I stated in the video I posted earlier this month about my slightly annoyance with lush regarding the exclusivity of some of their products. Although I am very fortunate to live in London, close to the Oxford Street store where I can get many of the limited-edition goodies that are not available elsewhere, I still feel as if the company bring out far too many products with very limited release. This point was proven even more so when earlier this month a bar of fun was released in the Oxford Street branch, and was probably on the shelves for a couple of hours at most.
Luckily, there are some super generous people in the world who go out of their way to help you. So I was fortunate enough to be sent one of the Witches Cauldron FUN Bars to try and review. With only 100 of these available, I am able to count my lucky stars that one of these is currently sitting on my counter.
Witches Cauldron FUN Bar is the first of its kind: a perfect stocking filler for someone who wants to give a versatile gift of Lush this Christmas. This gorgeous product sees the amalgamation of the fun bar and the bath bomb, as not only do you get yourself a FUN bar, albeit slightly smaller than the regular-sized ones on sale, you also get three miniature bath bombs to use alongside this. As a concept, this should have been available as a member of the seasonal range this year, as it is such a great way to introduce Lush to those unsuspecting newbies.
Sharing its scent with Lord Of Misrule, both the fun bar and the bath bombs are a great way to continue the Halloween spirit until the end of the year. While we already have Monsters & Aliens FUN, which has the same fragrance, this limited edition now offers a different yellow, black and purple design. I should warn you now that when using this, I would highly suggest that you use each colour separately. When mixing the three together, you end up with a rather disgusting looking grey lather, which isn't exactly the most attractive thing to be bathing with.
What was strange about the FUN bar, was that it was very slightly harder than any of the other regular bars I have tried. Yet, when you broke this apart, it also turned out to be fairly crumbly. It was an odd consistency to be fair, and not as squidgy as most of the other fun bars you can buy in shops. Although this could be because of the fact that I had to leave it sitting in the post office for two weeks, I don't have another one to compare it to. This is not to say that it wasn't completely functional, just that it felt different to any previous experiences I have had with FUN.
The three little bath bombs that came alongside the FUN bar weren’t exactly the most potent of fragrances to be fair. However, I was not expecting them to be. What they offer is a little extra that can be used in the water, to compliment your experience with Witches Cauldron, or they can used when the more creative ones amongst us decide to build objects with this fun, and want to use these bath bombs as props.
Ultimately, this exclusive set appears designed with children in mind - a product that will offer them lots of fun in an evening, or act as an exciting stocking filler that can be used later on that very day. My only concern with this is the fact that the scent may not be too appealing to younger children, so I guess that leaves the adults amongst us to indulge ourselves with this little beauty.
Scent-wise, this FUN bar is really strong and will last on your skin long after you have towelled yourself down. As you can also use the FUN as a replacement for shampoo, I can only imagine that the fragrance would be equally as potent on the hair. I will say though that the consistency of this particular bar begs to question whether it would work in the hair without leaving little pieces to brush out afterwards.
You can smell the wonderful patchouli oil, alongside the tonka absolute, which creates a thick and very warming sweet, spicy aroma. Paired with a tiny dash of black pepper, to add that peppery kick, and you have a perfect replica of the Lord Of Misrule scent.
What I will say about Witches Cauldron is that Lush need to evaluate putting the two different products together a little better in the packet. With no separation between the two, the FUN bar does tend to stick to the bath bomb closest, and over the space of a couple of weeks, the moisture affects the bombs a little. A simple cardboard disc in between the two would probably rectify most of these problems.
To use in the shower, you simply have to break off a little of the bar, add a little moisture and then massage across your skin. The FUN produces a colourful, soapy foam to wash with and is easy enough to use. Use too much however, and you’ll find large sticky chunks will be littering the floor of your shower, which then needs to be washed away with the water.
Overall, this is a really lovely product, and I’m really happy that I managed to grab a bar before they disappear for good. This is definitely something that Lush should bring out as a seasonal release, as it’s a great stocking filler, and will keep children entertained for a good couple of hours. The scent is spot on; the bar itself lathers up really well; and while the bath bombs aren’t the most impressive, they work well as a novelty, and smell rather lovely in the water.
