Giant Rose Bombshell Bath Bomb

The concept of an extra large bath bomb is obviously a very novel (and rather clever) concept from Lush. While they strive to offer a wow factor with every one of their new releases, nothing makes the consumer get excited than a large ball of bicarbonate of soda to throw into their baths. 

Initially, I was rather reserved about the idea. Despite spending a great deal of money on Lush over the years, I still find it rather wasteful when I think about spending a tenner on a single use product. However, as I'm not allowing myself to buy anything from seasonal ranges that have come out already, this was the perfect excuse to enjoy a Rose Bombshell again, without breaking my rule.

Much like the normal sized one, this shares its scent with the Ro's Argan family, which probably boasts more products that any other fragrance collection from Lush. Yet, while both Rose Jam Shower Gel and this bath bomb are in the same family, the two are very different when it comes to smell: so much so that I almost regret stating that they're both under the same bracket.

Giant Rose Bombshell Bath Bomb has a strong and very powdery floral aroma - one dominated by a dry but naturally sweet rose fragrance. There is something rather 'classic' smelling about this one, and would probably suit those who like more mature smelling floral aromas. The inclusion of geranium also helps to elevate, pad out and expand the overall smell of the rose: making this one of the strongest bath bombs that Lush have produced in a long time.

While the aroma has slight elements of lemon as well, thanks to the inclusion of lemon oil, this note is more of an afterthought, and it really is the floral components that take centre stage here. If you're a fan of The Sparkler, this slightly stronger variation will tide you over until its reappearance and may even offer you something a little bit more beautiful in the tub.

Upon impact with the water, the bath bomb immediately begins to fizz - sending out waves of bright pink foam across the surface. As to be expected, the weight of this means that it wont bomb on the surface like a regular one would. Having said that, once the bath bomb had shrunk a little, I was able to get it stay floating while it fully dissolved.

As it bubbles and hisses, you begin to see the turquoise centre seeping though, and within seconds this colour creates a rich, rose-tinted tub full of water to bathe in. When Rose Bombshell has almost completely dissolved, the centre opens up and sends out a handful of yellow rose petals for a dramatic finish. Not only do these make a lovely addition to the experience but they don't cause any sort of mess in the water either, so those that are opposed to 'debris' littering their tubs can remove these with ease and not have to worry about the aftermath.

What is great about Giant Rose Bombshell is that the aroma is stronger than the normal sized bath bomb but not so much that it's overbearing. I was able to enjoy the fragrance throughout the entire time I was in the bath; it stayed on my skin for a good couple of hours after I had towelled myself down; and it lingered in the bathroom for a while afterwards. Yet, it wasn't so strong as to irritate my nose or make me wish that I'd cut it in half.

Furthermore, I found that my skin felt wonderful afterwards: I could really feel the softness between my fingers and around my face to know that the bath bomb had done a good job at moisturising my skin.

Ultimately, this is a bath bomb that I would only buy once: more because of the price than because it is not good at what it does. I can see why many Lush fans appreciated this release and I'm sure it will make an appearance in the future. While I don't want to Lush to bring out too many extra large versions of their bath bombs, I can always appreciate the merits that they offer as a novelty 'one off'.

Love Boat Bath Bomb

As I’ve said in previous reviews, my mother is unlucky in the fact that her skin doesn’t allow her to use most cosmetics at all - especially taking baths with any of Lush’s wonderful bath bombs and bubble bars. For this reason, I feel slightly disappointed when the company bring out their yearly collection for Mother’s Day and I can only talk about the products with my mum, as opposed to her experiencing them for herself.

Last year Lush brought Mum Bath Bomb for the first time, which was a beautiful bomb to look at but one that didn’t leave much of an impression in the water. Offering a sweet, fruity scent that reminded me very much of the Refresher candies you can get in the UK, the bath bomb offered powdery notes of both orange and lemon that lingered playfully on the senses but next to disappeared when placed in the water. 

This year’s Love Boat Bath Bomb is the new improved version - sharing the same scent as last year’s aforementioned release, as well Rose Lollypop Lip Balm. Not only does it look far more appealing and works better in the tub, but the scent is definitely a little more defined in this format. 

As I said above, the smell of this is a powdery, sherbet-like aroma - one that wouldn’t win any awards for its complexity, but one that is both light and youthful enough that it will brighten up your day, especially if you use this first thing in the morning.

