Lush Cocktail: Mermaid Cove

Verdict:

Sometimes you just have to look at a recipe to know that it's going to be incredible - such is the case with this cocktail. All of the products featured here are high-rated items in my mind, so the idea of adding them all into the same bath sounded like one of the best inventions ever. It was not disappointing.

Mermaid Cove is a cocktail for those who like something sweet and fruity - a strange concoction of different zesty smells that shouldn't really work but somehow does. After receiving a wonderful package featuring Christmas goodies from Australia's 'Lush In July' campaign, I couldn't think of a better way to use my fresh Golden Wonder, and I definitely made the right decision.

To begin with, I crumbled half of a Big Bang Bubble Bar under the running tap. This fan-favourite started out as an exclusive at Oxford Street and contains an impressive array of butters, oils and syrups to leave your skin feeling and smelling delicious.

With grapefruit, lemon myrtle and tangerine oil as key ingredients, Big Bang has a beautiful, zesty citrus aroma that isn't that far off smelling like both Speedboat FUN and Each Peach And Two's A Pair Massage Bar. This bubble bar also turned the water a beautiful shade of pastel blue and filled the tub with soft, fluffy bubbles.

As if we needed any more zest, I next crumbled half of a Sunnyside Bubble Bar under the running tap. The initial scent of this bar is a citrusy fragrance made up of wild orange and lemon oils. It's a sweet smell that is similar to lemon sorbet or sherbet. The sweet orange oil helps to soothe sensitive and overworked skin, acting as an anti-flammatory for broken and damaged skin, while the use of tangerine oil helps you to relax and can even help insomnia.

This bubble bar is quite intimidating to look at because it's very glittery, and it may put a lot of people off because of this. However, I can assure you that this product does not leave you or the tub messy - instead depositing glitter under the surface of the water where it swirls and pulsates during the experience.

Next I chose to add in my Golden Wonder BallisticDesigned to smell like an old Lush favourite, Snow Showers Shower Jelly, this ballistic contains a mixture of sweet orange oil, cognac oil and lime oil – a delicious citrusy concoction guaranteed to perk up anyone suffering from the winter blues.

What's even more impressive is what happens when you pop this sexy bath bomb in the water: Immediately, the ballistic starts to fizz on the surface, spewing out creamy white and yellow froth that dissipates slowly throughout the water. As you watch with excitement, the ballistic opens up and begins to produce swirls of beautiful vivid blue (and a little purple) froth that spreads quickly across the tub. This ballistic also contains edible gold lustre and soluble paper stars, which gives the bath a magical sparkle whilst leaving no sparkly bits left to clean out of your bath afterwards.

Big Blue was my second and last bath bomb to go into the tub - offering a tang of lemon, a hint of lavender and a dash of sea salt, which all help to produce a fresh scented bathing experience. The salt helps to remove dead skin cells, while the lemon oil clears the mind and gives the ballistic a sweet, citrusy scent. In addition, the lavender oil, which works as an cleanser, smoothens out your skin and leaves a slight floral element to the bath.

To top the experience off, Big Blue helps to deepen the vivid shade of green that the water is by this point. The added minerals help to cleanse and soften your skin leaving you feeling invigorated and renewed, and you'll find pieces of hidden beneath the depths to moisturise and nourish your skin whilst you're relaxing. These are easy to clean up afterwards so don't be put off adding this in.

Finally, I threw in a Lime Pastille Bath Oil for good measure. Containing a generous helping of lemon and lime oils, Lime Pastille has a wonderful citrus smell that reminds me of both a gentler version of the green Starburst sweet and Five O'Clock Whistle Shaving Smoothie. Fans of Calacas will no doubt love this, but that's not to say that these two fragrances are alike - instead, this bath oil is much more along the lines of Key Lime Lip Balm and Avocado Co-Wash Conditioner, albeit much subtler in scent than both of these.

Together, these five products create a powerhouse of a cocktail - one that is so moisturising on the skin that you'll reap the benefits for days afterwards. You'll really feel like a mermaid splashing about in these waters and I can guarantee that it won't be long after your first Mermaid Cove experience that you'll crave it again.

  1. Big Bang is no longer an Oxford St Exclusive. It's online and in most (or all) UK shops by now.
