sounds amazing.
While all of these ingredients help to make Bearded Lady really conditioning in the tub, it is the inclusion of sandalwood, tangerine and lavender oil that give it it's scent. Described as a fruity/floral fragrance, I was surprised to find that my first few sniffs gave me a scent that wasn't far off Dream Cream; you can definitely detect the lavender as the dominant note. Underneath this is a very subtle woodiness from the sandalwood, with a gentle sprinkling of citrus to compliment the lavender. You can detect each of these three unique smells, but none of them are particularly dominant in the overall fragrance.

You can break this bubble bar in half and use it across two baths - crumbling it easily under the water to a generous helping of soft, creamy scented bubbles. The tub fills up very quickly, coating the surface with a thick layer of the bubbles. The water turns a shade of light red which is very warming and this stays prominent throughout your entire bath. While the bubbles don't last forever, I liked the fact that as they dispersed, a layer of rich soap suds remains behind - evidence of all of those oils and butters helping to condition your skin.

After relaxing in the bath for nearly an hour, I was excited to find that my skin felt amazing. The dry patches on the base of my feet were really smooth and seemed noticeably moisturised; my weathered hands were super-soft and looked visibly healed in places.

Although I was disappointed to find that very little of the scent remained on me once I had towelled myself down, the effects of The Bearded Lady lasted all day and into the night. For such a demented looking bubble bar, it sure does work wonders on your skin and would make a lovely accompaniment to any bath tub.