This year’s design means that it is also more appealing whilst its dissolving - floating on the surface and sending out frothy waves of both blue and pink foam. Unfortunately, I found that both of the ones I tried seemed to be rather bottom-heavy, so the bath bomb ended up capsizing after a few minutes and spoiled the experience a little. The type of water in your area and how hot you like your baths will affect how your products work, so I might have just been unlucky in that sense.

Disappointingly, the scent of Love Boat did disperse quite a bit while I was in the tub. While it appeared stronger to begin with, I think the nature of this type of smell  means that it’s not one that will ever make a huge impression in the water. For this reason, the scent didn’t linger on my skin afterwards at all, and every product I used in the bath overpowered what little aroma that I was still able to detect throughout.

Again, the bath water left little to be desired: offering a very weak peachy colour that changed as soon as I can began using my other products. Having said that, I did really appreciate the layer of golden lustre that pulsated under the surface during the whole bath - it meant that the water had a pretty glisten throughout, without coating your skin with glitter afterwards.

Despite the above points, Love Boat proved to be a very moisturising bath bomb. The water appeared to take on thicker qualities once it had dissolved and I found that my skin felt really velvety-soft and nourished afterwards. In addition, the citrusy oils appeared to help elevate my mood whilst I was bathing (even though I wasn’t really able to smell anything) and I felt so much more relaxed after my experience.

Overall, he design is beautiful to look at and I’m really glad that Lush chose to bring this out for the consumer to enjoy. Design and smell-wise, this Bath Bomb ticks all of the boxes. The company just need to work on making the water a little more interesting and the fragrance a little stronger.

Whole Lotta Love Bubbleroon

Back in 2015, when I experienced my very first Valentine’s Day release, I remember how excited I was about all of the colours and designs that the seasonal range has to offer. While it’s not my favourite release by far, there is something about the deep reds, pinks and golds that make this the most visually stunning collection of the year. 

While not a brand new release, the originally-named Heart Throb Bubbleroon has definitely been updated - complete with a slightly bigger design and a different fragrance to boot. And while I will of course compare Whole Lotta Love with its older relative, both products have their merits for sure.

Sharing its scent with the popular Love scent family, this Valentine’s Day special combines bergamot, jasmine, lemongrass and rose together to create a strange but alluring combination of floral, green and fruity properties. As the key ingredient, the former component offers a spicy floral note with references to something slightly green-like and fruity at the same time. It is this ingredient in fact that people associate with the subtle cinnamon-like note that some consumers can detect in other Love-scented products. Personally, I couldn’t detect it anywhere near to the level that I can in Fizzbanger Bath Bomb. 

Alongside this, the jasmine and the rose absolute offer a strange collaboration of floral notes that shouldn’t really work - a predicament proven by the fact that I find my nose often questioning whether I actually like the scent or not. Finally, the inclusion of the lemongrass sandwiches the different elements together with a soured, citrus-like note that lifts the floral qualities a little whilst complimenting the green-like properties of the bergamot.

What is great about Whole Lotta Love is that firstly it can easily be broken into two pieces and used across multiple baths. Rather than having to chop the bubbleroon up into chunks, you can simply twist the two sides and it will break away with each. While I used the whole thing to begin with, I found that the fragrance and the colour were just as vivid and pronounced when I used it across two baths as well. In fact, the shade of deep red that this produces after you’ve crumbled this under the tap is so beautiful. 

Secondly, the inclusion of the shea butter, which is used to sandwich the pieces together make this such a nourishing experience for the skin. I found that the water was impressively silky and moisturised my skin to the point that I was still able to see and feel the results the day after I had bathed in the tub: no body lotion needed. 

Finally, the scent is strong enough that it will stay with you throughout the whole experience, and will also linger on your skin afterwards for a good couple of hours. For those who possess the Love Liquid Perfume, a spray of this once you’ve towelled yourself down is a must-do, and you’ll be feeling very beautiful for a long time afterwards. 

Although this is definitely not my favourite fragrance from Lush, I have a whole Lotta Love for the scent in this format. The colour: the design: the golden centre all make this a bubbleroon that you’ll want to use time and time again. This is definitely one that I would buy again.

