Green Gold Soap

Almost four months after the initial opening of Lush Oxford Street and I am beginning to see the bottom of what started off as a seemingly endless pile of new products to try and review. Along the way I have met some unlikely favourites and have also come up against some disappointing results from items I didn't expect to dislike.

Green Gold is one of only a handful of exclusive soaps I had yet to write a review on - a product that I wasn't expecting to love, given that my experience of Lush soaps before the new range appeared was less than favourable. However, having fallen in love with a large percentage of the new soaps made available in the flagship store, I approached this one with a little more optimism, and discovered that it was actually pretty amazing.

Inspired by the Slush Fund project - an initiative that supports and promotes sustainable farming across multiple projects in a variety of countries, this soap features a variety of key ingredients - some of which come from the very projects that are funded by Slush to begin with.

A key ingredient featured in Green Gold is rosewood - an oil that is known for its citrusy and slightly woody aroma. In this particular soap, its presence not only helps to calm and balance the skin, but gives off a relaxing and very subtle natural woody aroma that helps to ground the overall zesty fragrance that it offers.

Lemongrass is easily the most potent component of this soap - giving off a very strong, yet not overly pungent fruity, zingy, grassy smell. To me, this ingredient gives this product a smell that sits in between Avoshower Shower Gel and Stepping Stone Foot Scrub. It's not as zesty as either of these, yet there is element of both present in the aroma, and I'm sure you'll agree with me if you ever get to try this out for yourself.

This soap is gorgeously refreshing and invigorating - one that not only offers an uplifting and very energising experience in the shower, but helps to leave your skin positively glowing afterwards as well. Furthermore, the golden lustre that decorates the outer shell of the soap bleeds out into the water and gives the shower water a little sparkle at times.

When in contact with water, Green Gold produces a light but very oily lather. It can be a little stubborn at first so I found it easier to massage it between the palms of my hands rather than rubbing it across a large surface area. Having said that, the soap also contains little shards of fresh lemongrass inside. This means that when you apply it across your skin, these pieces act as a sort of exfoliator - an extra bonus that makes me love this soap even more.

While this soap doesn't leave your skin feeling as moisturised as a shower gel would, it does leave it feeling throughly clean, clear and smooth. I loved how light and refreshed my body felt, and while I couldn't detect much of a fragrance left on my skin afterwards, my skin did feel really energised and radiant.

This is a wonderful addition to Lush's soap collection, and one that I will definitely be buying on a regular basis. I love the fact that I can use this to energise me in the warmer months, yet I can imagine this would work so well to stimulate those cold places in the winter months.

Not only this, but at £3.50 for 100g, this is one of Lush's cheaper products - not to mention the fact that my chunk has barely shrunk since I began using it two weeks ago, making it one of the sturdiest soaps available from the company. While Pumice Power is supposedly the replacement for Stepping Stone, I would put this soap above this and say it is a wonderful alternative.