Melt My Heart Massage Bar

As a newfound traveller, I've developed a new perspective on the worthiness of certain cosmetics, and how you have to adapt your routines to match the places you visit and the lifestyle you lead. Having spent the last four months in very hot places, I have come to realise that body lotions are not the most effective way of replenishing your skin. Not only are they rather sticky in humid heat, and make you feel like you need a shower directly after using one, but they also pose the threat of leaking across the minimal clothing you're living in for the next few weeks. 

While you need to think about storage when you're somewhere hot, massage bars are the perfect travelling companions: fitting in the smallest spaces of your luggage and offering an intense moisturising session for your parched skin, after a day on the beach.

When I first sniffed Melt My Heart Massage Bar, I knew that this one would be coming with me on my next adventure - that is if the bar lasts from all of the times I've already used it so far! While not a direct replica, this Valentine's Day special shares its scent with the Jungle family - offering a strange, alluring and rather unique fragrance unlike anything else you've tried before.

All of the Jungle range can be described as possessing a strange, slightly soured fruity smell, coupled with an almost pine-like aroma alongside this. There is also a woody element underneath with a gentle earthy twang that grounds the soured fruity note a little and gives this fragrance slightly green-like qualities as well.  

In all fairness, this is probably the hardest scent to describe from Lush and it's one you have to experience for yourself, to decide whether or not you like it. This smell is definitely an acquired taste, and I find that people either love it or hate it. As I am in the former catergory, I couldn't wait to try this out on my skin. 

Priced up at £4.95, this is one of the cheapest massage bars on offer, and the size of it makes it one of the better value ones as well. Although a little thinner than some of Lush's regular bars, this is two thirds of the price, and therefore one that is worth stocking up on if you feel it works well for you.

As with all of my massage bars, I tend to use this as an intense moisturising session once or twice a week. Using this every day would probably make your skin rather greasy, and it would prove far more expensive than a lotion if you were to use it in this way. 

Simply massage the bar across the skin - I tend to do so in a circular motion - and then use the palms of your hands to spread the oils and butters across the whole area. As the weather is warming up a little in the UK, I would not recommend that you hold this for too long as I found that it began to melt within seconds of contacting the heat from my body. Furthermore, massaging it between your hands and then applying it onto your skin yourself actually ensures that you don't use too much, thus extending the life of the product. 

As with most of Lush's massage bars, your skin is left slightly oily for a short time afterwards and I would recommend leaving it for 5-10 minutes before putting any clothes over the top. However, after this time your skin will look bright and radiant, and feel super nourished and supple. After using this a single time, I found that it completely eradicated some of the dry areas I had developed through peeling.

As to be expected, the scent lingers on your skin for a good hour or more after application, and the effects of the massage bar will last you through the entire day and into the night as well.  

While you can use this in the same manner as I did, you also have the option of giving or receiving a massage from/for someone you love, and I'm sure Melt My Heart would be even more magical if used in this way. As my partner is away travelling for the next few weeks, I have to resign to using this on myself - which isn't the most romantic of options, but certainly leaves my skin feeling good enough to celebrate.

Kiss Me Quick Washcard

Nowadays, Lush are keen to bring out as many different scented wash cards as they can possibly get away with. Easy to make and inventive at the same time, these first made an appearance at Oxford Street for their opening day, and have since been featured in nearly all of the seasonal ranges since then.

Working in the same way as soap does, these little cards are to be used in the shower - foaming up to create a lather that cleans your skin and leaves you smelling wonderful. While they act like a soap, the ingredients act more like a shower gel, so these cards are far less drying and much more appealing to me.

Kiss Me Quick was the name of the 29 High Street-scented wash card that came out during last year's Valentine's Day range. This year the name has remained the same but the design and the fragrance is different. While last year's definitely smelt better in my mind, this year's is still lovely, and the new design is far better this time around. 

Containing clove, mimosa and tonka, Kiss Me Quick is surprisingly a rather subtle smelling product. While you might expect the clove to be domineering here, you'll instead find a gentle and mildly spicy note that is really warming when used in the shower. Alongside this, the mimosa adds a delicate floral note while the vanilla absolute sweetens all three components and merges them altogether. 

While I would have liked the scent of this to be a little stronger, as I found that it didn't stick around on my skin afterwards at all, I did appreciate the gentle sweet nature of the fragrance, and how it strengthened when in contact with the heat of the water.

So why bother investing in a wash card to begin with?

Firstly, the size of this card means that this will slip easily into a purse or a side pocket of a bag/suitcase - making it a great travelling companion that wont weigh you down. Due to their format not allowing for any sort of spillages whatsoever, this solid rendition of a shower gel also guarantees to be leakage-free, and suitable to take on board a plane as part of your hand luggage.

Secondly, the lack of any active moisture means that the sheets are preservative free, which means that they should have a much longer shelf life, and are also able to be utilised much further when it finally does come into contact with water. Furthermore, they don't contribute to package waste in the slightest, making it far more environmentally friendly than their other shower counterparts. 

So in a sense, I do actually recognise their true worth as a product, and can honestly see the merit of using them in replacement of other liquid alternatives. However, I'm still not convinced that these could or will ever be able to rival the jelly and gel variations that Lush already do so well.


What is different about this wash card, when compared to previous renditions, is the fact that the base ingredient featured here is fresh apple pulp as opposed to melon. Known to contain antioxidants and vitamins that both nourish and refresh the skin, apples are naturally full of malic acid, which gently removes any dead skin build that may be causing your skin to appear dull and uneven, and adds radiance almost immediately.

Kiss Me Quick is again another novelty product for this year's Valentine's Day range, but that's not to say that it doesn't have its merits. Despite its size, it does produce a thick, creamy and very generous lather, so you need a very small piece if you wish to conserve it for as long as possible. Secondly, the wash card is rather moisturising on the skin as well, which is always a bonus for me.

Overall, this is not a product I feel like raving about or one I feel the need to stock up on. However, it was lovely to try something different than the naked shower creams I've been inundated with, and the scent was enjoyable while it lasted. A cute little release for fans to indulge in during the season of love.

Heart Of Enlightened Expectation Bubble Bar Melt

Sometimes it seems that the grass is the same on both sides of the field. You'll often find me complaining about the cold weather and how it affects my skin and leaves it parched and dry. Yet recently I've been complaining about all of the hot weather I've been experiencing abroad and how it too has affected my skin in a negative way. Ultimately, it seems as if I need to take more care of my skin, and one way that I can do this is by choosing cosmetics that nourish and moisturise my skin to the highest level possible.

Aside from being an absolute mouthful to say and remember, Heart Of Enlightened Expectation Bubble Bar Melt was exactly what I needed after a two week stint in the very humid country of Sri Lanka. While bubble bars are already known for their wonderful moisturising properties, the fact that this release was also part melt is another reason why it won my heart over almost straight away. 

Sharing its scent with the classic Two Hearts Beating As One range, this Valentine's Day special is simply stunning to look at, and smells equally as enticing. The orange base crumbles under the tap like a dream, producing a rich and very vibrant shade of colour in the bath tub; the golden-tinted white surface is packed full of oils and butters, and serves as a bath melt to make this one of the most moisturising experiences I have had in the bath this year.

Containing floral elements from geranium, jasmine, rose and ylang ylang, the smell of this is a very potent one - certainly not suitable for anyone who opposes heady scents in the slightest. To put it simply, this bubble bar engulfed my bathroom within minutes of me using it in the bath, and the fragrance lingered in my house for a good few hours afterwards. 

Jasmine is definitely the most dominant note in the fragrance here - offering a potent and rather sickly sweet floral aroma that wraps itself around you in the bath tub. It is the level of jasmine present that pertains the heady and very sultry floral aroma. The inclusion of bergamot adds a subtle grassiness to the smell, while also offering a very small dosage of fruitiness as well. 

Alongside this, the geranium and the rose absolute add a gentle, cloudy component - one that complements the jasmine but grounds it very slightly. The  latter of the two expands the smell of this bubble bar melt so that once you notice the rose absolute in the mix, it's very difficult to ignore the fact that it is there.

For those who loved the shower gel that came out in the Lush Kitchen last year,  or indeed the bath melt from last year's Valentine's day range, this limited edition works magically with the scent and is perhaps the best rendition of the fragrance so far. While all three products have distinctive similarities, I'd definitely say that this bubble bar melt is closer to the bath melt than the shower gel - as I feel that the floral element is a little stronger in this product whereas the shower gel is a little fruitier overall.

What was impressive was how softening the water was. As to be expected with some of Lush's more powerful bubble bars/bath melts, I could feel how silky-soft the water was within seconds of the bubble bar being crumbled under the running tap. Furthermore, I could see a thin layer of oils being formed whenever I dragged my fingers across the surface of the water, and my whole body felt instantly moisturised upon climbing into the tub. 

After towelling myself down, I could feel how replenished my skin felt and was able to see a radiance in the mirror that hadn't been there before. At the risk of showing off a little, the bubble bar melt really helped to compliment my new-found tan and left a wonderful, sweet floral smell on my skin. This fragrance stayed with me a long time afterwards and I was able to smell it on my sheets the next day. 

Given its size, I would suggest cutting Heart Of Enlightened Expectation in half and using it for two separate experiences. Alternatively, you could slice it into even smaller chunks and use it alongside a bath bomb to cocktail scents whilst still receiving a super moisturising experience overall.

This is yet another impeccable release from Lush this year, making their Valentine's Day selection one of the best I have seen in a good many years. This is definitely a bubble bar melt that I have to be in the mood for, and I would suggest it is best used in the morning or evening time to wake you up a little as opposed to using before bed. If I had the finances to purchase more, I definitely would.

As I was travelling nonstop since the beginning of this year, I had no time at all to read up on all of the new seasonal products that were coming out around that time. One of the biggest shocks that I faced when arriving home to all of my goodies, was the fact that there were so many soaps to comprehend with. It's hard to imagine Lush having the room to produce the regular soaps, let alone the three million (or so it seems) seasonal blocks that have come out since the beginning of January. 

While by far one of the most boring looking pieces of the lot, Tunnel Of Love Soap is easily one of the better smelling ones for sure. With a baby pink outer shell and a white heart threaded throughout each piece, it's not exactly the most original to look at, nor the most appealing if you were searching for something to buy a loved one. However, the wonderful smell will certainly bowl you over.

Supposedly sharing its scent with the limited edition Never Mind The Ballistics Bath Bomb that came out during the Christmas season, this soap does not have the usual predictable rose-scented fragrance that you might expect it to possess. Having said this, I wouldn't say that the scent of the soap is a direct replica of the bath bomb. In fact, I would even argue that the smell of this soap is far stronger and much more appealing.

To my nose, I get two different notes at the same time. On the one hand, the orange and lime oils amalgamate together and create a sweet, fruity note that has the slightest hint of 'green' alongside it. This creates a scent that is very playful and youthful and possesses what I would describe as being almost a sherbety element. Alongside this, the rose water base creates a sweet but slightly damp-like floral component. It is this note that I think grounds all of the smells together, and also creates a juxtaposition that makes the fragrance of this soap so unique. 

When compared to Never Mind The Ballistics, this is definitely far stronger and more interesting, and lasts far longer on the skin after you've used the soap. While the soap itself is slightly reserved during storage, the scent comes out a lot more through the heat of the shower, and it does linger on the skin for a short while after you've towelled yourself down. 

What was interesting about this soap was its consistency. Having done a little research, I discovered that Lush created this soap to act a little like a FUN Bar as well as a soap. This is why Tunnel Of Love is a little softer than most other soaps, and why it creates more of a thick, oily lather than a soft, frothy one.  Although it cannot be broken off into pieces like FUN, it was definitely far softer in the water. While other soaps tend to kill any bubbles that are present in the bath tub, and dry out the water a little, I was able to use this one without facing these issues at all. 

Being a soap still means that I didn't find it to be as moisturising as any of Lush's creams or gels. However, I was impressed to find that my skin felt soft and seemed to look slightly radiant after using this in the shower. In fact, I was so impressed with how my hands felt after my initial use, that I decided to use this primarily as a hand soap, and have found that it is one of the best Lush soaps to do the job.

On the positive side, this soap lasts a lifetime. I have been using my 100g block for a good three weeks now and it has barely altered in shape at all. Having said that, it is a little stubborn at producing enough lather to clean your whole body with and this is probably the reason why it hasn't shrunk all that much.

As with Tender Is The Night Naked Shower Cream, the release of Tunnel Of Love has only made me hope that more products with this scent will come out in the near future. This fragrance works far better in soap format than it does as a bath bomb, and I can only imagine how wonderful this smell would work as either a massage bar or a shower gel.
